Advisory Panel For FDA Recommends Restrictions To Doctors On The Use Of Testosterone

On September 17th, an Advisory Panel For FDA Recommends Restrictions To Doctors On The Use Of Testosterone on a vote of 20:1. Testosterone use has become more popular among American men and the question that is posed: Is it Safe? Men think that they have reduced testosterone and believe that it may be the cause of reduced sexual function. For these men, testosterone become the dream aphrodisiac to bring back their sexual performance and drive from their younger days. What most men do not realize is that decreased sexual function, from a physiological point of view is common in men over 40. Those with decreased sexual performance impacts (in general) 40% of men in their 40s, 50% in their 50s, 60% in their 60s and so on. Most of these men, especially those in their 40s and 50s have normal testosterone levels so added testosterone may have no know sexual benefit. Obviously from the vote, one panel member did not agree with the rest and this reflects uncertainty in the field. No one knows if the FDA will accept the panels recommendation.

I Am 50 Years Old and I Look over 60. What Can I Do?

I am 50 years old and balding. My neck droops, my joules show, by face is the opposite of tight and I have bags under my eyes. Can facial surgery and hair transplants fix these problems. Will these congeries cause scars that everyone can see?

If you feel you are looking older because of Jowls or a turkey neck or creases on your face and bags under your eyes that make you look old, you could be a candidate for a face lift and surgery on the bags under your eyes. Good hair on the sides is important to cover up face lift incisions where scars might form scars. The symptoms you listed can be addressed by working with a good hair transplant surgeon (for a hair restoration) and a good plastic surgeon. Hair covers incision scars from a face lift, even short hair provided that there is hair in front of and behind the ear where the incisions are made for the face lift. The bags under your eyes can also be treated with a good plastic surgeon and these surgeries usually do not scar. Good planning with your plastic surgeon is important.

Most men tell me that the hair transplant makes them look 10 years younger. Add to that the work on your face and your eyes, and you might be looking 30 again. If course, you did not comment on your ‘got’ and I am assuming that you are not heavy or looking for a liposuction.

17 Year Old Wants Hair Transplant

I am a 17 year old male. When i turned 13 I dyed my hair about 5 times, and bleached it once. The following year I began to lose my hair. You can see my scalp on the back of my head, not greatly, but very noticablly. The hair on top of my head is very thin now, and u can almost see through to my scalp. My hair has stopped falling out since then but the damage has been done. I have been to several doctors, and dermatologists, they all say it’s hereditary, since my father is bald. My questions are, if the hair loss is hereditary why did I start losing my hair at such a young age? If my parents and I consider hair transplantation am I guaranteed to have a full head of thick(er) hair? If we decide to have the surgery should I start taking Propecia to prevent any future hair loss? I would love nothing more than to have a full head of thick hair again. This has been a very stressful situation, being in my prime teen years, and entering my junior year of high school in September. I would greatly appreciate it if you respond to my message. Thanks for your time!

You are almost certainly too young to have hair transplants. Wtihout seeing you and examining you, I can not really understand what your hair looks like throughout the scalp. Seeing through the hair to the scalp means that you hair is probably very, very fine. This is a common look, something that my generation called a towhead. I would not be surprised to hear of balding in your family as 50% of men in their lifetime do have some form of balding. Some of your hair loss may be the results of the chemicals you put on your head when you were young. Before you start on a treatment plan, please read Miniaturization: Critical to the Master Plan for Hair Loss and develop a Master Plan for your hair. I can not really advise you without seeing you.

GNC Men’s Mega Men and Hair Loss, Follow-Up

Doctor,
You recently mentioned (GNC Men’s Mega Men and Hair Loss) that a certain GNC multivitamin contains DHEA, which can produce hair loss as a side effect. I use the GNC mega men multivitamin, and I can’t find any mention of DHEA -or the full name of Dehydroepiandrosterone- in the ingredients. Does it go by a different name? I suspect one or more of the following ingredients: L-Arginine, L-Carnitine, L-Glutamine, L-Taurine, L-Valine, L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine.

I also take a protein shake that contains much larger quantities of L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Valine, and L-Glutamine. In addition, I take a creatine supplement with L-Glutamine, Taurine, Glycine, K-Arginine, and L-Methionine.

Ironically, I usually take these supplements alongside of a DHT blocker (first propecia, more recently Avodart) because I was experiencing thinning hair a while back. I’m under the impression some of these may increase DHT production in the body.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me which, if any, of these ingredients produce hair-loss, or increase DHT, as a side-effect.The good news is that I haven’t noticed any additional hair loss, but I would like to cease use of these products ASAP if they accelerate the hair loss process.

Thank you very much.

My comments that reflected the presence of DHEA in the product GNC Men’s Mega Men come from the GNC.com website, where it states “Features DHEA, one of the most abundant hormones produced in the body and is a precursor to other hormones.. ”

DHEA can cause hair loss and that is all I have said about it. I am not against this product, just looking for things that cause hair loss and reporting what I learn to this audience.

With regard to the other listed nutrient supplements that you asked about, clearly a deficiency of any essential dietary elements in your diet can, by themselves produce hair loss.

L-Glutamine: There is a suggestion that high amount of this can cause increases in growth hormone, which could therefore produce hair loss if that association bares out.

Taurine, Glycine, K-Arginine, and L-Methionine : There is no direct association that I know of between taking amino acids supplement and hair loss. Any deficiency in these however, will produce hair loss. Good diets should alone produce adequate amounts of these essential nutritionals.

Liquorice may reduce unwanted hair

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26626191

Glycyrrhizin (or glycyrrhizic acid or glycyrrhizinic acid) is the chief sweet-tasting constituent of Glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice) root. Structurally, it is a saponin used as an emulsifier and gel-forming agent in foodstuffs and cosmetics (from Wikipedia)

The article doesn’t seem to say how it was used to reduce unwanted hair (not ready for prime time I suspect) as shown in these two photos

Giving Myself Bald Spots

Hello. I am a 17 year old male that maybe hair transplantation is the answer to my problem. So heres what happaned. This was about 6-7 years ago when i was a young boy i used to pull on the front part of my hair. I know thta is one of the hair problems children face (Alopecia Trichotillomania), but i was doing that for a really short period of time. After about 2 weeks of pulling I had completely stopped pulling on my hair. After a long period of time most but not all of my hair grew back. Its been 6 to 7 years now and i have a few bald spots that have been bothering me ever since. I have one a little less than a dime, and my hairline isnt shaped right, and scattered mirco tin bald areas. Also, I would like to know from an estimate, how much it would cost for this procedure, and what is the difference betweeen FUE, FUT, and a hair transplant. I live in the los angeles area. I really want to fix my hair problem. Thank you.

Your first step should be to get a diagnosis. Small bald spots may reflect alopecia areata or ringworm and neither of these should be transplanted. There is no substitute for a diagnosis by a good doctor.

Assuming that you are a candidate for a hair transplant, it is difficult to estimate the cost of something that I have not seen. If you can send me pictures or give me some way to understand the size of the bald areas, maybe I can estimate the job. If it is small, use coins to tell me (e.g 3 dime size areas or one silver dollar size area). On that basis, I can estimate the job. Picking or pulling out the hair (trichotillomania) must be under absolute control or it will happen again. The picking must be solved before you transplant it. I can always tell if there is active picking going on in your head.

As you are in the Los Angeles area, pay me a visit and I will determine what the problem is, its scope, and what to do next.

Given my family pictures, should I get a transplant?

When I was 17 the temples of my hairline had receded and I now have very minimal crown loss . I’ve been using minoxidil with dermarolling for the last 3 months on my hairline but all I can see are very tiny vellus hairs along my hairline. However for the past couple days I’ve been having day long migraines and I suspect it might be the minoxidil so I’m stopping use until around next week.

Hair transplants are personal decisions. Knowing what you might look like by looking at family members might help you understand better, especially if you can speak with those that are still alive and ask them if they could get their hair back (an completely undetectable hair transplant) would they have done it. You need to sit down with an expert in this field (hair restoration) and get a Master Plan worked out for your future hair loss problems if your hair loss should occur.

Give It to Me Straight. I Am a 22 Year Old Male with Hair Loss (Photo)

I’ve had the temples like that for a long time. Thing is I’ve recently noticed that some of my scalp in the front is visible when I’m in the bathroom where there’s a lot of light. Also a hair dresser (not my usual one) recently commented on how thing my hair is. I don’t know if this is something recent or it’s been like this for a long time and I’ve just noticed. Is there any chance I’m just a guy with thin hair?

The corners look a bit high suggesting possible early corner recession, but the overall hairline is a mature hairline. Wait it out, and consider taking the drug finasteride if it gets worse.

Girls In Haiti Orphanage Are Losing Hair

There is a wonderful ministry called “Love a Child” which has an orphange in the country of Haiti. The owner/manager of the orphanage is struggling to help several of her African American orphan girls who are suddenly suffering from hair loss. She has pictures of the girls on her site at loveachild.com

From reading various information on your website and others it seems the only options are:
1. Stop tight hair braids (but it’s too late now)
2. Costly hair implants

Any suggestions or advice you might have to help these precious children would be greatly appreciated.

From the photos in the link you provided, it seems the girls on the site have traction alopecia from wearing tight hair braids for long periods of time. Unfortunately, traction alopecia is permanent and there are no good treatment options. Hair transplantation surgery may help, but it cannot replace all the hair that was lost as even with a hair transplant, the supply of hair may exceed the demand for hair in the balding area.

Girlfriend might leave me as my hair goes

i’m 19 and she is 18 and we’re both going to be sophomore in college next year and she is going to dorm next year and im worried that we won’t be together because i’ll become too far gone and she will find someone with a really nice head of hair and obviously a personality and whatever. i happen to think i have an amazing personality but this hairloss would make me look, ugh idk like very unpresentable

Sometimes you need to challenge a relationship to find out its value. If your girlfriend would leave you simply because of hair loss, then she is shallow. You have value well beyond your appearance and your hairline. Think about that and if she goes away, she is not worth keeping
