Great demonstration of a Maturing Hairline! (photos)

I rarely see a juvenile hairline in evolution as I did today. This 25 year old man saw a dermatologist last year for this problem and as the dermatologist didn’t understand what he was seeing, he put the man on finasteride to stop that is unstoppable, the evolution of a mature hairline. Unfortunately, this man developed sexual side effects, weight gain, more stress, a dropping testosterone and he didn’t feel good. That is bad medicine as far as I am concerned. Finasteride should never be prescribed for a maturing hairline.
The photos that he allowed me to used today have been labeled as follows: (1) shows where the rounded juvenile hairline still persists but it is clearly weak and disappearing, (2) shows where the juvenile hairline appeared on the left side, (3) shows the right side which is more advanced and the mature hairline is starting to appear, and (4) shows the patient with his eyebrows lifted high and his forehead wrinkles showing where the hairline originally was, slightly below the widow’s peak that he still has. Many of the Reddit readers have experienced this, so seeing it in such a dramatic presentation will help all of you understand what you are experiencing when your hairline matures. This is not BALDING and finasteride will have no impact on this process!

Great Hairline, Thin Top and Crown, Low on Donor Hair (with Photos)

This patient had 4608 grafts. As you can see from his photos below, the frontal area is great, but the top and crown are lightly covered. He lost much of the original hair in the top and crown from the balding process and as the transplant process was going on over a 10 year period in three sessions.

I am posting these photos to show that frontal hair can go a long way to making a balding man look fuller. We will still do one more surgery on him to fill in areas that need more density and then offer him Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) to finish the creation of the fullness he wants.

Gray Hair, Changing Diameter?

When hair turns gray, does the diameter change?

From my clinical experience I can tell you that the gray grafts appear thicker than the non-gray grafts. This is evident in the single hair grafts. Now that you sent me this question, I should measure the gray hair diameter and compare it with the non-gray hair diameter over the next few weeks and maybe get back to you with a small research study. Thanks for the great question!

Great results by sticking to the treatment (from Reddit.com)

My husband began balding at 24. He is epileptic and a switch to a different anticonvulsant exacerbated what doctors say is genetic hair loss. Within a year, he lost 50% of his hair. Because he lacked health insurance, his doctor refused to allow him off the medication. It was not until it stopped working that we again switched.

Although he stopped taking the medication, his hair never returned. It continued to shed in tremendous amounts. Along with it went his self-esteem and all the things he liked about himself. In June of 2018, we met with a dermatologist that suggested finasteride and Minoxidil 5%. The first photo is from then, when he first began taking 1 mg/day. It is still his current dose. In addition, he uses Kirkland Minoxidil twice a day and Nizoral shampoo three times a week. In addition, he does microneedling once a week. He sure has come a long way and I am proud of him.

Nothing like staying the course

Great Success Story in Balding Young Man Using Medications to Reverse His Hair Loss (from Reddit) with Photos!

Great story. When you start early with the approach you used (like prior to the age of 21), the likeliness of these types of results increase significantly. Many times, different hair forums focus on the worst problems that people experience and too few come forward to tell their positive stories, which I know are much more common than most people realize. Congratulations.

Great Video on What to Look for in Picking a Hair Transplant Doctor (From Reddit)

This is a great video which shows many photos of what to look for in patients, the doctors work and how they do it, the importance of the microscope in every FUE, etc.. The speaker had the worst hair transplant from the 1990s on his own head and had it fixed, but probably put the hairline a tad bit too high. He missed two important nuances of the FUE. (1) The skin of the FUE grafts is trimmed under the microscope. By trimming off most of the skin, the cobbling of the skin, something called cobblestonning (like the old streets which used bricks instead of pavement) produces small elevations of the graft at the point where the skin enters the scalp. (2) The grafts are always placed flush with the skin so that bumps never appear at the point where the grafts enter the scalp. Nevertheless, this is one of the best videos I have seen for evaluating a doctor.

Great results from taking finasteride and minoxidil (photo)

They say than pictures are worth 1000 words, Great results from using finasteride and minoxidil in combination. If he would have been transplanted, the hairline would be lower, halfway between were it is and the highest crease of his furrowed brow which he nicely shows.

Growing Bangs After a Hair Transplant?

Is it possible to style your hair with bangs after undergoing a hair transplant? In most “after” photos, the men dont have any bangs. Is this just because they want to show off the new hairline or does the new hair tend to not want to lay flat?

Hair normally grows forward, so bangs are not a problem. When I perform a hair transplant, I point the hair in the forward direction at an angle almost horizontal in the first 1/8th inch and then slowly lift the angle. This is the way all the hair grows in normal men and you can see it when you clip the hair short.
