Yes, the temple peaks on the side of your hairline do grow slower than your regular scalp hair so when we transplant the scalp hair into the temple peaks, patient may have to trim it to balance it out
Looking Like Art Garfunkel
I am a 26 year old male, I’ve experienced rather quick hairloss (forehead line receeding, especially in the upper corners) over only 1 and 8 month period. It started when I began to get chest hair growing in. So I assume I’m experiencing genetic MPB due to testosterone changes. Its only getting worse. I’m new to all the drugs and treatments available. What course of action should i take? I dont want to look like Art Garfunkel.
You have just determined the absolute identifier for reaching the age where DHT kicks in. The appearance of chest hair is the biggest sign that DHT is now working on you. As you get even older you will see nose and ear hair as well; I should know, I am 63 years old. Propecia (finasteride) is a DHT blocker that will slow down the effects of DHT, but will not stop the chest hair completely. It will also probably slow down, stop, or reverse the hair loss. I recommend that you see a doctor and get on that medication. You need to have your hair and scalp analyzed for miniaturization so that good measurements will tell you where you are going to be as the treatment takes hold.
And for those too young to know who Art Garfunkel is, this is the hair style that the question-asker was referring to: Art Garfunkel.
Looking at My Hair in Old Photos Is Depressing
Here is a picture of me 5 years ago. I won’t show it now but it is half that volume. What can I do?
Get a HAIRCHECK test by a doctor who has the instrument and can determine exactly how much hair you lost. If you start treating it and repeat the test yearly, you will know how effective the treatment is or how fast the hair loss is occurring despite the treatment.

Looking at Family Hairlines to Determine MPB?
Hello,
I have a question regarding hairlines. Does the similarity of hairlines bewteen family members serve as a tool in determing the possiblity of MPB? Or does hairline similarity have nothing to do with MPB? Thanks.
Since the balding gene can come from either side of the family, you couldn’t make a determination about hair loss just by looking at hairlines. It’s not that simple, but if you have started to bald at 25 years old and someone in your family says, “Wow, your hair looks like mine at 25 years old!“, then it would be safe to assume that your pattern might follow his pattern both in scope and in timing. So, ask around and speak to the men in your family.

Look at My Glue on Hair (from Reddit)
I have seen this many times. Men often glue on bits of their hair just to thicken what they have on their heads. I have seen this from minimal to extensive. This man has done a wonderful job, but how does he maintain this? A wig might be the best answer to his look.

Longer time balding = longer time for regrowth? (from reddit)
Wasn’t sure if this was discussed at all. I know everyone’s response to treatment is different so let’s speak hypothetically here. In this scenario this hypothetical person will be one of the people who will have regrowth on finasteride. This will be the same person in 2 timelines.
Timeline 1: A man is balding for 10 years, sees he is now a Norwood 4 and decides to take finasteride.
Timeline 2: A man is balding for 5 years, sees he is now a Norwood 2 vertex and decides to take finasteride.
Would he take twice as long (or significantly longer) to see any regrowth in timeline 1 vs timeline 2? Or would he see the regrowth happening in the same amount of time in both timelines?
The timelines you are suggesting is not what we generally see. Your age and your genetics often determines the rate of change in your balding pattern and your response to medications.

How Long Do I Have to Wait to See a Value for the Finasteride I Am Now Taking?
I’ve taken steps to combat hair loss that I’ve been experiencing since about 20. I’m 23 currently, and about 2 months in the big 3 + Dermarolling. Recently, I’ve been experiencing shedding of very thin and small hairs. Is this a positive sign that they are going to be replaced by thicker hairs? Lastly, is there any signs of regrowth on my hair pics above? I’d like to say I see small progress for 2 months, but it could be hair length factors/lighting.
You have to wait a full year to see 80% of the value of the drug Finasteride. Sometimes, shedding is reported for the first two months as in your case. I don’t think that the Dermaroller adds value. You could add topical Minoxidil nightly to accelerate the effect. At your age, this combination of medications should work.

Any Long Term Users of Finasteride for More Than 10 Years
I have prescribed thousands of men Finasteride for more than 10 years. Majority of these individuals reported no side effects. Not only does Finasteride help with your hair, it is known to decrease the chances of getting prostate cancer.
