Can I Tell in Advance If I Am Going to Get Sexual Side Effects from Finasteride?

I am a 23 y.o male thinking about trying Fin. Actually, I am open to all options, be it Minoxidil or Keto shampoo or whatever. Currently, I think I should wait until the 14th to see the results of the Brotzu trial everyone is raving about. In the meantime, I want to speak with some doctors to see their perspective on the drug. So, is there any way of telling the likelihood of Fin side effects? I read by some other posters on this subreddit that there is a 1 in 100,000 chance of ED. I was just wondering what your perspective might be? What would the procedure be with ensuring the highest chance of keeping my dick if I chose to use Fin? What about peppermint oil, rosemary oil, coconut oil, and other herbal remedies? Do you have any insight on these? Also, I just wanted to thank you for all your contributions to this subreddit. I have learned a great deal reading your comments.

There is no way to determine if you will get side effects, but people who are primed mentally are the ones that mostly get it. In reality, the risks are about 3%, and if you happen to be the 3%, there are ways to reduce the dose to address side effects that work in half of the men on the drug. Remember, if you believe this will happen to you, it will happen to you. When my son went on it, he thought he was taking his daily vitamin P, he told me. His sex drive went down, so he called me and asked if that was a side effect. I told him it was for about 3% of people.

Can I talk about sexual side effects if my doctor is a woman?

My doctor is a woman and I’m 18 years old. If i ever experience sides from finasteride, i’ll feel weird to ask my doctor about it. Does it matter about what gender doctor is? I just feel more comfortable in talking to a guy about sides if they ever show up.

Women doctors are just doctors and they often speak about sexual problems with male patients without embarrassment. Focus on your needs, not the sex of your doctor.

Can I Take Testosterone and Finasteride at the Same Time?

I’m 23 and I started losing hair since 18 but not in an aggressive way. I am still an NW 2/3. Recently, I’ve started TRT because my Testosterone results came back a bit low. For the past two months. I have been thinking about hopping on the big 3 minox/fin/niz since I still have a good amount of hair, but I am really hesitant to start Finasteride because of the horror stories I have read and heard about the side effects.

So, what do you think?

Men who take testosterone and have the genes for hair loss lose hair regardless of taking Finasteride. Additionally, young men should not take testosterone.

Can Styling Products Kill the Hair?

I’ve been on the finasteride and minoxidil stacked for a little over a year now, and I’ve had great results with minimal sides.

I just recently got into styling my hair. I’ve been using pomade daily, and I’m concerned about the amount of hair I’ve been seeing on my hands and comb/brush when styling.

I’m wondering if this is indeed increased shedding from the styling product, or if I’m just catching “sticky clumps” of hair from the pomade.

No. The hair above the scalp is dead, so styling products can change the character of the hair, damage it when it is heated with an iron, or be damaged with dye. The hair follicle, which is below the skin, keeps pumping out new hair at a rate of 1/2 inch per month that is not damaged.

Can a Strip Scar from a Hair Transplant Become Smaller with a Second Hair Transplant?

I did an FUT in 2010. I was told by a respectable clinic in Turkey that I can do a second FUT, where the old scar will be cut and the surgeon will perform an incision on top of scar and remove it. So, instead of old scar, I will have a newer thinner one. How is this possible? I’m aware I can do an FUE on top of the scar. Unfortunately with FUE, I’d have to shave my head, which would make the old scar visible. My long term plan is to do an FUE on top of scar but not now.

A second surgery almost always increases the size of the scar, if it is another strip surgery. Sometimes, I remove the scar and create a trichophytic closure which helps hair to grow through the scar. However, I reserve this for the last surgery I do when I perform a strip surgery. Strip surgery scars can easily be treated with scalp micropigmentation (See here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/scar-covering/)

Can Stress Cause a Child’s Hair to Stop Growing?

My 4 year old has blonde hair and in the last year I have noticed that the hair on her left side has seemed to stop growing. It appears to have a different texture and feel to it and i often notice in the morning after she sleeps that it is pushed forward, but it doesn’t seem to go back easily. On that side of her head she seems to have more broken ends and shorter pieces. Is this a concern? In the last year and half we have moved and she had a brother born with a Congenital heart defect with a lot of needs in the beginning of his life, could it be stress?

Thanks

I would not look at stress as the cause of your daughter’s hair loss/abnormal hair growth. See a good doctor, possibly a pediatric dermatologist if you are in a big city where such a specialty may be found.

Can Stopping Proscar Bring on Side Effects?

I have been taking proscar for hair loss for about 12 years and recently read a disturbing article in Mens Health regarding side effects. Has new long term evidence emerged that shows greater risks? Can stopping the use of Proscar actually bring on side effects?

We are being overwhelmed with negative information that is out of proportion to the reality of the actual numbers of side effect and the statistics that go with that information. Are you willing to take the chance on reversing the hair benefits that stopping the medication will bring about? Any benefits, even reduced prostate problems, will reverse if you stop the medication.

Can Someone Control DHT?

HI DR. RASSMAN, I have a question for you…. you say propecia slows the hairloss, but mphl still progresses. I would like to know why the radio show host Spencer Kobren (The Bald Truth) has been able to stop his hair loss for 11 yrs now. Is he from another planet, or someone very special because he say that DHT is scared of him???? I mean you say the studies on merck site show hairloss continues even on the drug but yet I know Spencer has stop his hairloss. I think you might be reading that propecia curve wrong. I believe that when you start taking propecia you ” SHOCK THE SYSTEM” and you hairs go into a angen phase so appears like more hair is growing in the first 2 yrs but are hair does not stay in that phase forever . The hair on our head is not all in sync at the same time. I would also like to point out that the graph shows hair that was grow from vellus hair and does not count the hair that was maintain.. like the the terminal hair. That means at 5 yrs you will have 277 more hairs then when you started but what about all the hair you maintained. There is a difference between maintenance and the growing of lost hair. He has kept his so I think that proves his point, don’t you? DO I make sense..

What you’re saying is speculation based upon little fact. You are confusing things like vellus hair and miniaturized hair. The vellus hair is in each follicular unit (with or without balding present) and miniaturized hair is hair that is impacted by the genetic balding process. All hair goes into anogen, the longest part of its growing cycle and it may last years. You are implying that vellus hairs grow into normal hair on Propcia, but that is not a fact that I am aware of. One can not put all of the pieces together the way you did. The fact that Spencer did not lose his hair may have been in his genetic cards, and certainly not because he “scared” his DHT away. I would not say that former President Bill Clinton “mastered” keeping his hair or that he “frightened” his DHT, even with the Pentagon behind him. Sorry, but I have little to add.
