I Am 2 Weeks After 2500 FUE Grafts, What Is This Growing out of My Head? (Photo)

These are the remnants of the scabs (crusts) that you did not wash off. They are now filling up with water and are elevated. They should easily wash off with a good shampoo and gentle rubbing with your fingertips. I never see this problem in our patients because we wash off the crusts the day of and the day after the surgery so that they never form.

2 days after 1534 FUE grafts (photos)

Take a careful look at the donor area as it is almost healed in just two days. That is because we use small instruments that facilitate fast healing. The recipient area is also clean of crusts which means that he will look completely normal possibly as early as the third day after FUE. People always want to know when they can go to work or when they will look normal. We always ask that they plan for one week but many times it is faster. The best part of our FUE procedure is that there is almost no pain after the surgery.

This young man is an excellent finasteride responder and should continue on this drug for the rest of his life. If he stops it, he will lose all that he gained.

2 Weeks After My 2800+ Graft Surgery, I Had Massive Shock Loss

hi, two weeks after a surgery with dr. rahal of 2846 grafts (888 1 hair, 1526 2-hairs, 429 3-hairs, and 3 4-hairs), i experienced a massive shock loss. it has been one month post surgery and i am very worried about even going to my original look, which at this point i would be happy with. i only take minoxidil, because of the side effects of finasteride.

do you see a lot of this shock loss from the pics as being temporary, because although i am thinning, i am not an entirely diffuse thinner, but lost everything. at this point would total of the 5239 hairs even be enough to fill in what i have lost? i should also note that the hairs that are remaining are ones from a previous surgery with ziering that was supposed to be around 2300 grafts, but i am not even entirely sure about his work.

thank you so much for your help and suggestions, greatly appreciated!

It is difficult to make many comments about your exact situation, because the before picture and the change in your hair length are confusing your situation. I will assume that you are young (under 30 years old). Were you afraid of possible side effects from finasteride, or did you actually experience them? Shock loss is common in young men after a hair transplant, unless the young man is protected with Propecia (finasteride). Prior to the appearance of this drug on the market, shock loss was a common problem for hair transplant surgeons. Since the use of finasteride, this type of report is relatively uncommon.

Shock loss usually appears in the first three months after a surgery, when it happens. I do not believe that the size (# of grafts) is related to the shock loss, as a hair transplant of any size can do it. Shock loss reflects your genetic timelines and often accelerates the timelines 1-3 years.

2 Weeks After Using Hair Dye, My Hair Is Falling Out!

I’m a 28 year old female who has always had very long, thick and strong hair. I’ve dyed it for YEARS. Now, suddenly, my hair is falling out and baldness is not found on the woman’s side of my family. After I brush and after I wash I can literally pull out the hair by the handful. It’s scaring me to death. I dyed my hair about 5 weeks ago, and 3 weeks ago is when I began to notice this. Could it be connected? My scalp didn’t feel burned or hurt, so origially didn’t think it could be related to the coloring. However, I at a loss and I’m loosing my cool. Please help! Thanks so much.

It is normal to lose 100 hairs a day. You might consider stopping the hair coloring process to try to surround what is happening. That being said, I am sure you are noticing more hair falling out than what you are used to. It may be a phase or it may be a sign of a medical illness or a genetic balding process. Genetic balding does not necessary mean that your mother or father were balding. Hair loss in women can sometimes be caused by underlying medical conditions, so it is important for you to be evaluated by your own physician before we proceed. If clinically appropriate, the following disease processes should be considered: anemia, thyroid disease, connective tissue disease, gynecological conditions and emotional stress. It is also important to review the use of medications that can cause hair loss, such as oral contraceptives, beta-blockers, Vitamin A, thyroid drugs, coumadin and prednisone. The following laboratory tests are often useful if underlying problems are suspected: Estradiol, FSH, LH, SHBG, Prolactin, T4, TSH, ANA, Iron, TIBC, Ferritin, Free and Total Testosterone. You may benefit from a miniaturization study to examine your hair under a hair densitometer to document the health of your hair.

2 years on finasteride in young man in early 20s

Men always worry about hair loss and young men are hung up on the 3-4% risk of sexual side effects of the drug finasteride; but form time to time we see the huge impact of this drug on hair loss reversal in young men as shown in this photos of a young man on the drug for 2 years. Many doctors are now not prescribing this drug for fear of being involved in the Class Action law suits brought by men who are suing the drug company Merck as they fell that they are part of the 3-4% of those with sexual side effects. Nevertheless, here are the pictures I am referring to.

20 Year Old Just Had a Hair Transplant to Cover a Scar

Hello Doctor,
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I find your site highly informative and at times humorous. I’m a 20 year old student; recently I had a hair transplant (around
1000 grafts) at the back of my head to cover an old scar. Judging by my close relatives, I will not inherit hereditary baldness.

It has been four months since the transplant and the grafts are growing quite well. However I have fairly long hair and the growth is slower than I would like. Could I use minoxidl to boost the growth rate? Also can you please explain the initial loss of hair that occurs with minoxidil usage, what causes it?

Once again thank you for reading this.

I am pleased that you enjoy reading my blog and that your hair transplant went well. However there is not much you can do in accelerating hair growth. Rogaine / minoxidil will not boost the growth rate. As you are only 4 months from surgery, I would expect more growth over the next 3-4 months, so be patient.

With respect to the hair loss that sometimes occurs with the use of minoxidil, it is believed that the hair loss occurs from the “resetting” of the hair cycle.

20 Year Old Thinning Heavily After Stopping Propecia

Hello Dr Rassman,

I am a 20 year old male and have had some hair thinning in the front for about half a year.. I started propecia and stayed on it for a about a month, my hair thinned out even more and side effects were not worth it. Now 2 months after stopping treatment my hair is shedding like crazy over 200 hairs a day and the hair feels brittle all over my head. I searched through your blog but havn’t seen anything about this issue in my age range. thanks

My blog is full of recommendations to get yourself diagnosed. You need to have your hair mapped out for miniaturization, as I have said 1000 times before (perhaps even more than that). If you do not know what is wrong with you, how can you treat it? The miniaturization map tells what is going on and that comes about before you treat it.
