im 18 years old and i have a bald spot since birth. i was wondering if anything could be done about it if so what . my mom told me the part of my hair was damaged because of where the doctor put the heart monitor.
It is highly probable that you could have hair transplanted into the bald spot. I would need to examine you or at the least see some good pictures of the bald spot with a ruler next to it so I can get perspective on the size of the area.

About 4 months ago my fiance had bought a pair of clippers at our local walmart so he could cut his own hair. (which he had done for many years) Well somehow in the middle if shaving the back of his head, the clippers pulled his hair and took a nice big chunk out of the back of his head. Ever since then there has been a bald spot a little bigger than a half dollar on the back of his head. The spot just won’t grow back! What can he do? Thanks..
Ouch! I assume by “chunk”, you mean a bit of scalp. If that’s the case and hair and skin came out, that is certainly not good. I have no way of knowing either way if it’ll grow back though, as I haven’t seen the wound (depth, size, etc). If it does not grow back, he may want to transplant hair it if it is large enough to be noticeable.
I am a male of age 33. I have lost hair in three patches at chin and at upper part of neck. The patches have grown a bit in size and looks threatening. I went to a couple of physicians, they called alopecia areata. Now I am being prescribed:
Candid Lotion
Minoxidyl
Nuforce 150 tabletsPlease suggest about this. I am losing my confidence everytime I see a mirror. Can I get out of it?
While surgery is never indicated for active alopecia areata, there are some doctors who specialize in this disease. See Alopecia Areata in a Patient with a Miracle Cure for details.

My son is 19 years old he had a spot the size of a half dollar on his head that went bald. after a few months the hair started growing back, but its real dark. His hair is Blonde.
Patchy spots of hair of a different color may be associated with a genetic predisposition or a mole or can be just normal. He may have had ring worm and the regrowth of the hair came in pigmented differently. You may want to have your son follow up with a dermatologist.
I was born in 1959 with a bald spot on the upper left scalp. It has never changed. My mother checked out a wig when I was a child, but that was no real solution. Never looked into it further. I part it to the right, and usually pull some back to cover it. At times, I do envy those who can just leave their hair without a fuss or worry about the wind separating it and having my bald spot showing, or having trendy haircuts and styles. I wish there was an easy way to have what’s left of my life without it. However, I keep hearing my mother’s words, saying “God made you special for a reason”. My final thought – embrace it… learn how to fix your hair to make you feel more comfortable, and if anyone is that critical, ignorant, or shallow over something you had no control over, they are not worth your time of day, people. Now that I have lost hair as I got older, it is harder to cover that bald spot. Can I get it fixed with a hair transplant?
For those who read this blog, hair transplants are commonly performed to fix these types of bald spots if they bother you very much.

About a month ago I noticed two spots of hair not growning on my face and then a week later another on my cheek. Now I have a small spot on the bad of my head missing hair also. My girlfriend thinks it’s because of stress. What do you think it is?
You need to see a good dermatologist. Amongst the things that the doctor will evaluate is the possibility of alopecia areata or ringworm (the two most common causes of what you are talking about). It is not reasonable to expect me to make a diagnosis over the internet from a few lines of description.

Hello doctor. I was wondering, are the genes for balding and hair ‘type’ independent? For example, if a bald person has straight hair as does their son, is their son at a higher risk of losing their hair since they have the same hair type. I guess this could be similar for curly hair too.
As far as I’m aware, hair characteristics and balding aren’t linked. For example, a son might have the same hair type as his father, but the son didn’t get the father’s balding pattern. There’s also nothing showing a link between hair color and baldness.
This 22 year old patient came to see me for hair loss she’s been experiencing for the past 2 years. She did all of the right things, saw two dermatologists, and received a complete medical work-up for a variety of disease entities and vitamin deficiencies and was found to be normal. What I told her is as follows:
The science is minimal that support this thesis, but it is better to try to block the androgens on women who are positive to the genetic test for androgen sensitivity than to put all women on the drugs.
In addition, as we could not offer her an immediate benefit with drugs, we used a concealer treatment on her hair and showed her how to do this herself. Her comment after the application of DermMatch was, “I have been reborn”.

I work in a school and recently met an 8th grade student, so 13 or 14 years old, who had very advanced male pattern baldness. It had clearly progressed in the male pattern, and he was somewhere around a Norwood 5 or 5A. There was a large bald circle on the crown, and what remained of the forelock was very thin. My question is: Is it possible for MPB to occur that early without the presence of a disorder, or does balding at such a young age reflect some underlying problem beyond the simple genetic predisposition for male pattern baldness?
Androgenic alopecia (AGA) or Male Pattern Balding (MPB) starts with puberty when the hormones change in the young man. In general most MPB starts around late high school/ early college years. I suppose a 14 year old going through puberty can have signs of MPB. I have seen 16 to 18 year old boys with complete Norwood 5/6 balding.
