I Need to Look Good For a Wedding in 6 Weeks – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I know you’ve mentioned several times that it’s redundant using Regaine while on Propecia, but i’ve only started taking Propecia and I need to look good for a wedding in 6 weeks, while Propecia won’t kick in for at least 3+ months. Would it be worth taking both until the wedding then go back to just using Propecia?

You can not dictate timelines to your hair. Six weeks may be far too short a period to expect changes. Think more like many months and even up to a year or two to get the benefits of Propecia or minoxidil.

The flap can be reversed, but the scarring is high and it may not answer your needs. There are many ways to manage such a flap. See an expert and be careful that you do not make another mistake. You don’t want to go down a one way street the wrong way.

(female) I have lost over half my right eye lashes and I am continuing to lose more. In the last few days, my left eye lashes have begun to fall out. I have asked my family physican and he says it’s “just one of those things”. I just want to know if it is or if there is some treatment for it.

Do you have a history of plucking your eyelashes and if so, are you doing it now? If you lose localized hair anywhere on your body, it may be a sign of an autoimmune process and it may not be a healthy process. Do you have hair loss elsewhere? Is there miniaturization of the hair on the scalp indicative of a more general hair problem than you are observing now? You should watch it carefully, look carefully at the rest of your hair and scalp and if it extends or is present elsewhere, then a good dermatologist may be a good next step.

Proscar Has Gone Generic in the US – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dr. Rassman,

It says here that Proscar has gone generic. Do you believe it, and what does it mean to american customers of Finasteride? I am particularly confused about the 180 days bit? Does it mean that generics of proscar will only be available for a 180 day window.

Yes, Proscar (brand name of 5mg finasteride) has gone generic. Propecia (brand name of 1mg finasteride) is still not available in the generic form in the US. Some patients take Proscar and break the pill in 1/5 or 1/4 in place of Propecia because it costs less. This does not mean Proscar is available without a prescription in the US, but it now that it is to be available in the generic form, it should cost even less to take finasteride in 1mg doses (as long as you break the pill).

Stomach Acid Destroys Cut Proscar Tablets? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Can stomach acid destroy finasteride in Proscar tablets that were cut in fourths? I heard the coating of some drugs is supposed to get them to the small intestine, where the pH is 6.5 and they are absorbed.

I do not have direct knowledge of this. It would be best to take the drug at the prescribed 1 mg dose (Propecia) rather than cutting the 5mg dose, but many people who switch from the 1mg dose to the 5mg dose (cutting the tablet into quarters) tell me that they get the same benefits. I would doubt that the acid would react differently with the intact 1mg Propecia and the cut sections of the 5mg tablet, but I do not know for sure. So just to be clear, my answer is just speculation based on what I have been told by users of finasteride.

Will FUE Procedure Limit My Donor Site? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dear Dr. Rassman,

I am considering having a transplant procedure at your clinic. My preference would be to have the fox procedure since I would like the option of a very short haircut and am very physically active…. swimming, etc. and want the least amount of scar detection.
My question is this: Will having a fox procedure possibly limit my donor site options years down the line when I may need to come back to fill in other areas?

Everyone has a limited donor bank of hair and FUE will deplete that donor bank just like strip harvesting will do. The question I’ve been asked a few times is: Will there be more donor area with FUE than with traditional strip harvesting? The simple answer is only a guess as no one to my knowledge has pushed the donor supply far enough to find out the answer to that question.
