My Hair Stopped Growing 4 Months After My Transplant

It’s exactly 6 months since my hair transplant. I have plenty of hair that came through at month 4 but it hasn’t changed for 2 months! It’s the same weak, whispy hair that looks awful. I was hoping the transplanted hairs would match my forelock but no luck.

Why is it taking so long?

Maybe it was a bad hair transplant. Maybe you still have have to wait 6 more months. I do not know. You may see results as early as 2 months and as late as 18 months. In general, it takes 6-10 months to see results from a hair transplant.

You also must consider that you may be losing your non-transplanted hair in the area where the transplant was done as a natural progression of balding (which has nothing to do with surgery). You will learn much over the next couple of months. In the meantime, you should follow up with your doctor.

My Hair Started Turning White at 20 Years Old!

I am male at 24 age. My hair have started whitening since i was 20. Now i have nearly over a hundred white hair. How can i handle this. Is there any proven drug that fix this. Some people say that eating onion twice a day, hair become black. Is there any proof. Additional info i have used finasteride for five years. It stops loosing my hair. thnx for this site.

White hair is a genetic trait. You can dye it if you don’t like it, but there’s no pill for it (yet). Eating two onions a day won’t turn your hair black, but it will make your breath horrible.

My Hair Started Thinning After Ending a Relationship

I went through quite a difficult and traumatic break up about a year ago. Since then I have got over it but a few months ago I noticed a lot of hair shedding. Could the two be connected? The hair shedding seems to have stablised but I am noticably thinner across the top of my head – the crown area and forward, but no receding or thinning at the front. I am 33 – is it likely to just be male pattern baldness? Or am I clutching at straws thinking it might be the stress?

The break-up and your hair loss could be related, as stress-related hair loss can occur from emotional causes. Or it could be coincidence, with this being the start of genetic hair loss.

You should see a doctor for a diagnosis and make sure that he maps out your scalp for signs of balding (miniaturization).

My Hair Regrows When I Leave the US — Hair Loss Returns When I Am in the US

I am in US for last 10 yrs. My hair is thinning along the center partition on top of my head. This happened since I have been living in US. When I went to my country for an year two years back, I felt my hair regrowing and getting better. Please suggest the cause and treatment for this. also I feel some scalp pain all along the portion where I am experiencing the hair thinning.

Environmental factors can accelerate the hair loss. Your case is rather unusual and interesting. Stress can activate or accelerate hair loss/thinning. Ask yourself if living in America is more stressful. Diet is another important variable that is different in different countries. Lack of certain elements in your diet can cause hair loss, but that would take an extensive analysis to understand what you are eating in and out of the US and how they compare. There are also certain food ingredients in certain geographic areas that may help hair growth (maybe you have some cure to hair loss from your native country in the foods you eat there). Look back and see what you have done and eaten during the time you have been away that affected your hair loss and you may reverse-engineer it and come up with a new solution that we can all talk about.

My Hair Loss Stops and Regrows Whenever I’m Pregnant

I am a 48 year-old mother of four who has all-over gradual hair thinning that began when I began menstruating at 12. I recently went through menopause, and although I have not experienced any chance in thinning since then, I do remember that when I was pregnant, I did not have hair loss, and my hair grew in again to a normal thickness. Each time, over the course of the pregnancy, the hair would grow thicker, until about three months after the baby was born, at which time it would fall out rapidly (over a few weeks). Is it possible that that regrowth during pregnancy indicates that I have some underlying hormonal issue?

I do not have hursitism, and twice in my life I have been checked for low iron and for thyroid problems, neither of which showed any problem. My periods were severe early in life but became easier over time and were roughly regular. The hairs that do grow are very soft and somewhat easily damaged but not severely.

I would be interested to know if you think some underlying hormonal problem could be the cause, given the regrowth during pregnancy.

Many women lose hair with child birth/pregnancy, menopause, etc. It is well described and known and you are not alone! But the hair growth during pregnancy, isn’t something I’m familiar with. I can only assume along with you that it is hormonally related, as there are a number of hormone increases during pregnancy.

My Hair Loss Stopped When I Stopped Taking Lexapro!

I recently went through about 4-5 months of hair loss. I stopped taking Lexapro and it stopped falling out completely within 6 weeks or so. Do you believe this hair loss is permanent? Do you have any advice on what to use to promote hair growth? I hope this medication did not actually damage the follicles and I will have spots forever. I am worried. Thank you for responding.

LexaproIn medicine, as in life, things are not so clear cut. I cannot say for sure if your hair loss was due to a medication such as Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate), but there are reports of hair loss with this medication. In fact, I’ve written about it in the past. So if it is the Lexapro, I would expect that this loss is temporary and you’ll need to wait with great patience for regrowth to occur. There may be other factors involved, though. This is something you need to explore with your physician and have a medical work up and a good history of events.

My Hair Loss Stopped During Prenancy

Hi,
I just turned 25 and I have been dealing with hair loss for the past 7 years. I have been to many doctors for help, but it seems that no one has the answer. I have been tested 3 times for my thyroid and tested once for my female hormones, and everything came back fine. I have been using rogaine for about 1 year now but my hair is still falling out. I have had two children and during both pregancies the hair loss would completely stop, but within a few weeks after giving birth the hair loss would come back even worse then before. I have been told that my hair loss is do to child birth and it will go away in 6-12 months, well here it is years later and it still has not stopped. I don’t know that else to do or where else to go, can you please help me?

Clearly the hormone changes with your pregnancy stops the hair loss. This is good. Your history indicates that after the pregnancy, you return to the hair loss problems you have always had. Not much to add and I would expect more of the same. What does your dermatologist say about your problem?

My Hair Loss Stopped After I Moved to a Warmer Climate

Dear Doc
Mine seems to be a unique case as I have not found answers anywhere. Though I have seen many people with my condition.

I lived around 4 years in UK; where I used to shed a lot of hair. I do not shed hair anymore after migrating to a warmer climate.

Now I am left with a diffused patch on the top of my head. It is very unlike a male-pattern case. Before UK; I used to notice a little thinning. But now it is very prominent as my scalp reflects light from the top of my head. All other areas; including hairline have very thick hair. If I part my hair in the middle, the thinning top of my head is very clear.

If you wish I can send you some pictures. But my description sums it up. Any idea why some people have this form of hairloss? Thanks in advance.

It may just be coincidence or less stress in your life. Otherwise, you would see more bald men in the northern/southern poles and less in the equator. Clearly this is not the case. I can give you no medical explanation for this.

My Hair Loss Starts When I’m Stressed and Reverses When My Stress is Controlled

I saw Dr. Bessam Farjo in the UK, and I was told i had stress related hair loss. A test was done and lactic acid damage identified. The hair loss reversed completely when my situation improved, and started again when the stress/paranoia got worse. No med helps long term. I have chronic tinnitus, and associated problems as a result.. so thats the reason for it all.

BTW took finasteride 5 mg/day, and now I have penile fibrosis/curvature. Any Ideas? hair on last legs. Thanks.

I’m not sure what you’re asking me, exactly. You saw a good doctor in your area that told you how your loss was related to stress. So you’ve already identified that stress causes your hair loss, and controlling the stress causes the hair to regrow.

As for you taking 5mg of finasteride per day, I don’t know why you’d be taking that much unless you have prostate issues. That’s 5 times the dose for treating hair loss — and if your loss is indeed from stress, you probably didn’t need finasteride at all. Did you talk to your prescribing doctor about this? Did you diagnose this penile fibrosis yourself?

There’s so much I don’t know about your case. For example, I don’t know how long you took the medication, why you took the medication, your age, your medical history, any possible disease (example – Peyronie’s disease), etc, etc. So no… unfortunately, I don’t have any ideas I can offer.

My Hair Loss Started Suddenly at Age 62!

I’m a healthy 62 yr old caucasion male. Throughout my life time I have enjoyed a full head of hair. Over the past month to two months, I have noticed significant hair loss in the front of my leading to baldness. I am concern for the abruptness that I started losing my hair. Is this unusal to happen at my age? I’ve been taking blood pressure medicine for the past several years as well as tamulosin and cholesterol medicine. I do not abuse drugs or alcohol. Genetic hair loss can start at any age, but as you suggested, this is unusual. If your medications have been the same medications you have always taken, then it is unlikely that they caused the recent thinning.

You should have your scalp mapped out for miniaturization to determine if you are miniaturizing hair and will progress with the balding process. I know if it were me, that I would want to know why I had it and where it is going, but that would best be determined by a visit to a focused doctor in the field.
