Can Transplanted Hair Be Re-Transplanted if I Continue to See Thinning?

I am a 24 year old male who has somewhat of a receding hairline like my father who has the same hairline I have, but he is 57 years old. While he has maintained his hairline, the hair on the top of his head is noticeably thinner than on the sides.

What if I had a transplant primarily to the front of the scalp and then continued to thin elsewhere on my head. Since the hair in a transplant will not thin like the rest of the scalp as one ages, my question is can the transplanted hair be thinned out or even removed to blend better with the rest of the scalp?

I wouldn’t recommend it, but I suppose what you’re asking can be done theoretically. However, if you have a good Master Plan and a good surgeon, you should be able to plan out how to address your hair needs now so that it doesn’t look bad even 50 years from now if you continue to thin.

Overall, I think you are missing the point… which is that you need to see a good surgeon (face to face) for an examination and a specific consultation for the planning of your individual needs.

Can I Transplant Body Hair and Neck Hair Into My FUE Scars?

If you try filling in FUE scars with more hair transplants from the thigh, body, or neck, you will be subject to the limitations of these donor sites. The neck hair is not permanent hair. Additionally, all body hair below the neck has a short growth cycle, and only half of the hairs will be growing at any one time. Filling in FUE scars can be very expensive and not very effective. In my opinion, SMP is the best option.

Can Toppik Accelerate Hair Loss?

Hello Dr. Rassman
Again, thank you thank you thank you for spending the time to provide this blog. It is an oasis in the desert of misinformation on MPB. I have a quick question:

Can products like toppik / couvre and / or hairsprays accelerate hair loss? Are there any negative repurcussions to using such products? I havent noticed any accelerated hairloss but I use toppik and hairspray everyday and wondered if they could be damaging my hair in any way?

Aside from my concern, I strongley recomend toppik to anyone with thinning hair. I’ve found it really helps for cover up / concealing purposes.

Thanks Again

I totally agree. Toppik (color-matched keratin protein fibers) and hair spray (glue, basically) are excellent additions to any hair loss sufferer’s cosmetic arsenal. I also highly recommend trying different styles to maximize the hair that you have (one of the reasons women’s hair loss is underdiagnosed is because they take the time and try different tricks to camoflage it well). As for these adjuncts causing hair loss the answer is “No” – there is no evidence that these affect your loss in any way. Chemical hair loss CAN occur with chronically chemicaly treated hair, but these two products do not fall into this category so you can continue to use them without fear.

Can Topical Acne Cream Cause Hair Loss?

Can Tetracycline and or Tazoric/Differin facial cream (for acne) cause hair loss? I am a 21 year old male and I have been losing hair quite rapidly, got tested for thyroid disease and low iron and my tests came out fine. I was wondering if these medications are used long term (2-3 years or longer) can they cause hair loss? There are people in my family with MPB but they all started baldling later in life (40s or later). Thank you so much for your time doctor! Hope to hear from you soon.

While hair loss is not listed as a side effect on the documentation for tetracycline, Tazorac (tazarotene), or Differin (adapalene), there are some unconfirmed reports about hair loss and Differin that I found on a message board. Take this for what you will. Once again, these are unconfirmed reports.

The most common cause of hair loss in males is genetic hair loss. If you are concerned about genetic hair loss, you need to see a doctor who can examine your hair under a microscope (miniaturization study) and assess the pattern at which you are losing your hair. There are medical and/or surgical options.

Can this hairline be fixed?

Yes, this hairline can be fixed; however, it may require you to make compromises as to its location. I would have to see you first before drawing a conclusion. Look at this repair which I did not to different that what you have: https://baldingblog.com/repair-of-hairline-transplants-photos/

Can this be ED?

I’ve been noticing so far that for the past 6 months while on fin my erections have been getting less hard. is this normal or has anyone else experienced this?

2-4% of men taking finasteride will experience some level of ED. The options could be to reduce your dose to half of a quarter of the dose and continue it for 6 weeks at the lower dose, increase it gradually but stop at taking one pill every other day (half the dose is 80% as effective). Alternative number 2, stop the drug

Can Thinning/miniaturization Naturally Stop?

I have thinning and recession at the temples and slight thinning at the crown (22 male). This was confirmed under a digital scope. Is it possibly that this process will naturally stop and not progress much further? My father’s hair thinned in his 20s and receded at the temples but seemed to have halted. Same goes for his father.

Unlikely that it will stop if it is genetic. This is a progressive process and at your age, only gets worse until you treat it. It will likely progress until your inherited pattern is reached

Can the Microwave Oven Cause My Hair Loss?

My hair exposed from the heat of the microwave oven. is this possible that my hair will burned? what if i saw my hair been fall down. i saw pieces that is burned what are the effects of this?? Thank you

MicrowaveDid you stick your head in the microwave and manage to turn it on? There are safeguards in place in most (or all) microwave ovens to prevent you from turning it on while the door is open, but assuming you somehow did… I really don’t know what effect it would have on your hair.

If there was heat and you manged to burn your hair at the scalp level, causing 2nd degree burns to your scalp, I would venture to say you may have permanent hair loss.

Your question is very strange. But with that said… using a microwave oven in a normal way would not cause hair loss.

Can You Tell It’s SMP?

I had a patient who I brought to the International hair meetings where there were about 400 doctors present. He had alopecia totalis, not a single hair on his body anywhere. He had SMP done by us, and when the doctors met him, none of them could tell he had SMP even though they knew. A well done SMP should be undetectable. The hair can be shaved or long, nothing in-between works as well.

Can You Tell Me If I Am Going to Get Gyno If I Take Propecia?

So I just got some blood work done to decide if I wanted to start finasteride. My main concern is developing gyno. Anything here that sticks out to anybody? Thanks.

Test -618 ng/dl (Ref:264-916)

Free test -15.2 pg/ml (Ref:9.3-26.5)

DHT -47 ng/dl (Ref:30-85)

Estrogen -72 pg/ml (Ref:40-115)

Estradiol -37.5 pg/ml (Ref:7.6-42.6)

Prolactin -19.9 ng/ml (Ref:4-15.2)

I’m also about to turn 21 in a few days and I’m in pretty good shape physically.

The tests are normal and that is what I would expect. You can’t predict Gynecomastia when taking finasteride and the blood tests will not tell you anything.
