Cole’s FIT and BHT Procedures

What are your opinions on the techniques and procedures of Dr. John Cole, such as his FIT procedures which he acknowledges was developed from your FUE. However, the FIT is allegedly an improvement. Also, what do think about his claims regarding Body Hair Transplants. I know you have made previous comments regarding BHT’s. However, I am asking specifically about Dr. Coles procedures regarding BHT.

FUE and FIT is exactly the same procedure, with some technique variations. There are a number of technical ways to do it and FIT is a proprietary brand name developed by Dr. Cole to show some unique identification for him. Body hair transplants are new with not much validation from other doctors. There are only a few patients with any history to the process and we do not know much about success rates in, let’s say, 100 patients overall. I am not surprised that they may work, but body hair is limited in numbers, usually growing as a single hair unit although there are some two-hair groups. The hair has a different character than scalp hair, but Dr. Cole’s claims have no real science with them, although I am not saying that it is not true, just not proven scientifically. I would not jump into it just yet. It is, in my opinion, still an experimental procedure.

Collection of victim photos from the internet of Over-harvested and depleted donor areas

I have collected a series of photos from the internet of victims from overly aggressive surgeons who don’t understand the limits of performing FUE and have depleted the donor area on this patients (https://newhair.com/resources/#tab-id-4). These men may have addressed their balding on the front, top and crown of their head, but they traded it off for balding in the back of their head. Balding in the back of the head can only come from an overly aggressive surgery so anyone that looks at them knows that they had a hair transplant because balding in the back of the head is not anything found in nature. It is man-made.

Combined oral and 0.1% topical finasteride for 11 months (photos)

They say a picture is worth 1000 words. Clearly finasteride has had a remarkable impact on this young man. The dose of topical finasteride was subsidized with the oral finasteride so it is difficult to tell which drug did the most for him. I will prescribe Topical finasteride 2.5% with 2% minoxidil in solution and this should be more predictable without the oral finasteride required. I hope what we are seeing is not the results of a darker photograph. Comparisons of photos should always be done with similar lighting conditions.

Coloring the Hair and Using Minoxidil, Can It Be Done Safely?

I am a female. My dermatologist recently told me that any kind of hair color should not be used when experiencing hair loss/thinning hair. I’m dealing with thinning hair on my crown and right side of my scalp. I’ve recently started using Rogaine and my derm advised I could use whatever shampoo I wanted, ( I was very surprised at this). I’ve been using semi-perm color on my hair for years and on occasion using perm color. All in the salon ?

Yes, hair coloring impacts the hair on top of your head. Genetic hair loss is below the scalp level so the two are unrelated. Don’t damage your hair with dyes, which can happen below the skin when it is used wrong.

Does combining finasteride and minoxidil work?

Combining finasteride and minoxidil is a good idea. You should get a HAIRCHECK instrument test to find out exactly what hair you are losing and how these drugs reverse the process. IF you are in Southern California, my first visit for this test is free

Combining Aminexil and Minoxidil?

Female, 29

I have been using Regaine for men, as suggested by my dermatologist, for almost two months. I have not seen any difference yet, but I am planning to continue using the product. My question is: Could I use L’Oreal Professionnel Aminexil Advanced in combination with Regaine for Men Minoxidil 5%? Are the two products/substances compatible? Thank you.

AminexilI don’t have much experience with Aminexil, as it is not available in the United States… but I’ve written about it previously. As I understand it, Aminexil and minoxidil work in similar ways. There’s no drug interactions between the two that I know of, and in fact, there are products that are sold which claim to combine the two treatments into one topical. I have no firsthand experience with that topical treatment either.

You’ve only been using the minoxidil for 2 months, so it’s not surprising to me that you haven’t seen a difference yet… but are you sure you want to start a concurrent treatment at this point before the minoxidil has had time to show benefits? Assuming you use both treatments at the same time, if you do start seeing results in a few months you won’t know which medication provided the most benefit. That scenario isn’t a concern for people that don’t mind using multiple products for life, but it’s something you should consider.

Combining finasteride and dutasteride

I’m about soon to reach two years of Finasteride (1.25 mg per day) usage. My hair loss has continued and I now have a diffused crown, which I did not have when I started the treatment.
I’m gonna reach out to my doctor and ask for a prescription of Dutasteride.
It would be great if someone with more experience than me could introduce me on how to add Dutasteride to my daily intake of Finasteride. Should I give up on Finasteride completely once I start taking Dutasteride? I was reading somewhere that a good start is to take Dutasteride once per week and then take Finasteride the rest of the week.

Let’s keep the discussion to just Finasteride and Dutasteride. I have used the 3-big, a lot of supplements, oils, thyroid function test, PRP etc etc. Nothing has really worked for me to stop the hair loss.

If you are going to take dustasteride, then there is no need for finasteride. Dutasteride does the same job as finasteride for hair loss. By doubling down, you are increasing the risks of all sorts of side effects

Combining Hairs transplant and hair system

This man built a frontal hairline with 2300 grafts and 1600 grafts on his temple peaks. He has since added another 2300 grafts to double up the density of his frontal area. The goal here is to use a hair system behind the hair transplant to cover his Class 7 pattern of hair loss. Hair systems can often be detected, but with a transplanted hairline in front of the hair system, it will not be easily seen. He, unfortunately, has fine hair. That is why it will take a lot of grafts to create a thick frontal hairline. If his hair was medium or, even better, coarse in character, he might have achieved his goals with far less grafting and with thicker-looking results. Fine hair has limitations, especially compared to a hair system. The photo on the right shows a hair system behind his leading-edge transplant with his hair pulled back. I have been involved in many such attempts; however, most of the men who started the process didn’t like the lower density of the transplant when compared to the hair system. That can be overcome with more transplanted hair in the frontal 1 inch.
