Hair Loss and Vitamin D

My doctor told me that my hair loss was caused by Vitamin D deficiency a year ago. Since then I have been taking Vitamin D but the thinning hair I have did not get better.

A vitamin D deficiency can definitely cause hair loss. Treating it can stop the progression but it may not reverse it. You might have genetic hair loss as well and if you are a female you might have many other causes of hair loss which are discussed in this post from a previous baldingblog question posed back in 2009 which I outlined the approach a woman should do when they have hair loss: https://baldingblog.com/2009/03/13/woman-with-handfuls-of-hair-that-come-out-every-morning/

Why Does Hair Loss Start at the Temples or the Crown? (from Reddit)

Genetics dictate where the hair loss starts. No one understands why, but it is “observational”. It often starts at the hairline and in the crown then spreads from there according to your inherited pattern. Look at your family’s pattern (mother and father’s side) to see what might happen to you.

Hair Loss Started Again After a Couple Years on Propecia

Hello,
I have been taking Propecia now for about 2 1/2 years and believe it has slowed my hair loss down but has not stopped it. In the last 6 months I have noticed significant hair loss and thinning. What can I do? Also is Avodart or any other promising drugs soon to be approved to treat hair loss by the FDA? And if so when? Thank you for your time

Propecia does not show the same benefits forever. Every person will eventually lose the benefits of this drug, but the open question is when. Avodart might be more effective in people like you, but as you know, it is not FDA approved for use in treating hair loss. I couldn’t say when or if it will be approved for this, nor do I have any inside tips on upcoming drugs that are pending approval. There’s a lot of money to be made if a medication can be proven safe and effective, so I’m sure there are companies out there trying to find the next best treatment. I just don’t know who they are…

Hair Loss Treatments on “I Love Lucy” (Video)

I found this humorous clip from i love lucy where ricky thinks he’s going bald and lucy gives him a hair growing treatment. Very funny!

I love this. Thanks for sending it! This is a clip from season 1 of “I Love Lucy” that originally aired in 1952. There’s not much more I can add here, so just watch the video below and enjoy!

Hair Loss When Using Lamisil

I had hair loss as well when using Lamisil, did your hair grow back? Can anybody respond back to me if their hair after these of Terbinafine. Thank you very much.

Stop using the Lamisil if it caused hair loss. You may have developed an allergic reaction to it.

I am 27 years old. Can I transplant what you see here and how many grafts?

What I need is a frontal picture with your hair pulled back and your eyebrows lifted high so that your forehead creases. That shows me the anatomic points that allows me to determine the proper place of the hairline. Then your question can be answered. This picture suggests hair loss in the front as well as the large crown loss shown in the picture you supplied. You should send photos of the frontal area as well so that we don’t give you half an answer to your question.

Hair makes a difference (transplants 5 months growth – photo)

There is no doubt that a hair transplant puts hair on the balding head and does it in a timely and predictable manner, in this case in just 5 months. I would expect that more length and possibly more hair is yet to grow in this man. If you are over 25, it is a very good option.

Hair Loss with Bald Spot Above Ear

This is a follow-up to Hair Loss from Propecia:

Well i also moved a couple of months before this happened. Also about two months before i moved, i dyed my hair. So im wondering if this could be telogen effluvium? Ive dyed my hair alot in my lifetime and it has seemed to make it thinner but never any hairloss of the front. And if it did it grew back and I just didnt pay my hairline much atttention back then. My Mom’s dad was bald. But thats about it. My dad has a receding hairline but he is 57, and he still has plenty of hair and i dont think he will ever go complety bald. No one else in my family is bald. I also have an almost bald spot on the side of the right ear and my hair is thinner on the sides and the top than the back. I have no good hair doctor in my area so please help.

Please send me photographs. With a bald spot now above your ear, it is possible that you have other causes for your hair loss, rather than pure genetic causes with MPB. Singular bald spots may indicate a series of other etiologies, including infectious or autoimmune causes. Any good dermatologist can address this and even with pictures, there is no substitute for a direct examination by a doctor. Dermatologist are all over the US. See the American Academy of Dermatology to find a dermatologist in your area.
