Yes, this is a known syndrome (actually called Pili trianguli et canaliculi) first discovered in the 1970’s that is caused by hair that has an abnormal protein in the hair shaft. It is genetic and relatively rare. The site you mentioned is a good reference, and you can find a little more at Wikipedia. I haven’t seen this in any of my patients, and I’ve read that spontaneous improvement can occur in later childhood.

Restoring a Frontal Cowlick? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

If we have collacks in the front of our hair, can a hair restoration physician imitate that when restoring hair?

Block Quote

I assume you mean a cowlick. I have restored these ‘licks’ a few times. Generally they are found in the juvenile hairline and fade into normal direction about 2/3rds of an inch from the highest crease on the furrowed brow. The decision to restore them is a decision between the doctor and the patient.

Heart Palpitations and Minoxidil – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

If minoxidil causes heart palpitations, would stopping it stop the heart palpitations, or would they persist for a while after stopping the drug?

Block Quote

Minoxidil can cause heart palpitations, but palpitations can occur even when people are not on minoxidil, and this may be a sign of a heart problem. If, after stopping the minoxidil, you continue to have these palpitations, see your doctor.

Recurring Seborrheic Dermatitis – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dr Rassman,

I often hear that Seborrheic Dermatitis does NOT cause permanent hair loss, and that any loss is temporary and usually regrows. However, I have been suffering from persistent recurrent SD now for 8 years, and a thick head of naturally curly hair has all but vanished. Indeed I now suffer from very diffuse hair loss.

My Doctor prescribes me Cocois Ointment but I find that when you rub it on the area of SD, then wash it off, that the hair previously present in that area becomes noticeably thinner. This has been the pattern for 8 years. repeating over and over like a vicious cycle until hair loss is severe.

You are providing a fantastic service via your site across the world, and I would be extremely grateful for your views and advice. Thank You.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) does not cause hair loss unless you scratch it. Sometimes the treatment may impact the hair. Cocois Coconut Oil Compound contains contains coal tar, salicylic acid, and precipitated sulphur. These types of treatments are usually used for advanced SD and psoriasis, but they are not as effective as steroids when they are judiciously applied under the care of a physician. You did report loss of hair or thinning of the hair from Cocois ointment, so maybe it’s time to review this treatment with your doctor.
