Hey! I’m (just turning) 20 years old and after lots of deliberation, have decided to start using finasteride. However for my own ease and peace of mind, I’ve decided I want to start by tapering up on finasteride, and track my progress to find the minimum DHT block necessary to maintain my hair (my recession isn’t objectively that bad, but I’ve recently started receding and thinning again, so I want to maintain it here). I’ve noticed that there are more than a few people who’ve decided to dissolve finasteride in alcohol but I’d like to know if there’s any disadvantage to grinding finasteride into fine powder and using empty gelatin capsules to store them and take them?
That makes no sense. If you want to gradually increase the dose, you can start off taking one pill a week, then increase it to two, then three, then four until you get to one a day. To see value, finasteride takes almost a year for 80% of the results to show up. Doing what you are suggesting may make the medication have no value.

The following is from a Reddit post. The graph is very interesting. I asked for the references from the poster for scientific clarity:
BACKGROUND: Many of you will be familiar with this old graph showing DHT inhibition from various microdoses of finasteride. You may even be using that data to help you choose which microdose of finasteride to take in an attempt at minimizing the chance of side effects. Turns out it was derived from the study: “Clinical dose ranging studies with finasteride, a type 2 5cz-reductase inhibitor, in men with male pattern hair loss”. However, as far as I can see, the graph isn’t actually displayed in the original study. Someone created the graph from just the numbers that the study reported.
Anyway, the home-brew graph contains a number of limitations, so I’ve improved upon it in the following ways:
Instead of using just one study, mine uses three, one of which is topical. That’s all of the range dosing studies as far as I know! They are colour coded everywhere in the image for clarity. The old graph is represented in my new graph as the red solid (not dotted) curve.
The graph display range has been adjusted from 0-5mg to 0-1mg. This helps make it a lot easier to see the much smaller microdoses, even around 0.05mg.
I give the ORIGINAL data points (as shown by the diamond/circle/X points and x/y labels). Needless to say, everything else is derived and only an approximation, so should be treated with caution!
Accuracy is better in the new one. The old one has a figure of 25% DHT inhibition for 1/16th mg dosage. I think the true figure is more like 37% as shown in the new graph.
I also give (where applicable) the DHT percentage reduced not just in the serum, but also the scalp, and also show a curve reporting the number of hairs grown back (or lost) – see the dashed red curve.
Finally, the studies I used are listed, and I stated the number of days / months before a DHT measurement is taken.
As more microdosing studies come in (topical or oral), I look forward to updating the graph further. Here’s the new graph again: https://archive.is/OGDk3

I had my eyebrows microbladed six months ago and the results are horrendous. How do I get rid of this ugly look quickly?
There are laser that are very superficial like the Q Switch laser that could take out the inks. There is a risk that you might lose your eyebrows if the inks were placed deep in which case you might then need an eyebrow transplant.

This article was published however, I am not impressed that this will cross-over into humans. You judge for yourself.

when i microneedle i achieve redness all over the scalp, but within the hour the redness goes away and by the morning it’s completely gone and i feel no pain at all. am i doing it wrong? is there no inflammation?
Some people have Histamine positive skin which turns red easily. If you scratch your forehead with your finger nail and it turns red in a few minutes, then you have Histamine positive skin. It just takes longer to lose the red color. Microneedling is becoming more and more popular to bring back the hair from the micro-wounds it creates. It does work on some people

I have been reading about Multiunit Family Groups (MFGs) and Multi Unit Groups (MUGs) which are felt by those who do them to be as good as Follicular Unit Transplants. These claims are very confusing. I met with a doctor last week who does MUGs and he stated that they are essentially the same as Follicular Unit Transplants. Is that true?
The reason that many people use MUGs or MFGs is that they can not or will not put the effort in learning or mastering the Follicular Unit Grafting techniques which are clearly more difficult and more expensive to deliver. There is a great movement to show equality between MUGs and MFGs and the golden standard Follicular Unit Transplants, which is absolutely not the case. At the ISHRS convention these past few years, some doctors showed off patients with MUGs and MFGs. They were at the same session as patients with final results from Follicular Unit Transplants and they are clearly not as good on close inspection. Like the “Emperor’s New Clothes’ , the MUGs and MFGs proponents want to believe that it is something that it is not.
Clearly, the use of MUGs and MFGs are better, much better than the old large plugs of yesterday. But they are just smaller plugs made up of groups of Follicular Units which when placed into MUGs and MFGs, tend to become compressed and look ‘stalky’. Real Follicular Unit Transplants are more difficult to do, but the quality on close inspection with Follicular Unit Transplantation can not be told from God’s work in the best of hands, most of the time.
William Shakespeare said, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet“, but the MUGs and MFGs doctors might modify this famous quote by declaring that a synthetic paper rose with perfume on it is exactly the same as a real rose for all practical purposes because it may (from a distance) look like a rose.
I think that Shakespeare was talking only about real roses and I am talking only about what God had designed in his original plan for us. We are naturally put together with Follicular Units, not MUGs and MFGs. Sorry if I offended anybody here.
