Can I Have a Transplant Now, Then Redistribute Those Same Grafts Years Later?

I’ve been reading on treatments for months after realizing I’m beginning to express an NW3 pattern on my head. I’m extremely worried about how silly I will look like, when Propecia wanes and hair loss accelerates in my 50s and beyond, if I have a hair transplant at 30 and use up too much donor hair.

So to tone down my worries, I’m conjuring a kind of modification of the “Master Plan”; one which will involve a transplanting those follicles now, then having a scarce few of them re-extracted in my 50s, if the hair loss gets too bad, and re-distribute these to go well with the decreased density of hair. Would you do a FUE like this twice on the same follicles?

It technically can be done… but that would not be a good plan. Generally, when the Norwood class 3 pattern is treated, it should remain untouched. If you are smart about your hair loss treatment and use the drug finasteride (Propecia), then hopefully you can prevent your migration of the hair loss as you age. That makes more sense.

On the other hand, if you progressed to a more extensive pattern and stay with the hair transplants in the front/top, the results should always look normal.

I get that you’re trying to plan for a worst case scenario, but Propecia doesn’t necessarily just stop working for everyone. Some men might see the effects wane after some years, but I’ve had patients taking it for over a decade with great results. Besides, in 20 years there could hopefully (fingers crossed) be new treatments available.

Can I Have a Hair Transplant Into a Scalp Scar I’ve Had Since I Was a Kid?

I have a large scar from a head surgery from when I was young. Hair does not grow there, and it looks very bad with my hairstyles.

I am currently 18. Would I be a good candidate for hair transplantation onto the scar, especially as regards to shock loss?

Maybe, but I can’t really say without an exam. You should see a hair transplant doctor for a better idea.

At NHI, we routinely perform surgeries to cover scalp scars as long as realistic expectations are understood. In other words, each case is different.

Can I go from a hair system to a hair transplant?

Question, is it advisable to use hair systems when i have plans to have transplants in the future? will the scalp be damaged? Thank you.

Are you aware that hair systems cause significant hair loss from the glues and attachment clips? This will make the balding worse and increase the size of the hair transplant you may need if there is hair in the area of the hair system.

Can I Bald Without Shedding?

I’m wondering if its possible to begin to have a receding hairline/thinning crown/diffuse thinning, without there being an associated increase in hair shedding (i.e. when styling hair, washing it, on bed). Every article I read says that MPB puts more hair in the shedding phase, so that should mean MPB and shedding are correlated. But isnt it possible to go bald without any noticable increase in shedding? In other words, maybe the 50 – 100 hairs you lose a day, while normal by all metrics, simply just dont grow back.

I would think that for diffuse thinners/crown thinning, there has to be an increase in shedding since it covers so much area… But for hairline recession maybe less so because the temples are a smaller region?

Recession and balding can occur separately, but developing an extensive balding pattern will produce shedding in all men eventually

Can I Go Bald By Sharing Shampoo with a Bald Person?

Hello mr. rassman

My question is can someone go bald if they share stuff with a bald person. sharing a soaps, shampoos, combs, and such or sharing a pillow.

Hair loss does not reflect a contagious disease. If it was contagious, then there would be as many balding women who share such soaps and shampoos with their husbands or boyfriends.

Can I Get SMP So My Fine Hair Doesn’t Show Scalp in Certain Lighting?

I have fine thin hair that you can see through in some lighting situations. Would SMP work in the front as well as the back as an effective concealor? I want to still keep my hair long for now and do a bit of SMP then maybe do more SMP down the road.

Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP) is an effective concealer, but it is not the answer to everyone’s concealer needs. From your description, I can not determine what you look like… and without speaking with you, I can’t determine what would make you happy with your appearance.

At the least, send some pictures and schedule a telephone consultation so we can try to address your needs.

Can I Get Rid of the Old Hair Plug White Scars in the Donor Area?

I had grafts put in about 12 years ago, the method that was used left me with many large white holes in the back of my head in the donor area. My goal is to shave my head completely and not see those white marks. Is there a way to get rid of them? Something you can do? What about Lasers as well? By the way, what are those white marks called? It is not a strip scar but it has another name.

Thank you very much….

I suspect that you are talking about the drill holes that were the original way to harvest the grafts. Originally, the doctors used a hollow drill (maybe an old model of a Black and Decker) to make drill holes to core out the hairy donor skin. Some doctors never sutured these closed, leaving huge holes which filled in with white scar tissue that reflected that the wounds were left open (the process of healing is called secondary intention healing). There is little you can do about them.

They can be filled in with transplants taken out with the FUE technique or tattoos can also possibly work, but the problem is that when your hair turns white as you age, the tattooed hair will remain close to the original color (black or brown, perhaps) and over time I would suspect it’ll start to blur. In other words, I think that for a short term solution, you could create a long term problem with the tattoo.

Can I Get My 15 Year Old Femail Hairline Back

A young woman wrote this a while back and this week, just four days before these pictures were taken, we moved her hairline back to her 15 year old concave hairline. This is the same hairline that my wife had done here over a year ago. This rounded frontal presentation is a classic female look.
