Zinc and Argenine for AGA and TE
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33878855/
Conclusions: Based on our results, the combination of arginine and zinc tested in our study could represent a good therapeutic option for the treatment of AGA and TE and it might represent a valid alternative to finasteride.

Zenagen Shampoo
I’d like to bring to your attention another product making wild claims – Zenagen Natural Hair Loss Shampoo
Presumably you have a similar attitude towards it to other similar products?
Oh boy. I’d say anything that bills itself as a “natural hair loss shampoo” already falls under my “buyer beware” list. But, let’s review the product’s site anyway…
The first thing my eyes were drawn to on the site is the big “1,000,000,000 hairs protected” graphic. I wonder how long it took them to count all billion. Then as I scrolled down the page, I noticed the lovely “As seen on Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune” graphic at the bottom. Often the only mention for products like these in major publications is in the form of a paid advertisement or reprinting of a press release. I’d love to see what the LA Times actually said about the product, if anything. I assume that if there was a real mention in those newspapers, there would be links to the articles (of which there are none). The photo results are equally laughable. Look at the “Results” page to see an example of a guy with a mostly-shaved head as the “before” and with his hair grown out as the “after”. You can clearly see he’s got a prominent and strong hairline in the both photos.
The makers offer zero proof and zero science to back up their statements, yet their site insists, “Based on science and research, the unique formula makes Zenagen shampoo the number one rated hair loss product“. It’s always the #1 rated products that nobody has ever heard of and offer no basis for their claims, right? Ha! Of course, you’re welcome to try the product for yourself, but until I can see a bit of proof of this shampoo’s efficacy, I’d say it’s not going to do much of what the maker claims it will. I am not impressed.
Zelnorm, Birth Control, Diet and Hair Loss in Teenage Female
i am 19 years old / female. when i was younger, in my middle teen years i had thick, thick hair, now its so thin. whenever i take a shower i lose so much hair its ridiculous. i’ve been using mousse for my hair for a long time. i started really using it when i was about 14-15 years old, but now i use it frequently in my hair but i never put in on my scalp. i always put it in the middle to the ends of my hair. i colored my hair once and that was when i was 15-16 yrs. old, and i’ve been smoking marijuana for about 2-3 years, but not every day. i also started two new pills, one is a birth control pill levora. i’ve been taking that for a year and the other the one is zelnorm. ive been taking that for 4 months now. my question is what could be the cause of this? my mother has noticed my hair loss, and i’m scared i could go bald at a young age. i’ve lost so much hair in the past year or two. could what i’m doing or taking be the cause or what????
Birth control pill could potentially cause hair loss. However, Zelnorm does not directly cause hair loss. Zelnorm is for (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) IBS with constipation symptoms. Patients with IBS may have a nutrient deficiency leading to hair loss, so a focus upon your diet may be appropriate. There are many causes for female hair loss. I recommend that you visit your physician for blood work to rule out anemia and hypothyroidism, which could also potentially cause hair loss. The general causes for hair loss are hypothyroidism, alopecia areata, androgenic alopecia, repeatedly over plucking, eyebrows lifting, trichotillomania, stress, chemotherapy, radiation, eczema, seborrhea, scleroderma, lupus, hormonal imbalance, psoriasis, parasites, fungal, autoimmune disorders, poor diet, poor nutrients, burn, trauma, leprosy, and drugs. The common medications which may cause hair loss are beta-blocker, coumadin, oral contraceptive pill, antibiotics and chemo-medications.
Genetic hair loss starts in some women as early as 17-19 years of age. You need a complete examination for miniaturization to make the diagnosis, one way or the other. Get a good hair doctor, as that is critical for you to have a better understanding of what is happening to you.

Youthful Hairlines
I am 34 and in the music business. Like the email from your model, I am in a position where I wish to look like I’m in my late 20 for a few more years-Its more business then vanity. My hair looks how it should for 34 (I am a type two), never the less, I wish to have the sides of the front filled in a bit (as well as the hariline reconstructed).
Everything I read implies that this is a bad idea, because my hairline will look too low when I am 45. If I brought my hairline back down to where it was 5 years ago, would it look stupid in 15 years?
Clearly, you understand this subject, so I will not repeat much of what I have said in previous blog entries. First, Bill Clinton has the same hairline today that he had when he was 12 years old. His hairline does not look weird to me. It just reflects a small number of Caucasians who keep their juvenile hairlines into adulthood. IF you are not balding and you’re examined throughout each area of your scalp, looking for miniaturization and none is found, then it is not unreasonable to assume that you would be in the 55% of the population that does not bald at all. Putting back the frontal hairline will just make you look like Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, actor Andy Garcia, and many others like them. They looked good with their low hairlines. On the other hand, if you should start to bald, a discussion with your doctor needs to lay out a worst case scenario for you to consider along with the statistical possibility that this might happen.
Your take on hair systems?
I was wondering if you have an opinion on hair systems, or if you ever recommend them to patients with advanced balding? I know that most people prefer to keep their natural hair, but I feel like people with very advanced balding (NW5+) would look much better if they just wore fake hair rather than try to stretch out their limited donor supply over their entire scalp. I’ve noticed that people who try to get a transplant as a nw6/7 almost inevitably have to choose between a sky-high hairline, a giant bald spot surrounded by a ring of hair, or just very thin hair all over.
Different strokes for different folks. Hair systems work and work well; however they are very expensive (see here: https://baldingblog.com/why-not-a-hair-system-instead-of-a-hair-transplant/) and once your on them, you are hooked on them because the attachment mechanisms cause permanent hair loss and makes the balding worse. Even from a cost perspective, a hair transplant is generally less expensive unless you are a Class 7 man. In that case, a hair system is like putting on a hat, but you have to wear it all of the time and over time they start to smell and fall apart, requiring washing and replacement frequently. Also, unless you can afford the best like Donald Trump has, your system may be detectable to almost everyone. Nobody likes that.

Your Assertion About Normal Hair Loss is Misleading and Quite Untrue
Dr. Rassman:
In one of your replies to a question about Scalpmed, you stated that it is “normal” to lose 100-150 hairs per day. While this may be true for people with NW 0, it certainly is not the case
for NW2+. I would imagine that daily hair loss is PROPORTIONAL to the amount of hair left on the head. Your assertion is misleading and quite untrue.Thank you
I’ve often said that a “normal” range of 100-150 hairs (sometimes even 200 hairs) are lost some days. While it is true that this is a generalization, the importance of a miniaturization (microscopic) examination of your scalp is all the more relevant if you believe you are losing more hair and not growing it back. For a man who lost 50% of his original hair, for example, the daily loss of hair will be half of the original daily cycling loss, reflecting the population of hairs that remain.
The one thing I stress most on this site is the importance of a miniaturization study and not just making assumptions based on the fixed number of falling hairs you may be seeing.

When I Was Young, I Used Braids on My Hair. What Is Wrong with Me (Photo)?
You have classic traction alopecia which resulted from the braids you had when you were a child. These pulled out your hair and only a hair transplant can fix this problem. A secondary diagnosis could be triangular alopecia, an inherited hair loss pattern in the location where you have lost your hair. A hair transplant is also the only solution for this.

Some Young Men with Hair Loss Often See Themselves Differently in the Mirror (Photo)
Body Dysmorphic Syndrome reflects people who have Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). These people think about their real or perceived flaws for hours each day. They can’t control their negative thoughts, and don’t believe people who say they look fine since they think of themselves as deformed. Their thoughts often cause severe emotional distress and interfere with their daily functioning. They may miss work or school, avoid social situations, and isolate themselves. They even hide from family and friends, because they fear others will notice their flaws. We see this all of the time in young men with hair loss, and internet forums are replete with these men who are reaching out for help from peers, often without much benefit. Suicide is a common consideration, and when I see this from young men on hair loss forums (which I actively participate in), I often reach out to them. Here are two courageous young men who came forward to speak about it on Reddit:
Balding is the only thing I truly hate about myself from tressless
Being Ugly from tressless
