I want to know if you have a method of transplant that will give me chest hair…I saw a program in NY while visiting that says there is a new way of doing this through transplant…
You can transplant head hair to the chest, but it will grow long, so it will have to be clipped. FUE or strip harvesting methods will work. We have done many pubic hair transplants in people who just did not have enough of it and it works very nicely.

There is no real age that hair loss is guaranteed to start by, so I can only talk averages. Most men who are going to be very bald, will be there before they get out of their 20s, and often see considerable thinning in their early 20s with considerable miniaturization through the areas that are going to be bald. It is this miniaturization pattern that suggests the final pattern, but in some people, the process is delayed into their 30s. Most men are finished with the large part of the balding process by the time they are in their 40s, but on rare occasions, a few may start at this late age (less than 5% of all men start balding late in life).
I have been on Dilantin (phenytoin) tablets for a long time since a seizure following neurocisticircossis ten years ago. I don’t have any problem now but have not stopped the medicine yet. The doctor said you can stop it, but to avoid the risk of a seizure you may continue with one tablet (100mg) a day. Of late, I have been losing hair. I noticed it when I started losing facial hair. My moustache and the hair on the left part of my chest had started greying early, ie. some 8 years ago. I am now 43.
Could Dilantin be the reason for the hair loss? How can I prevent it?
Hair loss has been reported as rare side effect of Dilantin. Because of the infrequency of this side effect, it is warranted to consider more common possibilities such as male or female pattern baldness before blaming the hair loss on medication. The other important factors that should be considered before making the diagnosis are: family history of baldness and miniaturization status of your hair. You need to be evaluated by a good hair specialist before coming to the conclusion of stopping your medication because of its possible side effect. People on Dilantin need to get their priorities straight if they are losing hair possibly from their medication and get advice from the doctor prescribing it.
33 yr old female. At the beginning of April 2007 I noticed app a 1-inch area to the left of my part that had lost hair. Completly and it has a red tint to the scalp. The only thing I can remember causing this would be sleeping against a corner of a wall for a period of time. My doctor seems to think it is nerve damage and says it most likely won’t grow back. Do you find this to be true and what would cause the redness? Thank you for your help.
There is no way for me to give you an opinion without seeing you. I have never heard of nerve damage causing hair loss.

I really do not know of benefits that are claimed on the internet. We are all wanting some magic cure to our balding problem but as I have said over and over again: this is a buyer beware market.
This patient is a full Class 7 pattern of balding who has kept the forelock for his 60+ years. Recently, he started to lose the frontal hair, worse in the corners. He was happy with the man he watched in the mirror every day, up until he started to lose his hair. I thought that I would share his appearance with you. This is clearly an unusual genetic variation of the Class 7 balding pattern. He has had no hair restoration work.

I’ve looked ALL over the ‘ net for the answer to ONE simple question: How many hairs a day does a man lose from his beard? I know it’s 50 to 100 for the HEAD — What about the beard, assuming you have a thick one, ( and I do ). Thanks.
I do not have a definite answer to your question, but lets try to examine your question scientifically:
So I would guess that we lose a range of 0 to 20 beard hair a day.

According to Phase II FDA trials of Dutasteride as a treatment for hair loss, inhibition of scalp DHT was superior to that of finasteride, but it also caused levels of scalp testosterone to skyrocket. To quote:
“Scalp Testosterone rose 24% for Finasteride, 46% for 0.05mg Dutasteride, 44% for 0.1mg Dutasteride, 104% for 0.5mg Dutasteride, and 154% for 2.5mg Dutasteride.”
What are the implications, if any, for this huge increase in scalp testosterone? Is testosterone injurious to hair in the same way that DHT is? Does it affect it in some other way?
The offending hormone is DHT, not testosterone. I do not know the implications, but from a practical level, dutasteride seems to work better by the experience of some doctors who have been using it for years. In reality, however, until the FDA study is complete, we really will not know (scientifically) for sure.

You say that doctors in Australia have told you of “significant failures” in the hands of Dr. Woods. Could you elaborate on the nature and extent of these failures? Who are the doctors? – I would like to talk to them.
You also said that you have seen some of Dr. Woods’ patients, and that he creates larger recipient site wounds than you. Are these wounds something I should be concerned about – or do they heal? I’m 37 years old and live in Australia, which makes Dr Woods the easiest choice for me – but I am NOT willing to compromise. If his approach is flawed, I will travel to the US.
I have seen many impressive images of Dr. Woods’ work on the Internet. The only criticism I have found is on your website. I do, however, take your views very seriously. If Dr Woods’ failures are not appearing on the Internet, perhaps because of patient embarrassment, I want to know about it before I make a terrible decision. I agree that Dr Woods’ secrecy is not in the best interest of the public – and that it is inconsistent with the advancement of medical science. Please help me make the right decision on this most serious issue.

It is best to visit local doctors who are known in this field and ask them directly. This site is for general information only. Ask Dr. Woods to meet a few of his patients and then look at the donor scars yourself. I have always had patients willing to meet people like you to help build their confidence in what I do. In my practice, I am open to such inspections. Secrecy surrounding Dr. Woods and his technique/results makes an analysis difficult.
