My New Doctor Told Me To Stop Propecia — What a Huge Mistake! – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello,

I was on propecia for 2 years on and off. I changed to a new doctor he was surprised i had been taking propecia, my hair was really thick. So he said go off for a couple months and see what happens. Anyway, my its been about six months now. The hair is all still there but now it is incredibly thinnner. I am on propecia again, just half tablets because of sexual side effects. Can i expect the hair to thicken again? Or just be thankful for what is still there?

Im 26 years old.

Thanks

When you lose the benefits of Propecia and the hair benefits take steps backwards, restarting it may not get the hair back to where you were at. You will know in about 8 months. You need to have a good doctor create a Master Plan to help determine what is going to happen to you. Get your hair mapped out for miniaturization so that you can be prepared for the future of your hair loss status. Not all doctors are using their brains when it comes to Propecia. Perhaps it was just inexperience with the drug.

I Ordered 1mg Finasteride Online – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I ordered propecia from the canadian pharmacy and they sent me finasteride 1 mg tablets. The packaging on the back of the pills (they come in strips of 10) say they are from Pharma Corp Inc (PCI). Are they legit?

I did some searching and couldn’t find who is actually producing the pills sold by Pharma Corp, Inc. From what I can tell, PCI is just a distributor/wholesaler based in Florida.

Buy reputable drugs from a reputable place. That is your best assurance, although the black market has even substituted the real drugs like Propecia with fake ones. If you buy name brand Propecia, it is not unreasonable to think that you get what you pay for. Some generics are made by reputable companies, but if it is sold (even in Canada) in 1mg tablets, then they may not be legitimate, because a legitimate company would not violate the Merck patent on the 1mg dose of finasteride.

Human Growth Hormone and Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

i was wondering, although in my late 20’s, i had been given a prescription for Propecia (by Derm) and told maybe to include Rogaine (minoxidil 5%), for a bit thinning in the crown area, also can you believe getting a little grey, well since i am involved in athletics, i’ve seen you post that “growth hormone” may also cause hair loss (i take some supplements), is there a web-site with that info you can refer me or others about it? i’ve been searching, and all i see is “growth hormone” helps hair growth on scalp? here is one link i saw:

HumanGrowthHormone.com

thankyou for help

Most of the human growth hormone sites on the web mention hair loss as a side effect. I have even seen it in my practice. I would suggest that you research the subject more — Google is a good place to start. Your prescribing doctor is another good resource.

Hair Loss from Old Hair Gel?! – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

My hair started falling out diffusely almost 2 months ago. First the texture changed and now it is shedding everywhere. I have lost more than 3/4 of my hair. I noticed that a bottle of Paul Mitchell Hair Gel that I had been using was rancid and I was wondering if that could cause hair loss. I have had thyroid and blood tests and all were fine.

If you lost 3/4th of your hair, you should not be on the internet, but in a good dermatologist’s office. This is a real hair emergency! As for your question about hair gel, I’ve never heard of expired or old hair gel doing this.

Goodbye Combover, Hello Hair! (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I never imagined that hair could change my life, but it did. My wife tells me that my personality changed as I became happier every day and my hair grew longer and thicker. I find that I look at life differently. My combover, which I never thought of as an actual combover, is gone forever. When Dr. Rassman showed me my picture with that combover I was shocked that I ever styled my hair that way. I asked my wife about it and she was embarrassed that she did not tell me how foolish I looked, but she loves me for who I am, combover or no combover. She shares my joy almost as much as I do and I think that my attitude about life relates to seeing the real me in the mirror. The man in the mirror has returned for the first time in years. I can’t understand why other men don’t do it. Eight of my friends have already made arrangements to fly to the United States to get their hair back also.

This patient got rid of his incredibly obvious combover and became a man that has regained his self-esteem and youthful looks. He had one procedure of 2590 grafts with Dr. Jae Pak. Click the photos to enlarge.

Switched from Propecia to Generic Finasteride and Now My Hair Is Falling Out – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I used Propecia for about 5 years with great results. I had no more hair loss after I started using Propecia. About 7 months ago my doctor told me I should switch from Propecia to the generic Finasteride because it was the exact same thing only cheaper. Now, my hair is falling out in large amounts. Is the Finasteride not working for me or is there a transition period. Should I hurry up and go back on the Propecia.

I would want to know if you store the pills after you cut them (they may absorb water from the air) and if you cut more than one 5mg pill at a time (you should keep it to just the targeted number of 4 or 5 sections). There is no difference between the two drugs other than the strength. I would be curious to know if you are taking the 5mg finasteride or the 1mg finasteride. There are other countries that make 1mg finasteride, which is illegal in the U.S. due to patent infringement. Generic 1mg finasteride is still illegal or does not exist in the U.S.

You must be aware that there is a counterfeit market for generic finasteride, as there is for many drugs, and these fake pills may not really be what you think you are buying. That could explain the observation of hair loss from the generic.

Meridia (Sibutramine) and Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am a 36 year old female and have started noticing that my hair is thinning at my part mainly in the front. I have always had thick hair but now I can see my scalp through my hair in the front. It hasn’t gotten very bad, but I’m worried that it might. I have been taking Meridia for a couple of months and have lost about 10 pounds. Does Meridia cause hair loss or thinning?

MeridiaMeridia (sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate) is an orally administered medication for the treatment of obesity. Meridia acts through the central nervous system by blocking your appetite.

Hair loss is not one of the reported side effects of this medication, but some nutritional deficiencies can cause hair loss. You should see your doctor and discuss your weight loss program and nutritional balance.

Hair Loss After Getting IntraUterine Device (IUD) – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am a 23 year old woman and over the past couple of months my hair has become very very thin and I loss alot of it in the shower everyday. I know the hair loss is not due to having a child because my son is already two and I know it isn’t due to my health. I go to the gym anywhere between 3 and 5 days a week, I eat healthy and I even take daily vitamins. About six months ago I got off of the pill and 2 months ago I had a IUD put in. The only thing I could think of is the hair loss is either because I got off the pill or because I got an IUD. I need help. Should I get back on the pill?? Should I use rogaine for woman?? Please help me before I go bald!

Ask your doctor if the IUD has some hormone it is releasing and to do a complete medical work-up for hair loss on you as well. I did notice that Mirena intrauterine contraception releases a hormone (levonorgestrel) that can cause hair loss. I can not tell you what to do, because I would need to know the results of the medical work-up that I suggested you get. The question I would ask is what are you treating? It could be anything from low iron to genetics.

Ginkgo Biloba and Propecia – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I’m currently taking 1mg of Propecia daily, (i upped it from.5mg daily). Also taking 240 mg of Ginkgo Biloba a day. It seems like I’m shedding more in the frontal area, but I don’t know if it’s cause I’ve upped the dose and it’s working, or if the ginkgo biloba is counteracting it. Does ginkgo biloba have any effect on Propecia?

I doubt ginkgo biloba is causing hair loss or negatively interacting with Propecia (finasteride 1mg).

Constant Scalp Itching in the Crown – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Dr. Rassman,
I’ve scoured the sight and have not been able to find any relevant information to my question, thus i’m presnting it here. I’m a 24 year old male with early stages of MPB ( i wouldn’t even begin to try to give it a norwood classification) Though i plan on visiting you shortly, i was wondering if you’ve ever heard of anything like this: My scalp is constantly itching as if i have severe dandruff, but i have little to no dandruff at all. What makes this phenomenon all the more pecuiliar is that the itching is basically localized in the apex or crown of my head, primarily in the region that i’m experieincing the loss. Does this sound like anything unusual? Should i contact a dermatologist to receive more detailed information?

Thanx

When you visit your dermatologist, he/she can look at your scalp and determine if there is anything there. Some people say they get an itching sensation when they are losing hair, but there is no connection that I can make that link the two. Sorry!
