There are many factors that could produce this type of result including the presence of diseases of the scalp, DUPA. or bad techniques of the surgical team. Clearly, you must do your homework before undergoing any type of hair transplant

One Step Closer To Stem Cells and Generating New Hair
Dr. Rassman, you probably already saw this, but I thought it was pretty interesting:
“In a new study, Sanford-Burnham researchers have used human pluripotent stem cells to generate new hair. The study represents the first step toward the development of a cell-based treatment for people with hair loss. – See more HERE”
It seems like a great step forward in generating new hair from stem cells.
This is terrific research showing the hair can be grown from stem cells. This has been done before and when it was transplanted as shown in the photograph, the hair grew in all direction and eventually killed the mice from infected ingrown hairs. It is no small challenge to get all of the hair lined up at the top of the dermis so that they break through the epidermis just as a new hair grows in when it comes out of telogen (sleep phase) and into anagen (growth phase). The challenge in front of this breakthrough is no small chore, but from the economics shown in the article, the reward for any company solving the mystery might make that company very rich!
Let’s hope the research can branch further into a clinical model in humans. If you’re wondering how long this may be… I don’t know.

One Side of My Hairline is Receding More Than the Other! (with Photos)
hey doctor. I’m just wondering if I have a mature hairline or is it more? my hairline has certainly changed from when I was 18. also I cannot understand why one side seems to be receding more than the other and has been for years! I have naturally thin hair.
I have attached a picture that tracks my right side for over 2 years. a recent picture with my hair wet and also with a styling product in and then the left side which does not seem to change. you can use this for you site if you like.

Some men do not bald symmetrically, and in your case, that seems to be what is happening. The left side appears to be a mature hairline and the right side appears to be beyond just the mature stage. Propecia is a good drug to help slow down the process, though I wouldn’t expect regrowth there necessarily.
Since you indicated that you’re in the UK, I would suggest visiting a specialist like Dr. Bessam Farjo with offices in London and Manchester, so you can get an expert opinion on your hair loss situation.

Male pattern balding with recession is often asymmetrical. The side that is behind will often catch up with the more receded side.
One Propecia in the Morning, One Propecia at Night?
Dear Dr. Rassman,
I know there is no standardized evidence to say one way or another, but in your opinion is 2 mg of Propecia (1 mg taken in the morning, 1 mg taken at night) more effective at preventing hairloss than 1 mg Propecia?
The reason I ask is I have been taking 2 mg Propecia daily for almost 3 years now, and have started to experience “clumpy” semen and painful ejaculation. I am thinking this is due to a side effect of Propecia. I am kind of in a dilemma now because I don’t know if my fight against hairloss will be affected by cutting down the Propecia to 1 mg or altogether. I am 26 yrs old and single so hair is very important to me.

I would reduce the dose of Propecia to 1mg taken in the mornings. The higher the dose, the more side effects you are likely to see. The 1mg dose has been shown to be just as effective as higher doses in the formal studies of drug dosing done by the manufacturer. I recently saw a patient with a similar complaint, and he halved the dose and the side effects went away. He was taking 1mg and reduced it to half a pill of Propecia, which has been reported to be about 80% as effective (0.5mg vs 1mg). In your case, you’re taking too much of the medication to begin with. 1mg a day is fine.

One Month on Finasteride and No Side Effect and I See More Hair. Is This Normal?
At one month, many people will see that the hair loss has stopped, and that alone may show improvement. Most people (about 95%+) will see no side effect, so that is not unusual.
