Hair Loss InformationMy Child Has A Weak Hair Line. Should I Be Concerned? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I noticed my son has a weak hairline at the temples. it’s hard to find information on the internet, but from what I gather, this could be his vellus hairs that will be replaced by terminal hairs at puberty.. Not sure if I’m being overly observant here, but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t an issue.

Hair lines are diverse and children’s hair line are no exception. Some babies are born without much hair and grow to have thick lush hair. Anything is possible and an overly observant parent may also be possible.

Follow up with your child’s pediatrician and express your concerns. There are other medical conditions that can impact hair as well. Please don’t let this last statement be a launching point for further Google search and a source for more confusion. The best advice is follow up with your doctor.

Hair Loss InformationCan I Skip Days On Propecia If I Take More On Other Days? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I have to serve in the army for 9 months and it’s not allowed in my country to take finastride.

I’ll be there 5 days a week for 9 months. So I though of changing from taking 1 mg of finastride daily to taking 5 mg of finastride 3 days (Thursday, friday and saturday) a week.

Will that do the trick?

The recommended dose of Propecia (finasteride) for the treatment of genetic male pattern balding is one (1mg) pill a day. This is because the medication only lasts in your blood stream for a few hours. You should just ask your army doctor for their recommendation. Since the finasteride ‘fixes’ to the tissues and that fixation lasts a week or so, altering the dose schedule as you suggest probably will not hurt you, but it is not the recommended dose, so our position should always stick to what we know and what is recommended.

Hair Loss InformationDoes Mesotherapy Halp Hair Loss? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Sir I have male pattern baldness. I m currently taking finisteride and applying minoxidil 5%. Sir what are your views on mesotherapy with dermaheal HL. Does it halts hairloss and stimulates regrowth?

There is no drug or treatment that “halts” hair loss. Male Pattern Balding (MPB) is a genetic trait. The only two medications that is approved or proven is Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine. Even these proven medications do not halt hair loss completely. In the end genes win out.

Hair Loss InformationCan I Add Dutasteride With My Existing Daily Finasteride? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Doctor Rassman, one last thing if you don’t mind, for someone like me who has been on finasteride for like 4 years with good results, im thinking of adding dutasteride 0.5mg to my regimen every other day, not because I want more hair because im happy with what I have its because I want to destroy dht even more, and who know I might get more benefits who knows. I know eliminating all of dht is not the answer but I just want to. there was a study where a man added dutasteride 0.5mg once a week to a finasteride regimen and got better benefits. is it redundant to take both? to be honest side affects are the least of my worries, as with finasteride I have experienced non at all. even if I dot get sexual side affects I don’t mind as my hair is more important LOL. that’s just me lol. When I asked my doctor he said if I want to get hair greedy to add rogaine, but I don’t like topicals at all and I rather add duatseride, he said no, to only take either finasteride or dutasteride. but he is a regular GP, not a hairloss expert like yourself. I read a lot of forums where people take both as well, not sure. can one medication offset the other if taken together. thank you so much, your awesome.

If every thing is working on finasteride, why risk new side effects by adding dutasteride?

Hair Loss InformationWhat Are Your Thoughts On Hair Line Lowering? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

My question concerns hairline lowering, i.e., juvenile hairline restoration surgery.

I have read that you rarely do this, and it often should not be considered. However, the blog posts where you talk about this seem to suggest that you have done it very occasionally. My question is, what makes someone a candidate?

I am very interested in maintaining my low youthful hairline. At 24 years of age going 25, I can see that my hairline is definitely maturing. Whether it will go beyond that I am not sure.

What age is the earliest an individual may become a candidate? Would you only lower a hairline if you were satisfied the person would not suffer further balding? How can you tell? Can the HairDX test assist in this?

I wouldn’t actually want it restoring 100% to the very lowest point. I can just see that the corners are moving, and so far the middle doesn’t look as though it will. In other words, the real problem is how the corners are rising in relation to the middle. I want to avoid the dreaded V shape hairline which, in my opinion, is not for everyone, and makes you look older.

Would it be possible at some point to slightly fill in the corners in order to maintain a straighter hairline? I use minoxidil and propecia but this has probably only slowed recession and will not reverse it.

I am not sure where you would read I rarely perform hair line lowering. It is rather a common request. Each and every patient and case is different and hair line lowering is a normal request for both men and women. After all, hair restoration surgery is an elective cosmetic surgery. If one wants to restore their juvenile hair line, it is their choice. In general I would not advise it for men because the real juvenile hairline is concave (female like) and the mature male hairline is convex, but if the individual has full maturity to understand the implication of their choices then the surgery is based on the mutual respect and understanding between patient and doctor.

The entire process of hair restoration is based on the Master Plan
If your doctor can assess that you will not have further significant hair loss and will have enough donor hair to accomplish your goals then a surgery may be an option.

Some choose the hair transplant/ grafting route. Some choose the direct surgical hair line lowering. Some choose a combination of both.

Example below is a hair line lowering surgery (Dr Aharonov) combined with a hair transplant/ grafting to the front and corners for a softer look.

Switching From Propecia To Proscar – I Want To Keep The Hair I Got – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Doctor I want to ask you a question. 29 years old, no smoking and no drinking at all, in good shape and eat very healthy , and for 3 and half years been on brand name propecia 1mg finasteride with incredible results and absolute no side affects at all. But brand name propecia is expensive as I spend 45 dollars per month. my doctor gave me a script for proscar and told me to cut the pills in pieces which will save money. But he said that I must cut properly so I don’t get fluctuations in dose and such. I am very obsessive and compulsive when it comes to my hair and I don’t want to take a low dose by cutting wrong etc. So anyways cutting the 5mg finasteride tablet in half which will be 2.5mg of finasteride is way easier than doing it in 4 or 5 pieces to make 1 mg finasteride. I have a pill splitter device at home and it can cut it in half no problem. I rather take the 2.5mg as its way easier to perform. my doctor told me to try it, and is ok with that route. I just want to know your opinion as if it can cause hair shedding all of a sudden? I don’t care at all about the side affect increase risk because I know I wont get them by taking 2.5 mg of finasteride which is only 1.5mg more than the traditional 1mg dose. I am not doing it to get more benefits because increasing dose is negligible to hair gain, but only to save money. my only concern is that will it cause a shift in hair shedding and ruin my hair status by taking 2.5 mg finasteride over the 1mg brand I take right now? from your experiences what are your thoughts on it? can it cause a dramatic change in the status quo of the hair?

Block Quote

Although finasteride 1 mg per day(Propecia) is the recommended dose, a slightly increased dose (cutting a Proscar 5mg in quarters to make it 1.25mg) will be as good as a 1mg dose per day. Even 2.5mg or 5mg should be of no issue with respect to the treatment for androgenic alopecia, other than a small increase in a possible side effect. To be clear, a higher dose does not equate to better hair growth. There are studies that show that even a lower dose 0.5mg finasteride is just as effective for hair.

My Hair Was Burned With a Relaxer and It Falls Out and Grows Back Every 3 Years – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I had my hair relaxed 9yrs ago and got a burn in the balding area. the burn healed but hair from that area started thinning. 3 yrs later it fell off then grew back again, thinner and on a larger area. 3yrs later same thing happened again. Last yr was another 3yrs later when it fell off again. i haven’t used hair relaxer on my head since 9yrs ago.my scalp hurts a lot on that area.what can i use to restore my scalp and get my hair back. Please please help

Block Quote

You seem to describe a cycle of 3 years where your hair thins and grows back. I have never heard about such cycle and I am not sure how it relates to the chemical relaxer from 9 years ago. Our hair does grow and fall out in cycles but it is not very predictable nor synchronous. Human scalp hair is constantly growing and falling asynchronously. We can lose 100-200 hairs a day but there are 100-200 new hairs growing elsewhere on the scalp at the same time. So this cycle should not be readily perceptible. On occasion some experience telogen effluvium where there is significant hair loss without any inciting cause. There is no treatment for telogen effluvium other than time, as hairs do grow back within a year.

Pain on your scalp is not normal and you should have it checked by your dermatologist.

Hair Loss InformationVarious Presentations Of Men With Widow’s Peaks – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Note: As aging starts, at any age in boys or girls above 5 years of age, as the hairline rises in the maturing process, it may leave behind a midline, pointed tuft of hair which is what we call the widow’s peak. If you draw a line from the tip of the widow’s peak across the upper forehead, you will see where these men or women’s child hairline was as its point always lies on the highest crease of the furrowed brow as ween in the first of our male examples.
