I Had a Bottle Busted On My Head and Want the Scar Removed!

Hello. I had busted my head from a starbucks cappuccino bottle(Please don’t ask how It’s a personal issue..) And I was bleeding harshly from my head so my parents wrapped my head with some bandage really tight and put some healing glue over the scar. In like a week in a half it healed and the glue came off like a scab and I was left with a very smooth scar on the back of my head near the root of my head about the size of a quarter, the top part of your pointer finger(the first line part and up cant explain it good). I know hair isn’t growing back because its been three years.

I want to have the scar removed from my head, the surgery is they cut it out then sew your scalp back together and your left with a lined scar that is barely visible when hair is grown a little. I do NOT want hair transplant please don’t give me information about it. Please explain as much as you can about the “scar removal” surgery I have in mind and also a cost for this.

What I would like to have is have a surgeon cut out the scar since its a little smaller than a quarter and stitch the scalp back together leaving me with just a tiny thin line scar that would be. No wider that the original sizer of the sizer or length. Also since I am african american, I want to cut my hair down low to about a 2 but I can’t cause of this baldspot, my dad is willing to try surgery but not until its reasonable. Remember it is about the size of a quarter which is very small compared to others.

Thank you please help me with my problem. Also the color of the scar is about my skin color maybe even a bit darker, I have black indian hair so a big brown baldspot sticks out. Please fill me in with everything you possibly can.

Scar removal from the scalp sometimes works well… and sometime doesn’t work well. That depends upon:

  1. Your healing abilities
  2. The location of the scar
  3. The direction of the excision scar
  4. The surgical technique used

I would have to see your scars to determine what I would do. From what you described here, I am at a loss. You need to see a cosmetic surgeon with experience in scar revision.

I had a beard transplant 5 days ago. I am concerned that my herpes is acting up on my recipient scabbing area?

At 5 days, you have far too many crusts on your beard. What you are seeing is probably the crusting not the Herpes. You should nevertheless start taking your acyclovir because wounds like this tend to bring on the Herpes, possibly in the recipient wounds themselves.Many doctors would have put you on the acyclovir just for having a beard and mustache hair transplant. You need proper washing of your crusts to get them off. See your doctor as you shouldn’t look like this at 5 days, it is poor post-operative management.

I had 5500 grafts in two sessions total?

My hair is medium-coarse. I had two sessions totaling 5500 grafts. Do you think that it too many grafts from my donor area?

The men who most tolerate 5500 grafts excised from the back of the head are men with a coarser hair. That puts you in this category, so I would worry less, assuming that the FUE was done correctly with good spacing and no donor area shock loss.

An FUE hair transplant depletes the donor area. The greater the number of grafts, the greater the depletion and the see-through look you will develop. Each patient should research this subject before having an FUE with a large number of grafts. 5000 grafts for most people might be a bit too-much but that depends upon the original donor density you have. What is bothering me about the photo is that the surgeon who harvested your donor area went very high, well above the permanent zone which means that some of the grafts may fall out eventually if your balding pattern moves into your crown. More balding will also cause the scars from the FUE to show on your crown. That might imply that the surgeon made his/her decisions based upon their need for money if he/she charged you by the graft, not for your benefit. If you had this done in Turkey, then clearly whoever did your surgery had no clue as to what was permanent hair and what is not.

I had 4500 grafts

This is an impressive result; however, I don’t believe that you needed 4500 grafts to get this result. The readership is made to believe that this number of grafts were critical to your balding; however, that is absolutely not the case in my opinion. Your forelock was strong before you did the transplant to it hopefully wasn’t touched. I have had results like this with far fewer grafts.

Yes, I see what you are talking about. A session of 4,500 grafts requires a great deal of skill in handling the grafts. Grafts that are out of the body exposed to air for 10 seconds will die before they are put into the recipient area. Quality control therefore is very important. I suspect that the quality control may not be tight. I too would have expected to see much more density present. What is unfortunate, is that your donor area has been depleted by over half and another FUE in the donor area could cause you donor site depletion and a see-through donor area that looks like it is balding. My recommendation is to see a doctor with years of experience who knows how to manage your problem and won’t make you look worse in the donor area.

It doesn’t look like much of it has grown. What should I do now. Should I get PRP and ACell treatments offered by some doctors on the internet?

At seven months, you are seeing less that 50 percent of growth of what you can expect from your transplanted grafts. I would not expect the areas in the center to grow much more. I always tell my patients to go back and speak with their doctor as most reputable doctor will make things right financially. A-Cell and PRP is a waste of your money at this stage.

I Had 3 Procedures — Did I Receive Optimal Care?

Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with the hair loss community. I’ve had three successful transplants with a prominent hair transplant surgeon between the years of 2003-2005. The graph count of all three sessions was approximately 5,200. Lately I’ve noticed hair transplant sites lauding the success of a few doctors who are able to surpass 5,000 graphs in one session. Surely I would have preferred to receive my 5,000 graphs in one session as compared to three. Did I receive optimal care by my physican or did he lack the skill, resources, and know-how to produce the results (5,000 graphs)in one session? Or, are there factors that make it necessary for a person to have three smaller sessions as compared to one larger one? I’m a 48 year old male. Thanks again!

Sometimes large sessions (5000+) may not be possible on some patients when the size of the bald area is small. If the size of the bald area is large, to get a large session you need three things:

  1. good laxity (looseness) of the donor scalp
  2. very good densities in the donor area
  3. a specialized surgical team capable of doing this work in less than 8 hours

You should always have a good, trusting relationship with your doctor. I cannot comment on optimal care and would not suggest that you received less than optimal care. Maybe your surgeon’s team is not capable of performing these large sessions in the ascribed time period. Maybe your scalp is too tight or your balding area is too small. If you describe your surgery to be a success and are pleased with the results, then that is the determinant for the quality you recieved and I would go by the results you obtained when compared to the expectations you had prior to starting the process.

The picture shows heavy donor site depletion suggesting that the 2,500 grafts you had were too many for your donor area density. This suggests that you had a lower original donor density prior to your original FUE and any more FUEs taken from your donor area will make you look balder in the back of the head. A strip surgery is an option but this is something that you and your doctor need to discuss. You might consider a strip surgery for more grafting.

I had 2000 grafts one year ago, can I repeat it now?

The average Caucasian has 6,000-7,000 hair grafts, the average Asian or African has 80% of those numbers, so you can do it again with some to spare. It is not uncommon to repeat the surgery a second time for more density.
