Would Getting Castrated Stop My MPB? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi i just want to thank you for reading my question, but i want to be taken seriously, and actually im talking seriously. my question is simple:

Does castration stop Male pattern baldness in men? I mean if you castrate yourself youre not going to lose your hair?

Please this is not a joke, I just wanna know the answer.

There was a report of twins where one was castrated at a mental hospital many, many years ago when castration was a treatment for certain mental disorders. The non-patient twin who was not castrated lost his hair, while the castrated twin did not. This story may allude to the thought that castration may prevent the onset of androgenic alopecia, but it is not clear if it would STOP androgenic alopecia (once it has started).

I would not know how one would establish the onset of androgenic alopecia in adulthood. It is my guess you would need to be castrated in childhood (before puberty), which leads me to wonder if eunuchs had issues with balding. They probably had other issues to worry about … or not worry about.

The short answer to your question — No, and I would not recommend trying to find out by castrating yourself.

NBA Star Carlos Boozer’s Painted Hair? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi Team,

Carlos Boozer, the NBA Bulls player, has been in the news for doing…something…to “restore” his hair. You can find a photo or two via google. Some people have commented it looks like he put on paint! I wonder if it might be a form of micropigmentation. Any thoughts?

Block Quote

BoozerI’m not familiar with him, but I did find this article which shows off what you’re talking about. It doesn’t impress me, whatever it was. I put a small version to the right…

I wish I could get to him and tell him that there is a simple solution to his problem: Scalp Micropigmentation. I would defy anyone to tell that the coverage of our SMP work is a tattoo or a painted on makeup. It is unfortunate that in my line of work, our best work will never go noticed.

Thanks to BaldingBlog, I Didn’t Give Up When a Dermatologist Didn’t Help Me – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I’d just like to thank you for this informative website. Because of your article on minaturization, I didn’t stop consulting doctors when a dermatologist just told me ‘your hair is fine’ after a cursory examination, and had my slight minaturization confirmed by a doctor on the ISHRS website.

I’m now on Propecia, and your articles on its safety have helped me to start taking it – when I might have been otherwise turned off because of the horror stories on the internet.

Hair Loss InformationI Stopped Taking Synthroid 2.5 Years Ago and I’m Still Having Female Hair Loss! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

About 3 years ago (current age 39, female), I began having menstrual irregularities (excessive bleeding). Tests didn’t show any distinct hormonal/structural reasons, but I was under extreme stress. One doctor suggested I try Synthroid to decrease my TSH (it was normal – 3.6 – but I didn’t know better). Within 2 months of being on 50mcg of Synthroid, I began losing MASSIVE amounts of hair on my head (and most of my body). I’d never had hair loss before – in fact, I had a LOT of hair.

I immediately informed my doctor of this but she said my body would adjust. After 6 months of continued hair loss (and no improvement with my health otherwise), I stopped taking Synthroid. That was in October 2010. But my hair loss has NEVER stopped since and when I once had so much hair, I now have very thin, brittle hair that falls out by the handful daily. The loss looks diffuse, but the most visible parts are my sides and the nape of my neck. I have been to numerous endocrinologist/dermatologists/hair specialists and no one knows why this is continuing. I am not on any medications, and all my hormones look fine. My menstruation has also gone back to normal – so I don’t understand? I’d appreciate any input!

My hair is less than 50% of its original thickness and the scalp can easily be seen through the front and sides of my hair under regular light. I cannot go out without using Toppik, but it can easily be seen as there is very little hair to hide the fact that I’m wearing a cover-up. My hair texture has also changed DRASTICALLY to dry, brittle, and cobweb thin in areas.

It is not unusual that when a thyroid condition is fixed and properly regulated, that the hair does not return to it per-disease state. I wish I had good news to tell you, but honestly, only time will tell if your hair will regrow. As to your continued loss, I don’t have a clue. With female hair loss, there are so many possible causes, that suggesting what it could be via the web with no examination would be a complete guessing game.

I realize you’ve been to numerous doctors, but I’m not sure what help I could offer at this point. There is a list of common blood tests here that could possibly lead to a reason for your loss. But TAKE CAUTION: these tests may point to a possible source but may NOT provide a treatment or a cure. You need to speak to a doctor and come up with a Master Plan to treat the hair loss. Lab tests do not mean anything if you cannot do anything about the results.

Can I Have a Hair Transplant Into a Scalp Scar I’ve Had Since I Was a Kid? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I have a large scar from a head surgery from when I was young. Hair does not grow there, and it looks very bad with my hairstyles.

I am currently 18. Would I be a good candidate for hair transplantation onto the scar, especially as regards to shock loss?

Block Quote

Maybe, but I can’t really say without an exam. You should see a hair transplant doctor for a better idea.

At NHI, we routinely perform surgeries to cover scalp scars as long as realistic expectations are understood. In other words, each case is different.

Hair Loss InformationIn the News – Wisdom Teeth Extraction Lead to Man’s Death – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Unrelated to hair loss, but this is a case of anesthesia possibly leading to the death of a man having his wisdom teeth pulled.

Snippet from the article:

Marek’s family provided Fox 5 with his medical records. The ambulance report by American Medical Response showed Marek was undergoing surgery when he began to cough.

“When he coughed they administered propofol and that’s when he went into cardiac arrest,” his mother, April Lapinski, said.

He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he died. The ambulance report also noted a piece of gauze was found in Marek’s airway.

There is absolutely no guarantees when a general anesthetic is used. Safety is paramount in all of the decisions we make when it comes to anesthesia. We use local anesthesia in our practice, which is probably the safest anesthetic available, but still there is risk of things like overdose, allergic reaction, infection, etc…

A couple of months ago, a man who was scheduled for a hair transplant cancelled his procedure for family reasons. The night of the scheduled surgery, he had a heart attack and almost died. Of course, I was concerned about his well being, but I could not help but connect the dots, for if he had his hair transplant that day, his heart attack would probably have happened anyway… but the connection to the hair transplant would have been a direct one-to-one connection.

A while ago, I read a medical article which studied outpatient surgery and the risks associated with it. There was no selection of patients with regard to age, general health, etc. The article studied a 30 day period after the surgery and reported a death rate of 1 in 20,000 patients. That means that in any surgery, any general anesthetic has risks. The above article does not reference the overall competency of the person administering propofol, but as we saw in the Michael Jackson case, expertise in the use of any medication is clearly a major factor when risks are considered.

As I have previously reported nearly six years ago, one patient in the US died from a hair transplant while it was being done. Supposedly it was under local anesthesia. All I know is that the surgeon lost his medical license as a result of the death.

Am I Regrowing Hair from Cialis? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

CialisDoes anyone know why I’ve also started to grow hair? I’ve started taking Cialis about 2 months ago with the once a week pills, it was giving me a major headache so i broke the pill into thirds and I’m talking a third every week or like every 4 days or so (headache is gone) and its great stuff, but my hair is starting to slightly grow back. Anyone know or is it a fluke?

Block Quote

Cialis (tadalafil) is generally taken for growth in the other head.

No, I am not familiar with any verified reports of hair growth from Cialis. We have had reports of hair loss from this drug, however, nothing is clear with regard to this. Have you talked to your doctor about your findings?

Snippet from the article:

Lillian White, a dental hygienist from Mendham, Mass., was only 11 when a genetic condition caused her hair to start falling out.

“I was just getting into puberty and that awkward phase and my hair started falling out,” said White, who is now 31. “It was terrible. At slumber parties, we would braid each other’s hair with friends and they would ask, ‘Why are your braids so tiny?’”

Hair Loss InformationClass 7 Patient with One Surgery of 3072 Grafts 10 Years Ago (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

This is a Norwood class 7 patient who loves the hair he had transplanted a decade ago in a single procedure of 3072 grafts. He is using a comb-back styling technique.

After seeing him again, we decided to do one more 3000 graft surgery to fill in the crown. His entire bald area is huge, so even the next surgery will not give him a full head of hair. The solution we came up with is that we’ll follow-up after the next procedure with Scalp Micropigmentation to thicken its appearance. That will make a huge difference and this patient is thrilled with the idea. I will post some updated photos in about 12 months from now to show the transition.

Cutting Multi-Hair Grafts Into Singles for Eyebrow Transplantation – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

My goal is to do the eyebrow transplant. I did some research and it said that it is difficult to separate the single hair from the multiple hair graft if your hair root is thick. So probably means big roots will be risky and causes the root to die and not grow in future.

My question is do i have to be concerned about the separating process of single hair or not because my hair root is quite big.

Block Quote

It has not been a problem in our hands. Careful microscopic dissection is critical to make sure that the area of the sebaceous glands are accurately dissected.

For those that aren’t familiar, follicular unit grafts used in transplantation contain 1, 2, 3, or 4 hairs each. With eyebrow transplants, these multi-hair grafts are split into single hairs. I generally like to find and use 1-hair grafts for the eyebrows.
