Gay man asks if Dutasteride shrinks the prostate

Will Dutasteride will shrink your prostate even if it’s NOT enlarged? Will it shrink a normal-sized prostate? If not, why not? I’m taking it for MPB, and as far as I’m aware, I have a normal-sized prostate… but I’m gay, and prostate stimulation is an important part of the pleasure of gay sex. So if Dutasteride does indeed shrink normal-sized prostates, you can see why I might be concerned. It wouldn’t stop me taking it, but I would like to know.

Dutasteride was developed to treat or often shrink the prostate when it is enlarged from prostatic hypertrophy-a problem in men over 50. I doubt it will have an effect on a normal size prostate.

I Gave up My Wig After Years.

I have been on topamax for 20 years and now wear wigs. I am completely heart broken. I had lovely hair. I was put on Topamax for a off label use for mood disorder when I could of been put on so many other different medications. It is so very sad. I am 47 and I have to wear wigs to look pretty. I stopped taking this medication (cold turkey) six months ago with no problem at all and have noticed no change so far.

I had a man a while back who did Scalp Micropigmentation after he took off his hair piece which he wore for 25 years. He went to the office and everyone commented that he should have shaved his head years ago because he looked good showing off all of that “nice hair”. (It was really the Scalp Micropigmentation as he had a Class 7 balding pattern but looked like a man with a fully shaved head of hair.) Garlic Gel for Treating Alopecia Areata?

For those of us with Alopecia Areata, – this study may be beneficial to you guys. The study is quite positive. Please read the link below:

Link: Local Study on Garlic for Alopecia Areata

Nice find and thanks for sending. I don’t recall seeing too much about using garlic as an alopecia areata treatment.

This was a small study of 34 people presented last year at a conference in Australia. It does sound interesting, and I found another small alopecia areata study discussing the use of topical garlic gel in combination with betamethasone valerate, but I don’t know that the study mentioned in the link you sent was ever published in a peer reviewed journal. While the article is from the Philippine Dermatological Society site, it just mentions that the presentation was by one of their members…not that it was published in a medical journal.

I am glad there are new alopecia areata treatments being explored, regardless of how stinky they may be. And it’s worth noting that a few years ago the NY Times wrote about unlocking the secrets of garlic for use in medicine.

Gaps and Splits in Follicles

Hello,
I am an African American with natural hair. I have splits ends, but have also noticed that my hair follicle is also split in the middle of the shaft. There are areas on the shaft where the hair has not completely separated, however gaps are apparent. What is wrong with my hair?

It seems you have brittle hair. Maybe not split ends, but split middles? This can be due to many causes such as over styling or over drying with blow driers, chemical treatments, genetics, etc. Speak with your hair stylist about the use of conditioners that hydrate your hair shafts.

Gabapentin and Hair Loss

After 6 months of excruciating pain, I was prescribed Gabapentin. I took this drug in January 2018 for nerve pain related to a herniated disc in C6 and C7. I took the drug for a month while waiting for a disc replacement surgery. On the day of my last appointment before the surgery, I woke up pain-free!!! No pain since. I could not believe how fortunate I was. Was it the drug? Did my body heal? I didn’t care as long as I was pain free. We postponed the surgery. If the pain returned, then we would move forward. 2 months later, I still have no pain. Then, I notice there is a little extra hair when I brush or wash my hair. It turned into handfuls of hair! I had waist length, full-bodied hair – so much that I fought to wrap a ponytail holder around my hair twice.

It is June 2018 and I can now wrap a ponytail holder 6 times. Yes 6 and it’s loose!!!! When I touch my hair, I pull back loose strains. From May to June, I have lost an estimated 75% of my hair. If I had known this was the results, I never would have taken this pill. There are other options. I have started taking folic acid in hopes it will trigger the hair follicles to begin regrowing.

Hair loss side effects like shedding, decreasing volume, dullness, etc. have been reported with medications like Gabapentin Neurontin.

Gabapentin and hair loss

I started taking Gabapentin at 600mg a day seven months ago and noticed my hair has been coming out bad. At first I thought it was Keppra I was on but I stopped that in November and it just continued. It never occurred to me that it might be the Gabapentin because I was assured this was an incredibly safe drug. Used to have gorgeous hair. Now it’s thin where the bangs would be and all over really. Can see my scalp in areas. I have no male pattern baldness in my family. If anything we all have too much hair!

Gabapentin is an anti-seizure medication. Hair loss is a rare side effect.

Fynzur spray used in the EU for finasteride (photo)

This Fynzur spray is used in the EU to deliver 50 microliters of finasteride ( 0.2275% Solution) to the scalp. After the spray is activated, the patient feels the moisture on the scalp, even with long hair. Six months studied indicated that this does were equivalent to 1mg finasteride orally. This solution reportedly drops DHT levels by ~30%.

FUT or FUE Hair Transplant for a Diffuse Thinner?

Diffuse thinning should generally NOT be treated with a hair transplant. Why do you have diffuse thinning would be my question? Did someone give you a proper diagnosis? A good doctor might do a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/) as well as miniaturization analysis of your hair and look to see patterns of hair loss.

FUSS or FUE which is better?

Dr Lorenzo is one of the most famous FUE surgeons in Europe. He claims that “The greatest benefit of the FUE technique is that there is no damage done to the follicular units during extraction<quote>
source : http://injertocapilar.com/differences-fue-strip/?lang=en” How would you comment that. Based on what you write on your site the above is a false claim.

What Dr. Lorenzo calls FUSS has been a long proven technique and when performed in the hands of an experienced surgeon, it is certainly as good as FUE, or better put, FUE is as good as FUSS in the hands of an expert surgeon in most situations.
