I have been on minoxidil and finasteride for over a year and now am shedding very fast

Is there a way to tell the difference between a standard min/fin shed cycle and min/fin no longer being effective? I’ve lost a ton in the past 3-4 weeks after being on fin and min for over 14 months, and am terrified min/fin are no longer effective and that this shedding won’t stop.

If you have been on finasteride and minoxidil for 14 months are are now seeing shedding, you most likely are experiencing an acceleration of your balding. You might want to see your doctor and get an opinion. If you were my patient, I would have had a HAIRCHECK test done on you a year ago and would repeat the test to confirm new hair loss and to what degree. That is the value of the HAIRCHECK test when you start treatment.

I Have Been Unable to Sleep Well Since I Have Taken Finasteride over the past 2 Weeks

i have sleep disturbances with fin for nearly 2 weeks … usually i sleep ( 9-10 ) hours now … i woke up in the middle of the night and i sleep just 4 or 5 hours and can’t continue and feel sleepy throughout the day … is there any chance that side effect disappear by time ? because it affects me in my work and in my life generally …. if i took fin before sleeping could that help ? .. or just quitting is the only solution ? … i need to know your opinions because i can’t live like that !

Sleep disorders with finasteride are not reported. This could be psychological.

I Have Been Treated for MRSA and I’ve Lost 1/3rd of My Hair!

(female)
I have been treated for MRSA for over two years. The worst is on my scalp. This was not in the form of boils but big patches of infection containing pus and scabs. I have lost most of the top 1/3 of my hair leaving me with large patches of red skin. At present I have a two inch square of raw skin on top of my head. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

The best advice I can give is to seek medical help from your dermatologist.

You need to treat the MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) for obvious reasons, and since I’m not sure what your treatment path has been thus far or what your doctor has noted about your hair loss, I am not really in a position to provide much help. Your doctor can drain the infection or prescribe an antibiotic.

I have ben on finasteride for 6 months now and just started to note sexual side efect (ED). What can I do?

The sexual side effects from finasteride can appear at any time. It may be caused by the drug. See your doctor and discuss this with him. I generally tell my patients to reduce the dose to one pill every 4th day for 3 weeks, then one pill every 3 days for 3 weeks and then end up with one pill every two days and stay on the lower dose if that dose helps the side effects.

I have DUPA, but went to Turkey for a hair transplant anyway

If you really have DUPA, the chance that your hair transplant will fall far short of your expectation is close to 100% and the chance that you might lose it all is high. Any good doctor, who doesn’t care about the money and cares about you, will not do a hair transplant on any man with DUPA. In my opinion, it is malpractice.

I Have DUPA and Need a Specialist in Toronto

Dear Dr Rassman,

I just wanted to thank you for all the inspirational information you have provided for men and women that suffer from hair loss. I currently suffer from DUPA and I’m very concerned that I will not have the necessary donor hair in order to do a hair transplant.

I was wondering if you could let me know which doctors in the Toronto, Ontario Canada area provide miniaturization testing.

I have seen several dermatoloigists and transplant surgeons. However, my diagnosis from all of them have been a mixed bag: some say I suffer from telogen effluvium others say I have MPB. My blood work is normal. My hair loss is not just limited to the crown area but I am thinning from the sides and back of my hair severly at a tremendous pace!

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I just need a straight answer in order to make an informative decision in regards to the necessary treatment options for hair loss.

Thank you again for your exceptional work and in keeping members advised of hair loss treatment options.

The straight answer is that there is no cure for diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA), assuming that this is your correct diagnosis. I would recommend that you obtain a solid diagnosis of DUPA first (as it seems you may be self diagnosing this).

For a list of doctors in your area, you can try the physician search at ISHRS.org. I don’t have any personal recommendations in that area. Ask these doctors if they perform bulk analysis with the HairCheck instrument and miniaturization testing before you go and visit them.

I have diffuse thinning

I’m a diffuse thinner, and while my hair is paper thin, I technically don’t have a completely bald spot on my whole head. Does a thin hair mean there’s a chance it can be revitalized?

No. Thinning is not an easy diagnosis to make and it requires a trichoscope and an expert doctor to understand the cause and if there is an effective treatment for which a hair transplant is often not appropriate.
