I am 22 and am thinning on the top, back and sides of the head

If you have thinning along the sides and back of your head as well as elsewhere (thinning on front and top), there is a condition we published called Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) which requires a doctor to make the diagnosis with a hand microscope showing miniaturization in the sides and back of the head hair. This is a difficult problem to treat and people like you who have DUPA are not candidates for hair transplantation.

26 years old and a Class 7 pattern now, why?

At 17, I was norwood 0 with a perfect hairline, however by the time I hit 22, I was around norwood 6/7 – around the age of 21 I started to razor shave my head and have done since (I’m nearly 26 now). Now I’m wondering whether my hairloss is considered aggressive and extreme or ‘normal’?

For many young men who inherited advanced balding (Class 7 pattern) find that they get there by the age of 26. That seems like you.

24 and worried about losing hair

I am 24 years old and I’ve been experiencing some hair loss for the last three or four years. I’ve noticed it when I shower I’ll end with about 30-40 hairs on my hands, and there will be about 10-20 others on the pillow when I wake up. I’m kinda worried about this since it didn’t happen before and I am not through a period major stress, I didn’t make any changes in my diet either. I will see a dermatologist as soon as possible but I don’t know if I should make a big deal about it or not, since I can run my hand through my dry hair or pull it and there won’t be any hairs on it afterwards.

Some extra info: my dad isn’t bald but has a receding hairline and started experiencing hair loss when he was about 40 or so. It is summer where I live, I add this because I understand hair loss can vary depending on the season.

You should see a good doctor and find out exactly how much hair you are losing with the HAIRCHECK test ( https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/ ). The point is to find out if you are really losing hair, how much you are losing and lost and what to do to stop it. This test establishes a metric on the loss so that in a year after you may have started treating it, you will know if you are gaining of losing ground.

27 Years Old and Considering a Hair Transplant

At your age, you might find that you could lose some of your existing native hair following the transplant. From the pictures, I see a low crown balding area which suggests that you might develop an advanced balding pattern in the long term. The use of the drug finasteride reduces this risk, but balding in men is progressive. Ask your doctor where your balding pattern might end up. Find out what your donor density is, so that some calculations of your reserve donor hair can be made now, before you start your transplants. Keep the hair transplants to the frontal area only, because if it goes into the crown, then you will be caught in a conundrum with patches of hair transplants in the front and in the crown will leaving you not normal looking. These steps will be the best approach to minimizing the risk of getting into multiple hair transplant surgeries as you lose more hair, which you should expect to happen. Your goal should be that just a single surgery will stand on its own and that is why I am suggesting that you only transplant the frontal area at this time.

Is it worth getting a HT? from tressless

I am 27 and have been using Propecia for 3 years but my crown is still thin. What can I do?

If the finasteride has not solved the problem by this time in your crown and you have some hair present you have three options.
1- Do nothing and live with it
2- Get a hair transplant which may solve the problem as that is what I did. My bald crown is now full looking
3- Get Scalp Micropigmentation which will make your thin crown look full as shown in this website photo below (click image to enlarge)

23 years old, losing ground after 2.5 years on fin and minox. Next steps?

Struggled with aggressive hair loss since 19. Started the Big 3 in August 2016, and was a great responder after the initial 3 months shedding. After 2 years of being a thick NW2.5, in August 2018, I had a relatively big shed and expected this to grow back, but it didn’t. Instead I’ve seen my hair gradually thin out to baseline, and in the last couple of months below baseline. I’m currently a NW3 diffuse thinner, scalp just becoming visible under direct light when my hair is dry.

Would really appreciate advice for my next steps. Would getting my DHT level tested confirm whether fin has lost its effectiveness? If so, can anyone testify for gradually phasing dut into my regime until it replaces fin? Apart from slight loss of libido, I haven’t experienced sides on fin, but I am still afraid of starting dut at such a young age given the increased risk of problems.

The single best way to understand what is happening to you, is to build a Master Plan with a good doctor who specializes in hair loss. That doctor should start by establishing a base line with a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-and-what-its-value/) , and then try various treatment modalities on your to find out what works bests. HAIRCHECK test follow-ups yearly tell how effective the treatments are. Eventually, some people can’t control the hair loss and end up as hair transplant candidates. A good doctor will not try to rush you into doing a hair transplant because he should treat you like one of his own ‘sons’- only recommending a hair transplant after you are 25 years old and have developed any significant balding.

22 Year Old Noticed Thinning in the Crown

I have been noticing my hair has been thinner around my crown for about 8 months. When I tell my parents they say they don’t notice until I point it out and no one else has pointed it out. However, when I take pictures, I can clearly see the area where my hair is thinner than the rest. My hairline is not receding, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to reverse the thinning before it’s to late. I have been using nizoral for about a month now.

The crown is often the place where genetic balding starts and it starts with thinning. You might want to see a doctor, get a diagnosis, and build a Master Plan for what your future hair loss will be. A HAIRCHECK test is a good idea as well to get a baseline to compare hairloss. Nizoral will not help you.

23 wanting a hair transplant

Should I get a HT ? Im 23 i used minoxidil for 2 years and did nothing just stopped the shedding so what you advice me to do ?

I am against surgery in someone your age because you might progress to a full Class 7 pattern and if you did, without careful planning, you might run out of donor hair. You need a personalized Master Plan for your hair loss with a good doctor who knows how to build one, see here:https://baldingblog.com/creating-a-personalized-master-plan-for-present-and-future-balding-photos/

When you have an advanced balding pattern as you do, transplanting the frontal half is a great starting point because the man in the mirror will look hairy. Make sure that your doctor and you discuss your residual donor supply to see if you can address the crown at a future time. I have written articles on transplanting men with advanced balding patterns when they don’t have the donor supply to meet their needs. If your surgeon follows my published articles, you can work your way to the back of your head, regardless of your donor supply. I like what you are doing!

28 Year Old Male with Hair Line Recession and Wants a Hair Transplant (Photo)

You should get a HAIRCHECK test to find out if there is any loss that you can’t see in the top and crown area of your head. You need to know there is the possibility that you might develop hair loss elsewhere. I call this a Master Plan which every male having a hair transplant should have. You look, on the surface, to be a great candidate, but if the HAIRCHECK test reveals hair loss behind the hairline, it is something you MUST know (See: https://baldingblog.com/value-haircheck-bulk-measurements-two-patients-seen-today/)
