Is My Chest Pain from Minoxidil?

I had used minoxidil for hair growth 12 months ago for 4 months. I stopped it. That time I have not observed any side effects. Now I am again using the same to control the hair fall. Now I am feeling like chest pain (muscular). Is it because of minoxidil..? how safe this medicine ..? because chest and heart are more important than the hair.. Thanks in advance

Chest pain with minoxidil may indicated coronary artery disease, because minoxidil can drop blood pressure and cause reduced circulation to the coronary arteries (angina). Please see a doctor to make that diagnosis, as taking minoxidil may be the way you find out that you have some serious heart problem.

Is My Barber Possibly Pulling Hair Out?

Hello i think this website is great. I had one question…im experiencing some thinning in my bi-tempural areas. I get my hair shaved (not bald) every two weeks. I notice that my barber is a little rough with the clippers/shaver…could this be pulling my hair out??? Would this cause further miniaturization??

Does rubbing your scalp really work at reviving thinning hair??? thanks

If your barber is pulling out your hair, he is not furthering his business. Being rough with hair brushing will not accelerate miniaturization, but it can loosen hair that is on the way out to produce premature thinning.

Rubbing the scalp feels good, but you have to be careful that the rubbing does not pull out the weak hairs that are miniaturizing.

Is My Alopecia Areata Returning?

I’m a 17 year old kid who had alopecia areata starting at 15 years old. I shaved my head (all the way to the skin, shaving cream and all) and did this for 2 years. Recently i stopped and my hair has grown again (YAY!) Its back to normal but for the past month, my hair has started falling again. Can alopecia areata come back again? Or is it another problem? and if please what will be a solution for it!

Thank you very much!

There is no cure for alopecia areata, and as such, it can regress and then come right back. If it comes back again, another such experience it is not predicable. Alopecia areata is a lifelong condition. Please the see National Alopecia Areata Foundation site for much, much more information on this condition.

Is Missing Facial Hair a Side Effect of Rogaine?

I have been using Rogaine 5% topical solution regularly for about 6 years now. It has worked marvelously for preventing the thinning of my hair at the back of my head.

Just recently I noticed two large, circular patches on my chin and neck where facial hair no longer grows. I grow a goatee and didnt mind the two empty patches but now another small, circular patch has developed in my goatee area. Could this be a side effect of using Rogaine?

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

I would worry more about alopecia areata or fungal infection as a cause, which require a good doctor to make the diagnosis. I would doubt that this is a side effect of Rogaine.

Is minoxidil working if I developed arm and chest hair?

If you developed arm and chest hair with minoxidil and not scalp hair, that means that you are either taking it orally or absorbing a lot of the medication through your skin. I gather it is not working on your scalp hair?

Is Minoxidil or Propecia Making My Hair Thinner?

Hi, Dr., I’m 19 years old and I live in france, so excuse my english which isn’t wonderful. I’ve experienced hair loss for 3 months and I’m taking finasteride + minoxidil 5%. At the moment I’m not loosing hair but I’ve noticed that my hair are getting thinner? Is it possible that one of the two drugs I use is making my hair thinner? It’s bothering me a lot. Thank you for your understanding

Propecia and Minoxidil can possibly put you into a shedding phase, which will be short lived. Don’t be alarmed. Keep on the track you are on.

Is Minoxidil Only for Men?

I am a 58yr old woman. My hair is falling. A hair doctor has put me on to MINOXIDIL TOPICAL SOLUTION USP 2% HAIROUSE-MX. 1ML 2 X DAILY along with multivitamin tablets. I have been on it since 45 days. But to know more about this solution i googled it. To my surprise i found out that this solution should only be used by men, not women. Secondly, when stopped hair falls again.

What should i do? i am worried. I dont want to use it for the rest of my life. How do i stop it and being a female using this, am i harming myself? Please help.

2% minoxidil is sold as Women’s Rogaine, 5% minoxidil is sold as Rogaine (for Men). It is the only medication that is FDA approved for treating female hair loss. Some doctors may prescribe the stronger minoxidil (5%) for women, but that is on an individual case by case basis. Besides, it looks like your doctor put you on the 2% anyway.

You do need to use it for life if you want to continue seeing the benefits, and stopping it will result in a disappearance of any benefits you saw from it. In 45 days, you probably didn’t notice too much of a difference, if any. You should talk to your doctor about your concerns.

Propecia (finasteride) is only for men, so perhaps you’re confusing the two medications.

Is Minoxidil Not Intended for Men Over 50 Years Old?

Hello. I want o try using Regaine (called Rogaine in the USA) for hair thinning around the front and temples. I have read it’s not intended for men over 50 and I am 54. I am otherwise fit and healthy but could it harm me?

Rogaine / Regaine / minoxidil does not work well (and is not labeled for use) in the front and temple areas. It is mainly for treating the top crown.

There is no age limit I am aware of, though the medication does reportedly work best in men under 40 with recent hair loss. As with any medication (prescription or otherwise), read the directions included with it or talk to your doctor.
