Do Birth Control Pills Cause Hair Loss?

Birth control pills are high on the list as a cause for female hair loss. When one pill doesn’t work, switching to another brand under control of your OB/GYN doctor who will address the hair loss issue is the route you should take

Biotin

Hi Dr. How much biotin should I take a day for hair loss???

Biotin deficiencies can cause hair loss, so many people may include biotin in their vitamin regimen. However in healthy people it is almost impossible to have a deficiency of biotin. A biotin deficiency is therefore extremely rare in the United States. When it does occur, it may be associated with disease conditions of the gastro-intestinal digestive tract. An adequate daily dosage for biotin is 30-100 mcg for the adult male.

Biotin for Hair Growth?

I have heard Biotin can aid in hair growth. Is this true? If so what daily dosage do you recommend?

I do not believe that biotin can aid hair growth, but I’m sure I’ll get plenty of emails or comments from people disagreeing with me. There’s a lot of websites out there that go on and on about the virtues of taking biotin for hair growth, but I’ve yet to see a credible site that isn’t pushing supplements for sale talk up those virtues.

Biofiber transplants, a horrible experience!

I had a horrible experience with biofiber hair transplants since 2 years and since that say I didn’t have one day without pimples and small abscess , I had traveled 2 times and lost too much money with no benefits. I searched everywhere to find someone Can remove it and even the part inside the scalp. It was a big mistake that I totally regret it, Please assess my condition if there’s any hope.

An experienced doctor may be able to remove each of the fibers as they are either (1) identified on the scalp with an FUE punch, (2) become infected. The general problem is that many times, buried biofibers remain even after individual surgical attempts to find them all is completed. You have to have a good relationship with the doctor who is removing them and realize that this problem may go on for a long time if any of the fibers are not found at the initial time the surgeon attempts to remove them.

This procedure, the use of artificial hair fibers implanted into the scalp, has been banned by most countries. Any doctor trying to do this in the United States could expect to be in trouble with their medical license. I know how good they look for the first few weeks as I have met a few patients that had them many years ago, but then hell pays a visit. You have been there, it seems, and you are still there until these fibers eventually work their way out. The good news is that they will eventually be pushed out by your body but multiple infectious periods may have to be managed, experience after experience by an easily accessible doctor.

I had biofiber implants from Italy and now my scalp is inflamed (photo)

A year ago, I got my synthetic hair implant in another country clinic, since they really persuaded me to try out their biofiber synthetic hair implant made from Italy. Now I started having inflammation and redness and itching, I visited a dermatologists who recommended that I get these removed immediately.

I have seen such patients and their entire scalp becomes very infected and scarred, even after the removal of the synthetic implants. This takes a long time and many visits as some of the implants get burried in the scalp. Fortunately, these have been outlawed in the US and many countries, but a few clinics remain in Europe and elsewhere offering it and some people think it is a great idea and may pay heavily for the decision to get them.

Biofiber (artificial hair – photos)

Biofibers, a type of artificial hair that is inserted deep into the scalp, causes long term infections that are common. These have been banned in most countries in the world. I hope that this reaches people who are considering this type of treatment and learn from this post not to do it.

Billionaire with Bad Hair Transplant (Reddit)

I have found that many of the rich and famous don’t do their research when it comes to getting a hair transplant, as I have had to fix many of them. Donald Trump is a good example of a botched job (scalp reductions, and now he is stuck with a terrible scar down the middle of his head with balding around it). This man that you referenced should have had his donor supply quantified and a proper plan built. Maybe he was a bad candidate for a hair transplant, but now that he has it, he can do something about it, like possibly another transplant to thicken the frontal leading edge, and getting scalp micropigmentation for the rest of his head, and he might look much better (see https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/bold-shaved-look/). After a bad transplant, he either will learn to live with what he has, or he will find a doctor like myself who specializes in repairs.

Bilateral Varicocele and Propecia

Yes, another Propecia question for you. Sorry 🙂 I am 37 and have a bi-lateral varocele, grade 2 on the left and grade 1 on the right. If I started on propecia, could its side effects be more potent or affect my condition? From what I remember, the Merck studies did not get into the issue of results or drawbacks of people with Varocle.

This is a question you must ask the doctor who is following your problem. There is no obvious answer, other than you cannot just correlate any medical issue with a side effect. I am not a urologist nor do I treat varicoceles, so I am probably not the one to answer the question.

Big Problem – Unfinished Hair Transplant Work

When it comes to hair transplants, some people don’t always finish what they start — perhaps due to money issues or just not wanting to go that route ever again because of disappointment in the results, failures of the surgery, or severe pain with the surgery. The pain and costs of more surgeries is a real turn-off for many of these people, but times have changed. Surgery is rarely painful, prices have come down, the results are not detectable as being any different from your natural hair, and alternatives are available… so exploring the sum of today’s options may be worthwhile.

Patients with an unfinished hair transplant hasn’t really been a problem in our practice, because we get personal with all of our patients and get to understand their goals, never promising them a rose garden, but setting up realistic expectations with regards to how many surgeries they will need to hit their targeted goals. In the old days (1980s) one rarely saw a finished hair transplant patient and few, if any, looked normal. I ran a large hair transplant practice in 1989-90 (before founding the New Hair Institute) and I was amazed that I never really saw a finished job while I worked there. Today, that is not the case as many completed hair transplants are undetectable.

If you are one of those individuals who did not finish their hair transplant work to meet their expectations and still look like an unfinished piece of poorly done art, I would suggest that you look at the Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) process as a surgical alternative for thickening. This could possibly be a way of thickening up the appearance of your hair transplant without having another hair transplant. SMP works to camouflage even some of the old type of plugs when done properly.

For many people, SMP can contribute to completing the process, but a consultation with us is critical to defining your needs and the ability to achieve your objectives at a reasonable cost.
