By what age will I know my balding pattern?

This is a difficult question so i will try to guess relying on my 30 years in this business. Using a 70% probability (my opinion), by the age of 26 and using the HAIRCHECK instrument and trichoscopy you will know your final balding pattern, a 80% probability (my opinion), by the age of 30 and using the HAIRCHECK instrument and trichoscopy, you will know your final balding pattern, a 90-95% probability (my opinion), by the age of 35 and using the HAIRCHECK instrument and trichoscopy you will know your final balding pattern. A few men may be normal past 35 and still develop balding, but that may reflect less than 5% of men.

Bumps on beard grafts, why?

Why do so many people complain about bumps/skin discoloration after beard transplants? Is this an unavoidable side effect?

Bumps in the skin should not occur if the grafts are trimmed of most of its skin and placed flush with the surface of the recipient area?

Calling men “Bald” is Sexual Harassment in UK

Calling Men ‘Bald’ Counts as Sexual Harassment, UK Tribunal Rules – Bloomberg

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-05-12/calling-men-bald-at-work-counts-as-sexual-harassment-uk-judge

Rassman Opinion: I believe that the context of the use ‘Bald” is the main issue. If it is used as part of other derogatory smears, then it may be clearly used as part of some ‘harassment’. Many men use the ‘balding’ term as part of their conversations with me and I likewise, will use it in a medical or social context as part of my work and would not consider it sexual harassment when I ask a man for his family balding history. Men use it as well, often in conversation without mal-intent.

Burning on Scalp Months After Coloring Hair

Hi,
I;m really hoping you can help me. About 7 mths ago I had my hair coloured. Since then I have had a burning sensation on the right side of my head, my right ear and on the back of my neck. I have also noticed much more hair falling then I have seen before, my hair is starting to feel thinner and its scaring me to death.
I was very breifly examined by a dermatologist and she said it look like sebhorric dermatitis. I have used all the shampoos and the zinc spray she gave me and I still have no relief from the hair fall or the burning. I have no idea what to do. The top part of my scalp feels tender when I touch it. Is it possible I could be allergic to something in the shampoo? If you have any suggestions at all I would be so so greatful.
On a side note I have tried tea tree oil and the flakes seem to be almost gone, but still the burning and hair loss are there.
Please help

Since you started with a dermatologist, I would suggest that you go back. The symptoms you mentioned (burning on the right side of your head, ear and the back of your neck) could be a neurological problem. People who had hair coloring come to me with a wide variety of complaints that I often have difficulty relating to the hair coloring process. Sometimes the complaints are related to skin problem that are precipitated by the chemicals in the dying compounds used. Sometimes they may have nothing to do with the hair dying process or the chemicals used. Most professional stylists use commercially safe compounds.

The dermatologist can help you assess all of these issues.

Can a Dermaroller Damage Hair?

I am interested in using a dermaroller to enhance topical absorption. How long can the needles be before there is a risk of damaging the follicle and the surrounding vasculature?

We do not use or have experience with a dermaroller. I had one on my desk to play around with, but it never got use on the scalp, so I am the wrong person to ask about this one. I wrote about that years ago. It still looks painful.

In general, anything with a sharp point or a needle that you use on yourself (or others) should be sterile and used with caution. If there are readers out there that use this product, I’d be curious to know what you think about it.

Calculating Lifetime donor supply

My question is, how many grafts can the average Caucasian person get from their donor via FUE? I don’t mean in one session; I mean in total over their lifetime. I saw different answers in different blog posts, some said at the very least 6,000, others said about 7,000, and yet others said that most people would become depleted after 5,000.
Depletion is a matter of residual hair bulk. Hair density and thickness make up hair bulk, so the coarser-haired people can afford to have more grafts removed from the donor area. For coarse-haired Caucasians with a typical Caucasian density of 2.2 hairs.FU, 6000-7000 grafts are an easy lifetime hair target in such an individual, while on the other extreme of fine hair and low density, 1000-1500 grafts might be the lifetime donor supply. Higher original density changes the equation in favor of more graft potential regarding lifetime hair. Not so simple, and that is why you need an experienced surgeon to do this for you.

Why don’t more men get transplants?

Exampe, those who can afford to). Is there some downside that is not apparent, which is why people bother with minox and fin?

A hair transplant is a careful decision not to be taken lightly. I tell my patients to take their time, wait until they are at least 26 and have the funds put away. Develop a good Master Plan for the hair loss as it evolves as hair loss is generally progressive for some men so even a hair transplant may have to be repeated to keep your hair appears up.

Can a Hat Cause Hair Loss and Fungus?

Can you get fungus on your head from wearing a hat all the time for too long that results in your hair falling out?

A fungus spreads from person to person. A hat worn by a person with a fungus could transmit the fungus as the hat is shared with another. Fungal infections love warm, moist environments and if you sweat from the hat that is carrying a fungus, you may get it. Depending on the fungus, hair loss could result. These are all longshots, but they are possibilities.
