2 days after 1534 FUE grafts (photos)

Take a careful look at the donor area as it is almost healed in just two days. That is because we use small instruments that facilitate fast healing. The recipient area is also clean of crusts which means that he will look completely normal possibly as early as the third day after FUE. People always want to know when they can go to work or when they will look normal. We always ask that they plan for one week but many times it is faster. The best part of our FUE procedure is that there is almost no pain after the surgery.

1mg vs 5mg Finasteride for Hair Growth

Has there been any studies that have shown any increased hair growth taking proscar 5mg daily vs propecia 1 mg daily.

The 1mg dose is just as good as the 5mg dose for treating hair loss. This was determined when the drug company (Merck) did effectiveness testing. I am sure you can get it from the FDA. For urological problems, the 5mg dose is more effective. The question is really about how much finasteride binds to the hair follicles themselves. We know for prostate problems, that there is different binding dynamics than with hair follicles. I am not familiar with any study that directly compares the 5mg dose to the 1mg dose, but I would suspect that like any bell curve, the 1mg recommendation applies to those individuals in the center of the bell curve and that some people most certainly would be better with a higher dose, possibly worth trying if the 1mg dose is not adequate to meet the needs of the patient’s problem. See Pattern-Baldness.com for more.

19m already on dutasteride for over a year and starting oral minox soon.

You can see my progress on dut in my other post. Visited a dermatologist who prescribed me 2.5mg oral minox (perks of living in los angeles is that doctors take cosmetic concerns seriously) . will be taking it everyday, monitoring blood pressure weekly. Made this post because there isnt much info on oral minox on the internet. I will continue to update you guys in the coming months.
The dose you are on is a bit high with a high risk of complications. Half the dose is better, so speak with your doctor. Taking both drugs at the same time may help some people as the mode of action between the two drugs are different.

19 years old with Trichotillimania

I’m young (19) and had perfect hair growing up. However, I have had trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) develop in my teens (symptom of OCD) and now I’ve lost a lot of my hair. It’s concealable but I plan on maybe getting a transplant (FUE?) done at some point as I grow older since I’ve beat my disorder and now am regrowing my hair. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what to do or results they got from a transplant ? Thank you.

My extensive experience with Trichotillomania is that most people really don’t quit and transplants just enter the cycle again with recurrence. You must build a relationship with a doctor like me in your area over time so that this problem can be eventually transplanted once you know for sure that the primary problem is solved.

I Am 19 Years Old And I Am Balding Like My Norwood 5 Father.

I’m 19 and play college football. My Dad experienced hair loss around my age and was a Norwood V by the time he was 30. His hairloss was gradual and then slowed way down.

I have a lot of stress right now because of playing football and tough academics and I broke up with my gf. It seems this is accelerating some of it. But, I try to calm myself down. What would you recommend me trying to take for now? I will get a transplant or something later after I play college. I just need to get through another 4 years!
Thanks in advance.

As you are finding out hair loss is genetic. In general many men who have the trait of Norwood 5/6/7 patterns will have the pattern show in their 20’s. It does slow down in their 30/40s.

If you want a medical treatment, you need to see a doctor to explore your options such as taking Propecia or Rogaine. It is the only two medication that work. Shampoos, vitamins, and products you may find on the Internet despite the great advertising persuasion, does not work to stop or regrow hair. At best it may be “good” for your hair in terms of keeping the hair’s shine and body.

Other options would be simply shaving! Bald is beautiful (or handsome)… as they say.

19 Year Old Stressing Over School, Thinning at Hairline

I’m 19 and a freshman in college. I’ve been stressed these last two semesters over grades and other things and I noticed in January that my hair was thinning at the hairline on both sides. There are people in my family who are losing hair, but their hair loss didn’t even begin until they were in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and it’s still not bad. I just wanted to know if this is likely from the stress or if it’s genetic since it’s forming in the male pattern baldness form. The hair loss is giving me even more stress and I don’t know what to do. I’m thinking about using propecia.

While emotional or physical stress may be a factor in hair loss, you may also have a component of genetic hair loss. There is no way for me to tell you or diagnose your condition via the internet. You need to see a doctor for a good diagnosis and a miniaturization study to see if there is a pattern (such as male pattern hair loss) to your hair loss problem. The good news is that if you have genetic balding, the drug Propecia (finasteride) can slow or stop it in a reasonable percentage of young men. At your age, clearly you need a Master Plan for your hair loss process.

19 Year Old, Parent Told Him He Is Not Balding, but He Is According to Haircheck!

This is a 19 year old who has been told by everyone in the family that he is not balding. He has coarse hair and is as curly as it gets, so this could hide any balding from the naked eye. We performed a HAIRCHECK and he was right, he has lost 1/3rd of his hair volume in the crown. From these pictures, it is easy to see why no one believed him, but he knew and I confirmed it today. He elected to take finasteride to treat what he now knows is balding.
