Dr. Jae Pak is performing the FUE procedure without shaving the head. This is a special technique limited to small number of grafts (300 to 600) for those who want the FUE procedure but do not want to shave their head.
I’m trying to determine if I lost any grafts after a recent FUE. I was extremely gentle and did not touch the grafts until day 5 when I was instructed to use moderate pressure and rub at the crusts to remove them. Some of the spots, especially near the hairline and temples were still acutely tender. I expected hairs to still be attached to the crusts. Many hairs did fall out with them. I have read your study on how long it takes grafts to anchor. My question is how much bleeding is typically associated with a graft loss? Just a spot? An ooze? A trickle?
Many places say you probably didn’t lose any grafts unless there was pain or bleeding. But they never specify how much bleeding. I am now at day 7. And hairs began falling off at day 5 with the pressure, which worries me that it was too early. Also, can I use lotion or moisturizer on the recipient site? It tends to dry out.
I wrote that paper with Dr. Bernstein on Graft Anchoring (see here: https://baldingblog.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/mp-2006-graft-anchoring.pdf). As long as there are crusts attached to the grafts, you must not pull them off. This is why I get all of the crusts off on day one. You can use a conditioner after shampoo and moisturize after the crusts are off.

I’ve used Min and Fin for 18 months, and it’s worked well. It’s slowed recession to 85-97% – though it’s hard to be objective – and there’s some light Min regrowth around my hairline. If it kept working like this indefinitely, I’d be rapt. … and that’s what I’m wondering. Many users – and, IIRC, studies – report efficacy of both these medications to at least somewhat dip over time. But I’ve anecdotally seen people on other forums talk about 10-15 years of use.
So how many Fin users ( and/or Big 3 users ) have reported good results from the drugs that have simply maintained anywhere near the same level of results over 5-10+ years? In other words: who has kept near to what they started with and had decent-to-strong long-term results – and/or even gains?
I have seen the Finasteride work for as long as it has been on the market. I know that because one of my patients, 62, was on it since it was released, but decided to stop it and got “catch-up hair loss”. He was devastated. He went back on the drug, but did not get all of his hair back.

How long will Finasteride maintain my hairline if taken consistently? I was a Norwood 1.5 – 2 at 20 years old, and I have been using Finasteride consistently for 13 months now. My hairline definitely maintained, and I see a little bit of regrowth in my temples. My question is: can Finasteride maintain my hair for another 5 or maybe even 10 years? My dermatologist said yesterday that Finasteride should maintain my hair for life if I use it consistently after seeing my one year of progress. But what do you think?
In many men who take Finasteride for life, they might maintain their hair if the drug continues to be effective as they get older; however, as man’s testosterone often drops with age, the effectiveness of the DHT blocker on the hair follicles may become less effective. One never knows what would happen if they did not take the drug when they are over 60. I had one patient who was 58, and he decided to stop the Finasteride after being on the drug for almost 2 decades. Within one month, he started to lose a great deal of hair, suggesting that the drug was holding on to his hair. At least their risk of prostate cancer is probably less.

It looks like a lot of us are going to be going into lockdown for the foreseeable future, which means a lot of us aren’t going to be getting enough Vitamin D. Now, Vitamin D does have a proven link to hair growth. It’s not going to stop AGA but it’ll help keep some of the thickness and generally just make us feel healthier in these times. Stay safe
If you live in cold climates, have to stay indoors for a long time, don’t have a tan, then taking daily Vitamin D supplements may be a good idea for your hair. Vitamin D only works in the presence of a Vitamin D deficiency.

Why with eyebrows raised up? Is that how the rule of 3rds supposed to work? Distance from bottom of nose to eyebrows line should be the same as the distance from eyebrows line to hairline? But that should be properly done with eyebrows lifted high?
The hairline ends at the frontalis muscle when you are 5 years old. Ask a 5 year old to lift their eyebrows and you will see their upper middle hairline touch the highest crease of their furrowed brow. The juvenile hairline is always located there. and as a male matures his hairline without balding, it will go up one finger breadth above that highest crease and change its shape from concave to convex taking in a V-Shape. That is why I I always ask my patients to raise their eyebrows, to determine the proper location of the hairline.
Here is the article, you judge for yourself. These units are expensive and from what I hear, the benefits are marginal. One of the problems with LLLT is the distance from the scalp and the amount of hair between the LLLT and the scalp. The longer the distance and the more hair, the less effective it will be. i have been losing hair from either side of my forehead.now im using minoxidil 5%.i was using other oil and wash it was before using minoxidil.but i came to know that if we use other oil it wont allow minoxidil to penetrate into scalp.so i stopped using it.but now my hair has become dry and is difficult to comb.there is a hair fluid called livon which instantly smoothens and softens dry hair.it is usually used on towel-dried hair.so i wanted to know whether i can use it and if i use will it stop minoxidil to enter into scalp or should i use the hair fluid after applying minoxidil.please advise.
While there is no way to be sure, but I would think using minoxidil at least 30 minutes prior to using the softening product (Livon) would be the best compromise.

Having too much fun so the Docs here prescribed me lithium at 600 mg daily…of course my question to you is does lithium have any potential side effects regarding hair loss???
Simply put, yes… Lithium and other antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs are known to contribute or to cause hair loss.
Is there a way to find a national listing of African-American dermatologists? I am especially interested in those that deal with Seborrheic Dermatitis in African-Americans. I have had this condition since high school and I am now 27 years old. I am seeking an African-American simply because other dermatologist seem to have shampoos/treatments they want me to use on a daily basis. As an African-American woman, I cannot do that or my hair will be damaged. My hope is to find someone who has researched alternative treatments due our hair type.
