Results After 3365 Grafts Transplanted About 15 Years Ago (with Photos)
This patient came back to see me some years after he had his last transplant with NHI. He had 3365 grafts transplanted over two procedures in 1995 and 1998 (grafts placed throughout the frontal hairline and top of the scalp).
This patient visited the office recently to ask about some thickening in the area behind the transplants where he believed he is thinning. He has been on Propecia since the transplants were done, and although most of the hair has been held, the genetics has been persistent at taking some of his hair away.

I don’t know what the usual experience is for NW6+, or what the success rate is, or if my progress is going to just fade away one day soon, but as long as it keeps coming back im gonna keep doin what im doin. Has anyone else seen recovery from NW6+? are there limits to regrowth potential? I’m thinking in another 6-12 months if I can keep what I have or get a little more that I will consult a hair doctor and see what my options are as far as FUE/FUT to maybe get me back to a full short haircut. That may still be a pipe dream. Worst case I go back to buzzin.
Amazing results already in just 6 months so stay the course.

Restoring the Moustache
A few years ago i had some stiches places on my mustache area and it left a scar and now hair doesnt grow in the places that the stitches were placed.
I was wondering if you know of any product, surgury or any other possible solution that could allow hair to re-grow in the spots that the scar is or in other words where the stitches were placed?
Hair transplantation is an ideal procedure to address the scar on your mustache area. At NHI we have even done entire beard/chin areas and recently for a patient who wanted to grow a goatee.

what can you tell me about restoring pubic hair in a 70-year old female?
At NHI, we’ve transplant hair to the pubic area in many women for whatever reasons they have. In a society where most young women are trying to shave or wax or laser off their pubic hair, we see older women requesting pubic hair transplants, as hair in the public area may tend to disappear with age in some women. As such, we do about 3 to 5 cases a year.
The last patient we performed pubic hair transplants on was a 60+ year old lady. She just called me a few weeks ago saying that the hairs have grown in and she is very happy with the results.

Restoring Hair Is Impossible Unless it is Surgical!
Can hair really be restored? Most of the things i have read say its impossible unless its implants and that’s not certain to work? I also wish to now how much it would cost to treat. roughly? Due to not being well off. regards
Hair transplants will work for most, but each case is different and costs will vary depending on how much hair you need. You’re never going to be able to get 100% of your hair back. Medication like Propecia or minoxidil does work for many men, but again, each case is different — no two people will respond to medication exactly the same. Since you are asking about general costs, they can be from about $10/month for some medications (generics), to the $3,000-$10,000 range for surgery.

Restarting finasteride
I experienced further thinning one year on fin and stopped it. Im 32 years old NW1.5, should I give Fin a second chance risking 1 more year?
It’s not a good idea, assuming no side effects from finasteride, to stop it. That allows you to lose more hair. I tell everyone that finasteride is always working at the least to slow down the hair loss and at the best it may reverse it (common in men under 25). I would go back on finasteride and stick to it. You should be managed by a good hair doctor.

In this study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29855987), the women, aged 39, was taking 2.5mg of finasteride daily alongside her partner during the entire gestation period. The male baby was healthy with no deformities of the genitals.
I can’t put it together but I did note the article. The report from the patient indicated that the scrotum and its support structures develop in the male fetus at the end of the first term or beginning of the second term of pregnancy. In this study, the woman only took the finasteride for the first 5 weeks of her pregnancy but her partner appears to have continued using it. Cause an effect is difficult to impossible to pin down in this troubled man.
What about wanting to have a child while on finasteride, should we stop medication? And for how long?
I have to think about this. The half life of finasteride in the blood stream and extracellular fluids is about 6 hours which means it should be out of your fluids in a day or two at most. I also know that it stays in some tissues, possibly everywhere, so I really don’t know any science that informs me how to answer your question. When your partner gets pregnant, you can resume protected sex with no problems and that is absolutely safe.
Well that’s rather concerning. Along with your conclusion, I’m assuming this also means that if you are trying to conceive you should not be on finasteride/dutasteride. Would you agree with that, Dr. Rassman?

Isn’t it kind of far fetched to link such statistical ‘tail event’ to the use of finastride in this scenario? The causal link imposed could very well be due to total randomness.

I didn’t know this, and my wife is currently 25 weeks pregnant… we used a condom for the most part but I’m still terrified.
Statistically, the odds are in your favor and you should be fine. There are very few reports like the one brought forward by the man I referenced, but for all the men who read this going forward, they should engage in protected sex if they are on finasteride.
