20 year old wants a ‘small’ transplant (bad thing to do)

I am on Fin and Min and my hairloss doesn’t seem to progress. Because I have high temples naturally and no regrowth, I wanted to ask if there are clinics that transplant hair from the top of the head, rather than the back. As I believe I will lose all hair eventually, I would like to have a small transplant of hair that will fall out with the other hair if I stop Fin. I am 20 right now by the way.

You are absolutely wrong about your hair loss. The back and sides always stick around regardless of how much hair you lose. A small transplant is like being a little bit pregnant, there is no such thing. If a 20 year old gets a little transplant, then the balding will accelerate (worst and most probable case), and you lose out big time. See a good doctor, make a Master Plan with that doctor and follow that plan with that good doctor for the next 20+ years. Look at this previous post I wrote which defined the issues very well: https://baldingblog.com/22-year-old-received-a-hair-transplant-of-2800-grafts-from-reddit/

20 Year Old Wants Hair Transplants to Fill in a Surgical Scar, But There’s a Family History of MPB

I am a 20 year old male and was wondering what type of procedures there are, if any, to have hair grow where a scar is from surgery. My freshman year of college at Indiana University I was playing basketball and collided with another player resulting in a depression in my right orbital bone above my eye. To fix the depression a plastic surgeon had to peel my face off to get access to the depressed bone resulting in a scar going from one side of the head to the other. My family having a history of baldness I was wondering if its possible to have hair grow over a scar. Thanks for the help.

I would want to see photos or meet with you in person. I have had one patient with that type of deformity and his transplanted area (including the eyebrow) did correct most of his problem, but everyone and every scar is different. Let’s start off with some photos though, as that is probably most convenient for you. Send them here and reference this post when sending, please.

Having a hair transplant to fix a scar is reasonable provided that you know what would happen to you if you should bald. That means to me that you should, at a minimum, have a Master Plan for your worst case scenario understood.

20 year old wants a hair transplant

I am a 20 year old male and I want to discuss about hair transplant. I Started noticing hairloss since around age 19 and since then I have been using rogaine to help me with it(about 7 months now), I have also just started finasteride a month ago. Although I only have a small amount of recession, I want to get a small hair transplant done so that my hairline looks good. I am a model/actor hence I am in front of the camera a lot and I need to keep my hair looking good in order to maintain a few of my upcoming roles. After doing a bit of research I came across the fact that hair transplant is usually done on people above the age of 25. But I am fine with getting it done two or even three times in the next decade as long as I can keep my hair! I also think it is worth mentioning that money is not an issue for me in the sense that having good hair would be an indirect investment into my career. What would you advise me?

Please look at these pictures: https://baldingblog.com/need-master-plan-think-hair-transplants-photos/ and see the need for a Personalized Master Plan that will not include a hair transplant until you are at least 25. This is clear because your balding will change and if you use us your donor hair now, then you might end up without enough to follow your future balding pattern.

20 Year Old Thinning Heavily After Stopping Propecia

Hello Dr Rassman,

I am a 20 year old male and have had some hair thinning in the front for about half a year.. I started propecia and stayed on it for a about a month, my hair thinned out even more and side effects were not worth it. Now 2 months after stopping treatment my hair is shedding like crazy over 200 hairs a day and the hair feels brittle all over my head. I searched through your blog but havn’t seen anything about this issue in my age range. thanks

My blog is full of recommendations to get yourself diagnosed. You need to have your hair mapped out for miniaturization, as I have said 1000 times before (perhaps even more than that). If you do not know what is wrong with you, how can you treat it? The miniaturization map tells what is going on and that comes about before you treat it.

20 Year Old Just Had a Hair Transplant to Cover a Scar

Hello Doctor,
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I find your site highly informative and at times humorous. I’m a 20 year old student; recently I had a hair transplant (around
1000 grafts) at the back of my head to cover an old scar. Judging by my close relatives, I will not inherit hereditary baldness.

It has been four months since the transplant and the grafts are growing quite well. However I have fairly long hair and the growth is slower than I would like. Could I use minoxidl to boost the growth rate? Also can you please explain the initial loss of hair that occurs with minoxidil usage, what causes it?

Once again thank you for reading this.

I am pleased that you enjoy reading my blog and that your hair transplant went well. However there is not much you can do in accelerating hair growth. Rogaine / minoxidil will not boost the growth rate. As you are only 4 months from surgery, I would expect more growth over the next 3-4 months, so be patient.

With respect to the hair loss that sometimes occurs with the use of minoxidil, it is believed that the hair loss occurs from the “resetting” of the hair cycle.

20 year-old had a hair transplant and then lost a lot of hair

Hello I am 20 years-old and I had a hair transplant nine days ago. Today when I combed my hair I saw a lot of hairs I mean a lot. Is this normal? I mean there were not only hair from the recipient or donor area but from all over the head…plz help me is this shock loss or what? ps: my hair transplant was very small I had 500 grafts, 250 on the right temple 250 on the left

You should never have had a hair transplant at 20 years-old as that is, in my opinion, malpractice on the doctor’s part. He cared more about your money than you. A 20 year-old will certainly lose hair after a hair transplant. The key is to go on the drug Finasteride and see a lawyer. You can use me as an expert witness in this case.

What do I do, How do I start?

You need a good doctor and anything short of an experienced doctor to help you manage your hair loss is a mistake you will take with you every year you get older. Regrets are when you don’t do the right thing and lose your hairy look when maybe you don’t have to. At your age, your’e in trouble as anyone can see. With this much hair loss at your age, you may be heading to a very bald man. Have you thought about it?

20 Month Old With Possible Alopecia

I have a 20 month old who I am suspecting may have alopecia. Can you recommend a physician in the Chicago area who sees children and specializes in alopecia? Thank you for your time.

Look to the ISHRS website for a hair specialist, or even the American Academy of Dermatology for a listing. Best for you to consult your pediatrician as there are many causes of balding in young children that he/she should be able to treat and if necessary, make an appropriate referral to a competent specialist in the field.
