Just Started Losing Hair at 60 Years Old

I’m 60. My brother has been bald for years, but I had kept most of my hair until the last 18 months during the stress of a business failure. Now it is very thin on top with a bald spot on the back. I began using 5% minoxidil about 45 days ago. Is there anything else I can do to at least stabilize the situation? Thanks.

It is rare to see balding start at your age, but we are programmed to have a certain number of hair cycles in hairs in different parts of the head. Maybe you have reached the age limit and number of cycles of some of your hair. It is not unusual for it to appear in patterns. Taking Propecia (finasteride) would probably slow it down and could reverse the thinning areas, considering that the entire process is recent, which is when the drug works best.

I Just Started Finasteride and Got Gynecomastia, Thoughts?

I just had a quick question. I took 1mg of finasteride for 2 weeks and noticed I was starting to develop gynecomastia. I immediate stopped taking finasteride and gyno has since went down. This was my only symptom. My question is, in theory, would taking only 0.25mg everyday give me a better chance of not developing gyno? I understand there’s about 60% DHT inhibition at 0.25mg. At 0.25mg, would I have less extra testosterone that would get converted to estrogen, and give me a better chance at not developing gyno? If this is a stupid way of thinking just to continue taking finasteride, please let me know. I’d appreciate your honesty!

Since it stopped quickly, you can try the lower dose and see. I always suggest that you clear everything with your doctor.

I Just Purchased an Inexpensive Hand Video Microscope and I Think That My Hairs Are Miniaturizing?

Yes, you are miniaturizing with thinning and wispy hairs that exceed 20% of the hairs that you are looking at. This is the early part of the balding process which often progresses with eventual loss of these miniaturized hairs. I put a few arrows to give you different stages of miniaturization in your hair, from thread-like to half a hair shaft volume. See arrows below.

Just How Bald is Bruce Willis?

Bruce Willis and Halle BerryI have a dispute with my friend that Bruce Willis in the movie Perfect Stranger is using “movie hair”.

Is that his real hair or not?

Honestly, your guess is as good as mine.

I don’t have access to the make-up artists and stylists that were on the set during filming of that movie (see photo above), and I haven’t had the opportunity to examine Bruce Willis’ scalp. It appears like he has a Norwood Class 4 pattern of hair loss from the above picture (no crown is showing), but I can’t tell for sure since he usually shaves his head completely in most of the pictures and movies I have seen him in. I would guess that the frontal hair shown in the above photo may be real. My reason for such thinking is this — why would Hollywood put hair on Willis’ head with a frontal balding pattern, when they could just as easily put it back to a pattern reflecting a period earlier in his life? I haven’t seen the movie, so I couldn’t really tell you if it was a purposeful choice.

I just hit puberty at 20

Basically I remember that I hit puberty later than my peers, when ohers grew pubic hair, etc. I had literally 0 hairs everywhere else. People tell me today that I look like 17/18 eventhough I am 20 so I am wondering if I should wait with fin or not. I haven’t been growing for almost 2 years now is this some indication? My beard has been developing pretty well in the last 2 years and now it is almost complete apart from connectors. Could fin affect my “maturing”? especially facial bone/etc. maturing/masculine appearance.

If you are not balding or losing hair, don’t take finasteride. There is not effect on facial bones once you have matured. If you take finasteride, it could reduce your beard growth.

I just had hairline lowering surgery. My hair is falling out, leaving bald patches and an exposed scar

Hair loss following a hairline lowering procedure, like any facial plastic surgery is a known risk. Many times, in men who get a hairline advancement surgery, it does not come back. If you lost hair at the advancement edge, the scar will have to be covered with a hair transplant. Usually women lose hair in the corners of their hairline and this is almost always permanent so a hair transplant will also address this as well. Hair loss elsewhere may reflect a dermatologic problem which should be diagnosed if you have one. The diseases such as FFA, LLP and other types of scarring alopecias need to be ruled out in the evaluation of your problem

I Just Had an FUE of 4200 Grafts. Do I Have a Problem with My Donor Area? (Photo)

Many people have donor densities that will not support 4000+ grafts. They will develop a see-through donor area, reflecting donor site depletion. This may be your situation, and to deal with this, you might have to keep your hair long in the back of your head, or see a doctor and get scalp micropigmentation if this bothers you.

Just for Men and Hair Loss?

Can dying hair with Just for Men cause baldness?

You first need to have genetic balding. The Just for Men dye product will not cause you to lose your hair unless you perhaps have an allergy to a chemical used in it.

Just a Question About Inheriting Balding

So, let’s say my maternal grandfather never went bald (His hair is white and thinning at age 75+, but had good hair most of his adulthood), but my maternal uncle is bald at 40+. My dad’s side all have decent hair. His hair is a little thin now as he is just as old as my maternal grandfather, but still enough that he still needs to get a haircut sometimes. What are my chances of going bald if my maternal uncle is balding but not my maternal grandfather? I have inherited my dad’s hairy body, but I’m not sure about testosterone sensitivity on the scalp.

There is no way to determine your risks of inheriting the balding genes.
