Hair Loss InformationIn the News – Did Gordon Ramsay Have FUE? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

He was famously spotted leaving a hair transplant clinic in Los Angeles in 2011. But Gordon Ramsay’s latest look has sparked fresh rumours that the no-nonsense celebrity chef has undergone follicular surgery.

The 47 year-old attended Victoria Beckham’s 40th birthday meal at The Arts Club in London’s Dover Street on Sunday sporting a brushed-forward fringe and seemingly shaved back and sides. The back of Ramsay’s head also looked to have been covered in some sort of camouflage substance, perhaps a fibrous spray to give the illusion of hair density.

Normally, Gordon’s blonde hair is worn with a spikey fringe, so the look is certainly a diversion from his standard style. Suspiciously, the line between his shaved hair and his longer growth isn’t blended, which will further raise suspicions.

We’ve posted about a possible 2011 hair transplant for chef Gordon Ramsay before, and the photos at the above link do appear that he’s trying to mask possible FUE scarring with some poorly blended camouflaging agent.

Perhaps he didn’t realize that his concealer didn’t look very good under certain lighting conditions, because the photos show some very obvious stuff smeared all over the shaven donor area at the back of his head.

Hair Loss InformationI’m Already Taking Propecia, So Doctors Can’t Determine My True Norwood Pattern – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello dr.rassman.
I am in my early 30’s and receding and losing hair in the front area of my scalp. I recently went to get a hair consultation done and they said I could end up a norwood 4 but they do not know because I am on propecia and there is no really way of telling what norwood pattern I will eventually end up at and when. Currently, I am a norwood 2.

If there is no way of knowing what my pattern will be and when my hair will stabilize or if it will at all, isn’t it pointless to go for a procedure before I fully stabilize because if I don’t, my native hairs will fall out and the transplant will look bad. For all I know, it can take 20 years before I stabilize and reach my pattern!

Block Quote

It really doesn’t have to be that complicated.

Most men show signs of thinning in a specific pattern by the time they are in the mid 20’s to 30’s. Taking Propecia would not affect it too much if you pay close attention and have good miniaturization measurements and bulk measurements.

Remember, Propecia does NOT completely stop hair loss. It slows it down. You will see a pattern if not in the first exam, but over the course of several months with interval measurements.

Is It Normal for Hairs to Have Varying Diameters? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello Sir and thank you for your blog.

I am an 18 year old male with thick dark hair and suffer from moderate hair loss with temple thinning. I have noticed not every hair on my head has the same diameter: they can vary quite dramatically with thick very dark strands and lighter thinner ones. Is this normal ?

Thank you very much for your answer

Block Quote

Yes, it’s normal. We all have varying diameters of hair as different hairs are in different phases of the hair growth cycle (anagen, catagen, and telogen).

If one area is much smaller in diameter (miniaturized) and it occurs in a specific pattern, we call it male pattern baldness.

In the News – Swimmer Lost Hair from Toxic Pool Water? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

A longtime swimming buff, lawyer Robert Prignoli typically hits the pool for two hours at a time, four days a week.

But a swim earlier this year in “toxic pool water” at the LA Fitness in Travis cost him more than some wrinkled skin, Prignoli alleges in a $5 million lawsuit.

“Poisoned” by a ”hazardous and toxic stew” of chemicals, Prignoli suffered “severe” hair loss, skin rashes, eye irritation, headaches and loss of taste and smell, for a time, contends his civil complaint.

I haven’t seen any studies that show high levels of chlorine in pool water cause hair loss, though there have been a couple previous cases (here, here) where that has been the suspected culprit.

Hair Loss InformationCan I Have Hair Transplanted from the Crown to Make a Juvenile Hairline? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear doctor,

So far I have read that transplanting back a juvenile hairline (from a mature, assuming the person is not balding) is a bad idea due to the risk that the patient may suffer from balding in the future, leaving a permanent transplanted section at the front, which would look ridiculous.

Could this not be avoided by transplanting hairs from the top of the head (rather than from the ‘permanent’ zone of the back/sides) to the front, so if that person does end up balding, those follicles will be equally affected by the DHT, and so will not remain permanent? What’s more, those transplanted follicles could therefore be treated by minoxidil and propecia if need be?

On the other hand, if the person doesn’t bald, they will retain the lower hairline. It seems like a win-win situation. I only ask because I think my hairline is maturing (it remains to be seen if it will become balding) and I want to maintain a straighter hairline because it looked much better on me and had better styling options.

Many thanks

Yes, you can technically take hair from the crown and put it in the hairline… but if you harvest from the crown, then you’ll have a potentially bald-looking crown. I wouldn’t recommend this being done.

For example, let’s say your genetics might just have crown loss in your future, in that case you would’ve had an unnecessary surgical procedure if those transplanted hairs start falling out with the rest of your crown hair. You must remember that Propecia doesn’t protect you from hair loss forever, as your genetics will eventually win out at some point down the road.

I think you need to understand the importance of a Master Plan, where the doctor and the patient plan out a specific plan on how to address the evolving balding process. If you plan it right, you don’t have to worry about the “ridiculous” look of a partial job.

Can Finasteride Stop Premature Ejaculation? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I read that taking finasteride can also cure premature ejaculation, seminal leakage and other urine related problem by reducing the size of our prostate. True? please guide.

Block Quote

Not true. There was a rat study I read which claimed that black tea extract could lower DHT and then there was another rat study that claimed brewed black tea could treat premature ejaculation. Someone must’ve drawn a line from those two studies to compare it to the effects of Propecia (finasteride), and I’m guessing that’s where this rumor got started.

I’ve not seen any studies in humans that show premature ejaculation can be cured by taking finasteride.

Hair Loss InformationIn the News – Australian Hair Loss Treatment Scam Still Ongoing Under a New Name – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

A Victorian charlatan who was banned from selling his miracle hair loss cures has lashed out at an A Current Affair crew after he was discovered selling similar products under a different name.

Hair industry professional Steve Sindris and his now defunct company Hair Science International was ordered by a Victorian Magistrates Court to pay a fine of $100,000 and banned from selling hair loss cures. He was also ordered by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to repay one of his customers the $3500 he charged for his dodgy solutions. Mr Sindris did not pay either and instead declared himself bankrupt.

When he was tracked down by A Current Affair, Mr Sindris was hocking the same wares but for a different company — The Hairloss Institute — which is tangled up in a complex international web of similar enterprises.

I Was Born with a Permanent Bald Spot (with Photo) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,
I was born with a permanent bald spot that will not regrow hair. I’m sorry that the photo is not high quality, it is near the back of my head to the side.

Was there a question for me? I don’t know why you have this bald spot, whether it was indeed from birth or perhaps a trauma to the scalp in your childhood that you don’t remember. But if there’s no hair that you remember growing there, I would agree that it is more than likely permanent.

If you can live with it, let it be. If you want to address it, please give my office a call at 800-NEW-HAIR. We can fix it with a limited hair transplant or Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP). As it is a smaller spot, SMP would likely work well to eliminate the contrast between skin and hair color (plus the results would be immediate, as it is not a surgical procedure).

In the News – Teen with Alopecia Universalis Raises Awareness By Becoming an Easter Egg – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

An alopecia sufferer has covered her head in confectionery in an effort to become a human Easter egg.

15-year-old Joelle Amery cooled her head with frozen peas before being covered with chocolate and hundreds and thousands. ‘I thought it was a fun thing to do for Easter’, she said.

While it might seem a slightly bizarre thing to do, the stunt is actually an effort to raise awareness of alopecia universalis, which affects 100,000 people in the UK.

We have treated this condition with Scalp MicroPigmentation. This is an easy cosmetic solution for men, as a man with alopecia universalis has no hair and looks like a person who shaved their head. This effect doesn’t work so much for women, as women will not usually go with the shaved head look.
