Are these dermatologists or endocrinologists that talk about post-finasteride syndrime? My dermatologist said the same thing, but when I called local endocrinologists who treat these issues they all said they had many patients dealing with serious finasteride side effects and I should avoid the drug. Derms write year long prescriptions for this drug, and it’s very possible these side effects aren’t always reported back to the dermatologist when the medication is ceased. Have you asked endocrinologists?

There is some uncertainty on the existence of Past Finasteride Syndrome. I have never seen it in my practice after prescribing it well over 10,000 times. This experience has been shared by many of my colleagues. If a patient complains about reduced sexual function I either reduce the drug and have they try it or tell them, failing a reduction of the dose to work, to stop the medication. Since I am quick and responsive to my patients, I feel that this syndrome has not appeared in my practice.

Hello from France Doctor. Firstly, I’d like to tell you that I appreciate your work ethic. I’ve been studying many topics since I start about AGA, hair transplant, medication etc, focusing on studies, facts, expertise and science, since I started suspecting a beginning of thinning. Your work was a great help and always a pleasure to read. I have a few questions mostly about medication, but here is my case. I’ve been diagnosed with aga today -what I suspected 4 month ago. It’s barely noticeable since I have very long hair (10 inches) and it’s the beginning, but I suspected it because I always paid a huge attention to my hair. There is : a 0.2 inch recession on temples, and subtle thinning / density loss on the top, especially on the mid scalp and following the hair-parting.

I plan to use the Liposomal Finasteride gel from Parati, already have a prescription after asking it from my doctor. I’ve read that you were also prescribing it to your patient. The doctor I consulted was really “expeditive” and unfortunately not really open to the dialogue. Here are the questions :

** – What would be the most efficient concentration for the gel ? ** I was about to order it at 0,1% because 1mL means 1mg, but i’ve also read some case using it at 1% or even 2,5%. I’m lost about this point since i will apply it all on the top and not only on a small zone, so quantity and concentration are important.

** – What is your opinion about the systemic absorption ? ** I know the liposomal formulation is made to avoid it as much as possible, I’ve read the absorption is “18 times less than oral finasteride” but I’m curious about precise serum/scalp DHT reduction. I couldn’t find studies about the liposomal formulation, only about that “P-3074” solution which uses a different vehicle.

– What is your opinion on the efficiency time of that gel ? Could it be efficient “forever”, considering its power on scalp DHT ? Can we count on it for like 10 years or more, like many oral finasteride user ? Would it be different for a diffuse pattern user ?

This is a lot of question, excuse me if it bothers you. I plan to do the things right, and will testify my case and experience with the gel in a few months.

I generally recommend 0.1% Liposomal topical finasteride. In the past year, I have had two out of about 100 patient develop sexual side effects. If the gel works for you, you must stay on it for life otherwise you will lose all of the gains plus what you would have lost had you not taken it.

I keep coming across mixed answers online, so I thought it would be better to post here.

• If we are able to extract and culture to multiply follicles, could FUT scars be restored? Could the smaller FUE follicle based scars be restored too?

• I get that growth cycles of hair across the body are different, but if body hair has slower growth than head hair, what is the point of those procedures that transplant body hair to the face (beard) or other places?

• Does hair loss stop at some point? I get that older men retain what they have left, but couldn’t someone on finasteride just keep taking it to maintain until hair loss stops?

• Has anyone confirmed how it happens? I’ve noticed recession of the left side of my hairline with very mild on the right. My dad is bald, but no one else from his siblings or my mom’s siblings. My diet isn’t the best these days, and I noticed a bit of hair gone at once from the left hairline one day in July 2018. Before that, nothing. Since then, I notice the rest of recession after showering. I don’t use sulfate-containing shampoos as my hair gets really dry.

• My UK doctor (general practitioner) said he can’t prescribe me finasteride when I initially asked for it, as it was “blacklisted” on the NHS and that it won’t do much to help me. Should I just buy finasteride anyway? Dr. Fox Online Pharmacy was recommended to me before.

Forget hair follicle multiplication as there is nothing on the horizon other than a few scummy doctors offering it for $$. You are correct about body hair, it grows for only a period of no more than 8 months when it cycles another 8 months and disappears so it is not good for hair transplants. Hair loss is progressive though a man’s life, but it slows down usually at about 35. You can take after your fathers or mothers side of the family. The choice is your about taking finasteride, it works to slow, stop and sometimes reverse hair loss with a risk of sexual side effects at about 2-4%.

How many hours does it take for each SMP sessions and how many sessions will it take? I understand it is permanent ink and was wondering if it fades after time and would need additional touchups? What happens when my hair turns gray? Will I need additional touch ups at that time? How many additional treatments after graying would be recommended?

Yes, there are between 2-4 procedures over a time span of a few weeks (you work that schedule with us). A full head SMP takes between 20-30 hours and we like to see some spacing between the procedures so that if it is going to fade, we can adjust for the fading on the subsequent session. The cost is $7,000 for an entire head SMP and we generally cover it until you are happy with the results. If it fades more than most people, we will do extra work at no charge. Touch-up may occur after a year or so at a cost of $500/tough-up. Most of our patients have not come back for touch-ups. We use a variation of gray/black or gray/brown in the inks and if you turn gray, worst case years down the road (and the inks did not fade enough for you) you might want to color your hair. You can expect that the pigment will fade over long periods of time. The absolutely best way to know the answer to your questions about graying over time, is to come to our Open House and we usually have a patient with gray hair so that you can see the answer for yourself. This patient was 87 year old with SMP who had Toppik plastered on his head and he looked ghoulish. We just washed the hair and then did an SMP on his whole head (see attachment). A different man who is now dating again. Age does not mattern.

So basically what I learned is that people who don’t recover from sides after quitting fin are bound to get them regardless, propecia just accelerated the what will happen to them. Because of that how tf do I know if I’m getting ED or whatever in the future ? The doctor said that people who have low testosterone or diabeties have that chance but I have no idea if I have low t levels. I mean I have lots of body hair and some facial hair and I’m south Asian sooo

I don’t know if your doctor knows what he/she is talking about. There is no association between diabetes and PFS. I don’t believe that anyone knows what causes it, but I know that we don’t see it in our practices because we don’t maintain young men on finasteride who have ED, especially if it doesn’t respond to time and/or a reduced dosage.

I’m wanting to start taking fin but I have a couple of questions on my mind if you don’t mind answering. I have an inconsistent sleep schedule. Would there be much of an issue if my pill taking is not spot on 24 hours? If for example I take 1mg at 12pm and then the next day 1mg at 10am and the following day 1mg at 11am, would that be fine?

My other question is if side effects are obvious or do I need to be searching for them? I’m thinking a lot of the sides i’ve read about would be obvious so I don’t need to stress about looking for anything bad.

Finasteride can be taken anytime during the day. Just so you don’t forget to take it, I generally recommend that patients take it in the morning when they wake up. If you get the sexual side effects, you will know in many ways. First, you might lose interest in women, won’t get an erection in the morning if that is your usual routine or the erection you do get is not hard as it usually is. You will know if you have the side effects because men focus on their penis, often too much (according to some women) but that is our hormones telling us to procreate.

(1) I know it can take up to a year to see results and possible regrowth. In terms of shedding however, will I immediately begin to see less hairfall upon taking the drug? (2) I know side effects are rare, but if I do get any how long should I continue to use finasteride before I should stop? I’ve read that quite often side effects disappear through continued use of the drug. (3) Although finasteride effects beard growth and development, if I stop taking the drug will my beard develop as normal or will it be permanently damaged?

Answers to your questions.
1- I tell my patients to wait a full year to see real benefits but if you do not get a shed when you start the medication, you will see the hair loss slow down or stop in a month or two
2- If the sexual side effects hit you, wait a month or two to see if it goes away, you can cut the dose to one pill every other day which may help
3- Usually, when you stop finasteride, beard hair goes back to normal

Considering getting a H.T to fill in the front corners of my hairline better. This isn’t a question of if I should get it I just want some info on the healing side of things.

Say I get a H.T in late December, I’ll have enough vacation time to go away until February and not see anyone from my real life during that time. Once I am back in February, will I be able to wear a hat freely? Will the transplant be obvious if I am not wearing a hat or will it just look like it did before the transplant? Right now very few would see me as losing hair but I’ve lost enough in the corners to make it difficult to style it the way I like and would like to have a true nw1 I am just concerned with others noticing I had something done. A well done hair transplant can be done so that you don’t see it at anytime. You might have to take a few days off if you have FUE or if you are very bald. If it is just the corners, keep your hair long and use the long hair to cover anything that you think is detectable
