Young Man Will Rub Lard (Fat from Pig) onto the Scalp to See If He Will Grow More Hair (From Reddit)

I feel I must comment on your experiment. Yes, doctors do inject fat into the scalp, and yes, doctors do inject platelet rich plasm (PRP) into the scalp. But no, there is absolutely no evidence that either of these work to grow hair and applying it to your scalp will not get it inside of the scalp because the epidermis (a 1/2 mm thick and tough layer of the skin) protects the scalp largely from outside influences. So, although I wish you luck on your experiment, which I hope to see results here on Reddit in the future, I am not optimistic about it.

Before you start, get a baseline if you can with a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-and-what-its-value/) to see how you are doing over time. If you start off seeing a doctor who can build a Master Plan for you, you will be miles ahead in the years to come. Taking dutasteride to start makes no sense to me if you don’t know where you are starting from and this drug has lots of side effects, including sterility in some men (unable to have children).

Young man with stress and hair loss

Your history sounds like genetic hair loss but your photos do not support it. Blonde hair has very low color contrast with the skin so a blonde man can lose over 80% of his hair and often not show it because of the color contrast issue. If you can find a doctor with a HAIRCHECK instrument, you can find out with certainty if you are losing hair. Here are some examples if people similar to you: https://baldingblog.com/2017/01/10/value-haircheck-bulk-measurements-two-patients-seen-today/

Young Man with Progressive Thinning of His Scalp Hair

Heya doc, I was told to shoot you a message and get some advise. Thanks in advance 🙂 I’ve had recession for the past few years, but honestly, it’s been very slow and hasn’t bothered me that much – I kind of like it how it is, even. The last 6-12 months have been very stressful, with the end of a relationship and losing my job. Recently, I’ve noticed the top/front of my head is looking quite thin, but still only noticeable in harsher light, or if I’m looking closely. I felt it’s getting worse and more noticeable though. I was told this might be diffuse thinning? I’m not really sure what this means. Is it the same as MPB? It’s not like this at the back/side. I can’t see any short/new hairs coming through. I suspect its just MPB but im not sure if stress could have exacerbated it. I also had a habit of scratching/scraping my scalp while stressed.

I’ve ordered Finasteride and Minox. I should be starting them next week and going from there. My family history of baldness is alright. Most men have some balding at 40+, but no one has started balding at my age. I’m open to a transplant in a few years if I think it would benefit me. I was curious if I could have additional hairs transplanted in places where I would likely continue to lose hair down the line in order to preemptively fill them in?

Young men often slowly develop thinning that will eventually lead to some balding pattern. What I do in my practice is perform a HAIRCHECK instrument test to determine the amount of bulk hair loss that your photos do not show. This gives me an objective measurement before I start treatment as shown in this man: https://baldingblog.com/2017/09/15/follow-haircheck-test-5-years/

Young Man with Progressing Hair Loss Asking for Advice (From Reddit)

Thank you for your insightful and informative posts on Reddit. You are a beacon of light in what is otherwise sometimes a hell hole of a subreddit, and I really think they should just give you the keys to the kingdom! I wondered if I could seek your advice. I am based in Europe, so I am unfortunately unable to visit your clinic. I do not know who else I can directly contact and trust, though. I was given bad advice 3 years ago, and was told there “wasn’t really much you could do”. Three years later, and six months of Finasteride later, I am left wishing I had started taking this stuff when I was a NW1, not a NW4. Now that I know there are options, I am considering a hair transplant. I think I should take the plunge and buzz it off first though, so I can learn to accept myself. I understand from your posts that hair transplants at an early age are ill-advised and not in a patient’s best interests. I am now 23. My hair loss has progressed very slowly but surely since I was 18. What should I consider before exploring a hair transplant? Do I need to stay on Fin long enough to be sure that it has stopped my hair loss? Thank you for your counsel. I hardly even know the questions I should ask here, and I am not sure my family doctor will have the answers.

Finasteride is a great drug to either stop or slow down the hair loss in someone of your age. If you have progressed to a NW Class 4 now, you need to develop a Master Plan for your future. Get your donor density analyzed to see what you have for future hair transplants, and then you can make the proper plans. I would, of course, love to see you, but there are good doctors in Europe.

Young Male Model’s Hairline

I’m 22, a model who has just recently hit it big. The clients seem to love my look, but I worry that my hairline is receding and my hair seems thinner, just like my older brother’s hair. It hasn’t been a problem yet on the job, but the competition is intense and I want to stay on the top as long as possible. My brother uses a scalp coloring agent which seems to cover the thinning, but I don’t think that will work for me under the lights. What are my realistic options? I have been extremely busy and don’t have much time between bookings. Are hair transplants an option ?

As young men age, the normal hairline does rise about ½ inch in the front and about 1 – 1 ½ inches in the corners. I call this the mature male hairline. This is not what the advertisers want in their young male models. Like with male actors, low hairlines are a sign of virility and youth, and no one wants to get cast as an older man before their time. This patient’s hairline is a great example of the youthful look (Patient RA, after 7,147 grafts). I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with many daytime actors during their off-season hiatus, to put back their adolescent hairline and they, like you, were afraid of being replaced with a more youthful ‘would be’ competitor. The best thing for you to do is to use Propecia and possibly consider Rogaine as well if you are really balding. A good evaluation by a competent doctor is an important first step. I would strongly suggest that you make an appointment to see me in my Los Angeles office. Having worked with so many actors and others in the public eye, I understand the sense of urgency, since your earning capacity can be affected.

Young Girl with Hair Loss

I’m 15 and I have all the same problems. My hair has been thick all my life, up until this year. I have lost a significant amount of hair, and it is noticeable when I look back at pictures. It has been falling out in large clumps when I shower, brush, or straighten it (which I don’t do very often due to damage). I went to the doctor and he says it is normal and that it will pass, but I feel like it won’t stop. I use castor oil on my roots. I feel like I take very good care of my hair because my mom is a hair dresser and she has taught me about hair care. So, I don’t know what is wrong.

If you are not happy with the doctor you visited, see another doctor. There is no reason to live like this.
