Does finasteride make a man more feminine?

I’m a gym bro, have healthy testosterone levels and considering fin. As I understand it. Fin increases testosterone, increases estrogen and decreased DHT, it’s the last two I’m worried about. Talks about ED and gyno, although rare, make me worry for my “manliness”. Can anyone speak to muscle building, voice tone, behavior/deamenor while on fin?

No, the dose of finasteride is far too small to overcome the impact of all of your male hormones.

Does Finasteride Make a Cold Last Longer?

Hello doc,

Just wanted to thank you and your team for providing everybody with a website where we can come and get the proper information we need when dealing with our hair loss problems. I have two questions:

1. If you are on proscar (cutting it in quarters) and you get sick or get a cold, would it take longer for a person to heal or get better because of the proscar?

2. We have a somewhat famous hair transplant clinic in the area that I live in, and one of his male models the HT doctor employees is a colleague of my one friends. It turns out that this male model HASN’T had a hair transplant EVER (he does have some recession on the temple area but for the most part has long lucious hair). I do not know why this doctor uses him because its all fake. I’m in the advertising business and if I were to advertise a false or fake product I would lose my job and could be sued. So why would this doctor use a person who has not even gotten a transplant, and risk losing his job/license?

Take care.

1. Finasteride does not prolong a cold. I don’t know how you’d link the two.

2. I agree that using fake patients is not a very ethical practice. You should report that doctor to the ISHRS (assuming he’s “famous”, he’s probably a member) and your local medical board. Medical boards should put him/her on notice and a non-response will almost certainly put his/her license at risk.

Does finasteride lose effectiveness over time?

Some people say that finasteride looses effectiveness over time, some say 4 years while other say 10 years or even 15 years, is that the case usually ? Because I’M 24 with a NW2 and if I start finasteride now and have hair transplant and it looses its effectiveness in next 10 years when i’m 34 would that be a problem if the hair loss starts again ? and I’m aware that we have a limited donor hair

Finasteride remains effective over time. What changes is your balding pattern which progresses as you age. Without finasteride, it will progress faster.

Does Finasteride increase your sex drive?

Basically I’ve been on finasteride now for 6 weeks and my sex drive has shot right up. Is this normal? I thought finasteride has the opposite effect.

My own son reported it when he went on finasteride. His girlfriend loved it. I have heard this from many men. Few come forward on forums, just those who lose their sex drive.

Does finasteride increase the graft survival after a hair transplant?

Yield reports on graft/hair survival after a hair transplant reflect the growth of the recipient hairs in the transplanted grafts. Finasteride has nothing to do with the transplanted grafts as it doesn’t affect them, it just protects the native hair left behind.

Does Finasteride impact a man’s semen

What has been reported to me in addition to what I read are the following impacts on men’s semen: 1- change in consistency, 2- decreased volume, and 3- reduced sperm count.

Men wishing to have a baby should check their sperm count. If they find that they have a problem impregnating their partner they may consider stopping the drug with a risk of losing the hair you gained from it. I have seen some scattered reports that some men have seen such a radical reduction in sperm count that they would be considered sterile; however, stopping the drug supposedly increases the sperm count over time.

Does Finasteride Control Genetic Hair Loss or Not?

Dear Sir,
This is with reference to comment titled “Periodic Shedding from Finasteride?” in which you had mentioned that Finateride do NOT help to control genetic hair loss. I was impression that Finasteride helps to control the genetic hair loss by handling the DHT accumulation. If Finasteride do not help to control the genetic fall off, what exactly this drug is intended for? Request your advise to understand this better.

This is part of what I said in that post that you’re referring to:

It is important to realize the the genetic hair loss has its own course, independent of the effects of the drug. What you think is shedding from finasteride, is probably more genetic hair loss. Hair loss goes in waves and cycles of loss (shedding) most likely due to your genetics, not the finasteride. You should discuss this with your prescribing doctor.

To clarify, finasteride is not a magic pill that stops genetic hair loss. It decreases DHT production at the hair level to combat the DHT that facilities genetic hair loss. As a result, most men on the drug will have some hair growth or slowing of the hair loss. The main point here is that the genetic predisposition will continue and finasteride will carry you only so far.

Does Finasteride Contribute to Mental Illness?

Saw this story and Im honestly worried about this the most. My mental state is very valuable to me. Can anyone give some insight?

There are reports in a few men taking finasteride that there are central nervous system problems with this drug. If that happens to you, you are best off stopping the drug and these symptoms go away.

Does Finasteride Change a Woman’s Cycle?

Will taking finesteride alone cause changes in a woman’s cycle. I recently stopped birth control pills and continued the finesteride but have noticed some changes.

Thanks

Finasteride is NOT approved or recommended for women, especially those who are of childbearing age. Even more importantly, finasteride can potentially cause birth defects if you were to stop your birth control and become pregnant. You need to speak with your doctor and address your issues. I can’t imagine why any doctor would prescribe this medication to you at your age.

Since there have been no studies (that I know of) in women of child bearing age, I would not know how it would affect the woman’s cycle. There was a small study on finasteride in women experiencing postmenopausal hair loss, but this is clearly not the case for you.

Does finasteride cause shedding?

In my experience prescribing it, I don’t hear of much complaints about shedding unless the hair loss is under rapid progression and the shedding was going on before the drug.
