CB-03-01 Anti-Androgen — Is It a Future Hair Loss Treatment?

Hello, Doc. I found a study about a future topical antiandrogen that appears to fight baldness.

This is the link: Cosmo reports exciting results in P.O.C. alopecia study

Do you see this treatment as a potential option in a not so distant future?

Thanks for keeping us informed through this great blog.

CosmoIf you understand a basic fact about hair loss, it’s really quite simple: Blocking the impact of androgens at the hair level will favorably impact hair loss. It could be a promising direction, but at this time good data is not in hand, so an anti-androgen cream is not a proven solution for the hair loss problem.

The link you sent is for a press release from Cosmo Pharmaceuticals of Italy, which boasts “exciting results” to get readers interested, but in reality this is just announcing that a proof of concept trial has concluded for something called CB-03-01 on 40 men and 30 women over the course of a month.

The studies and products you and I find on the Internet are usually not new or groundbreaking, though they might sound promising. Both doctors and patients hope the next great hair loss treatment is right around the corner, but we will have to wait for good science to be presented to us before getting too excited about this as a future option. There’s a lot of hurdles it would need to cross before making it to market.

Celebrities w/ SMP

A couple of guys whom I am 100% certain have gotten SMP, stand-up comedians Finesse Mitchell and Paul Virzi. Both of whom I’ve seen live and (because I have SMP and know what to look for) the stage lights immediately gave it away. I bring this up because these guys both have an online presence where you can look them up and see their before and afters. Virzi looks like he’s gotten his done in the last 6-12 months. Both of their results look great in my opinion, and Virzi in particular looks so much younger (he also appears to have lost some weight) — he looks great.

We do these all of the time, see here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/bold-shaved-look/

CBD may be a finasteride substitute

From the recent issue of the Hair Transplant Forum and also an article in the recent issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, there is a report that CBD may work on preventing hair loss similarly effective but by a different action to Finasteride. There is no mechanism suggested for this finding at this time.

Apologies for the poor photo

CDC: Forty percent of cancers linked to overweight or obesity

“Being overweight or obese significantly increased the risk of developing at least 13 types of cancer, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Now that a larger proportion of the American population is overweight or obese, the rates of obesity-related cancers have increased. Between 2005 and 2014, the rate of obesity-related cancers, excluding colorectal cancer, increased by 7%. Over the same period, non–obesity-related cancers declined, according to C. Brooke Steele, DO, of the CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, and her associates” (source: Internal Medicine New, October 10, 2017)

Was This Caused by Traction Alopecia?

I would want to know more about you to give you more insights. If you are a female, then traction alopecia is a possible cause if you pulled your hair back tightly for many years.

Celexa and Lexapro Can Cause Hair Loss

My daughter is 38. Her hair began thinning when she was on Celexa. The doctor changed her to Lexapro, and now her hair is falling out by chunks. She is now almost bald in the frontal area of her head. She’s going off of the Lexapro in hopes of her hair growing back. I wanted to report the Forest Laboratories Lexapro to the FDA, but my daughter wants me to wait until she sees a difference in her hair loss or if it will grow back. She has spent a lot of money on hair regrowth products, doctor appointments, and even went to an endocrinologist. Nothing has helped. Please, everyone, get the word out. Report your hair loss issues to the FDA. This massive hair loss my daughter has sure not helped with depression/anxiety. I wish I could upload a photo.

Celexa and Lexapro can cause hair loss. Your daughter needs to have a sit-down with her doctor about the side effects she experienced.

Celiac Disease and Hair Loss

doctor,
you answer most topics, however I cannot find any information about CELIAC DISEASE and HAIRLOSS. It is scattered all over the web, however the link, to me, is not clear. I am 20. and have diffuse hairloss, my doctor told me to take omega 369 and jarodophillus. and to not drink beer, or eat wheat. is this good advice, considering the link between cleliac disease and hairloss?

Hair loss associated with celiac disease can be related to its link to alopecia areata, and can also be a result of the nutritional deficiency caused by the disease itself. The treatment for celiac disease is to remove gluten from your diet and to address the malnutrition caused by the disease. It sounds like your primary care physician is right on track with his recommendation for treatment. Once this has been addressed the question will be whether your hair loss was caused by alopecia areata, a nutritional deficiency, or both. A good source of information on this disease is the Celiac Disease Foundation. Good luck.

Celebrity Mature Hairlines Of Jim Cary, George W. Bush, Matthew Mcconaughey

Hi Doctor thanks for the great website. I’m currently still trying to pinpoint where the mature hairline exists.

Would you say the ex president George W. Bush, actor Matthew Mcconaughey (post wig/ transplant) and actor Jim Carrey have mature hairlines, this is of course without a personal examination by you. I’m sorry to ask you about celebrities but they are the only people I can really compare my hairline to without being creepy and staring at strangers hair.

I have seen in photos of Matthew Mcconaughey which showed a frontal balding pattern. Whatever he did, it reflects something that is difficult to analyze. Hollywood can create wonderful hairlines in movies and on TV that can completely obscure the absence of a hairline. Another possibility is a really bad photo that is not the most flattering. I actually met Matthew Mcconaughey in person and I can tell you he has not had a hair transplant. While I’ve never met the former president or Jim Cary, I would guess that neither of them had a hair transplant. Jim Cary has a Class 3 pattern on the Norwood scale.

Ronald Regan and Bill Clinton both had juvenile hair lines.

You can search my BaldingBlog (see upper right) for “juvenile hair line” to read about the numerous posts I’ve written. You can also look at this POST. Generally, it is easiest to see the highest crease on the forehead to determine if the hairline is mature or receding. That requires the cooperation of the person being photographed or can be seen if the person being photographed was excited enough to lift his eyebrows up.
