Can I Reverse the 4400 Grafts I Had Done?

I had 4,400 grafts done, and I am terribly scarred with cobblestoning of my skin. I have a heavily scarred recipient and donor area. Can this be reversed?

Unfortunately, the answer here is no. Reversing 4,400 grafts would be an enormous challenge, and it would take far longer to try to reverse it than having it done in the first place. Scalp Micropigmentation may be your only option, but I would have to see you to understand the deformities you are asking about. We have performed Scalp MicroPigmentation in many people with similar problems as you have described, and it works very well (see here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/scar-covering/)

Can Rogaine Cause Impotence and ED?

I have a question about taking Rogaine. I read a lot of people saying that when they took topical Rogaine that they noticed soft erections and impotence. Is this possible and do you hear a lot of people reporting this? thanks

I personally never heard of this from any of my patients. Moreover, I do not believe erectile dysfunction or impotence is a side effect of Rogaine (minoxidil).

Can Rogaine Regrow Hair from Traction Alopecia?

As rogaine is intended for hair regrowth and not to combat hair loss, can it be effective on regrowing hair lost from anything other than male pattern baldness, i.e. traction alopecia, or even a mature hairline?

I wouldn’t expect Rogaine (minoxidil) to regrow either frontal hairlines or hair loss caused by traction alopecia. It’s possible that it could cause hair growth in areas where there wasn’t significant hair previously, though.

Can Propecia Stunt Growth?

Can Propecia taken by mid-teen guys stunt height growth?

There are some teenagers who take Propecia (finasteride) under the care of their doctors, but it is generally not prescribed to teenagers. The effects of finasteride on developing teens is not clear and should probably not be used in those who are still in growth mode (usually under 17-18 years old). It is theoretically possible that it may stunt growth during the puberty years, as it interferes with testosterone conversion into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is one of the many hormones that is involved with secondary sex characteristics such as beard, chest, and pubic hair.

Can Rogaine or Propecia Change Hair Character?

Hello, Dr. Rassman…

I am curious about Propecia and/or Rogaine. Do these medications change the CHARACTER of your hair over time? In other words, do they make for healthier hair in general? You know, thicker, fuller, more lustrous? I have noticed as I have entered my early 40’s that my hair seems to be finer and drier than it used to be. I typically use product to add some lustre to it. Do thees medications help in that regard, or do they basically “freeze” the hair loss and the character of the hair remains the same?

Thanks so much for your time!

Propecia works on the miniaturized hairs, thickening them. That will change the character of the hair, making it look more like it did before the impact of genetic balding that caused the miniaturization in the first place. Many people who take Rogaine report similar results. This is all good.

Can Scars Be “Cured” with FUE?

Can scars be cured with FUEs?

I do not like your use of the word ‘cured’. FUE (Follicular Unit Extractions) can be used to fill in scars found in the scalp, eyebrow or beard. The more that are placed and the closer they match the surrounding hair, the more they will cover a scar. Scars do have a different vasculature than normal skin, so at times we must reduce the densities of scars to get the best growth.

Can I scratch off the crusts from my donor area?

scratching runs a risk of breaking the skin and causing infections. The medications HPR + HydroGel work well for itching and you can get the reference from your doctor

Can Stopping Proscar Bring on Side Effects?

I have been taking proscar for hair loss for about 12 years and recently read a disturbing article in Mens Health regarding side effects. Has new long term evidence emerged that shows greater risks? Can stopping the use of Proscar actually bring on side effects?

We are being overwhelmed with negative information that is out of proportion to the reality of the actual numbers of side effect and the statistics that go with that information. Are you willing to take the chance on reversing the hair benefits that stopping the medication will bring about? Any benefits, even reduced prostate problems, will reverse if you stop the medication.

Can I have a second hair transplant to increase my density? I had 5000 grafts in the first hair transplant. (photo)

If you had 5000 grafts in the first hair transplant, it may have depleted your donor area. You should have your doctor check this out or you could be bald in the back of your head. Another procedure depends upon your donor density today.
