Minoxidil on Eyebrows?

Hello Dr,
I used to have very thick eyebrows and due to over plucking for many years, one of them is incredibly sparse. I heard that using minoxidil daily will help to make them look fuller. My question is, are there any potential side effects? I have read online that using minoxidil can cause permanent hair on your forehead and face and other ghastly things, are these true? Also, if the treatment does work, will I have to continue using it forever? And is there a chance it will cause me to lose the hairs I currently have as well? Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated!

If you plucked your eyebrows and they are sparse, the hair missing from the overplucking probably will not return. Hair transplants work well to fill in the missing hair in the eyebrows.

Minoxidil will probably not help grow new hair at the eyebrows, but I suppose you can give it a shot. If it works, you will have to use it forever. Side effects would be the standard minoxidil risks found here.

There are other treatments available that may also be worth a shot, like a transparent gel with fibers to give the illusion of fullness, Latisse (the eyelash medication), and an eyebrow conditioner that may or may not do what it claims. Check out the write up at NY Times — After Overplucking, It’s Time to Call the Professionals.

minoxidil non-responders

If you’re a nonresponder to topical minoxidil, are you just clogging your follicles by applying it?

Your focus should be on switching to oral minoxidil as 40% of men are nonresponders to topical minoxidil. Clogging your follicles doesn’t happen.

Minoxidil On My Temples Causes Hair to Grow, But It Accelerates My Hairline Loss!

Dear Doctor,
Whenever I use Minoxidil on my temples (I’m 27 years old and a NW3) I see some small hairs on bald areas but it accelerates the thinning of my hairlines middle which currently is turned to a V shape. The longest I have used Minox on temples was 6 months in which time I had quite a few hairs on previous bald areas but thinned considerably the middle sections. Now after some months of not using Minox I have started using it for 1.5 month and again am seeing the same results which means shedding of the middle section and small hairs on temples.

What should I do? should I continue and ride the shedding or stop cause i dont think the shedded hairs are going to grow back?

I really appreciate your Opinion on this. Many Thanks In advance.

Minoxidil topical (Rogaine) does help regrow hairs on the top and crown areas of your head (it is not generally used for the frontal and middle hairline). Minoxidil takes anywhere from 6-12 months to notice change, so your results are not typical. The only way you could tell progress (positive or negative) would have been with good before photos, miniaturization mapping, and bulk documentation.

See a dermatologist. Some people experience short term shedding from minoxidil, but I can’t explain why it’s causing quick regrowth at your temples while simultaneously making the middle of your hairline thin.

Minoxidil producing hair elsewhere

Recently, i have to start shaving my mustache once every 3 days since the growth is much more noticeable and i have started growing a visible soul patch??? I don’t have a speck of hair for a beard and under my lips, so a soul patch is so off-putting when i saw it in the mirror. Also, i only apply the min on my scalp so its weird seeing growth on places other than the top of my head. I will just take these changes as a good sign!

It means that you are absorbing enough minoxidil in your body though the skin to produce hair elsewhere. When women use it and this happens, they get facial hair and body hair as well. maybe you are using too high a concentration of minoxidil?

Minoxidil Reborn?

I read about a compounded minoxidil solution called Formula 82M.

I have been using Minoxidil 5% for more than six years and I think I am losing the battle against baldness. Can the above solution give me much needed reinforcements?

Can you also please suggest any additives to minoxidil that can help in better hair growth?

Genetic hair loss has no cure. Topical minoxidil can help but there no scientific evidence that any additives or reformulations will help. Many compounding pharmacies and entrepreneurs will re-brand and add extra ingredients to promote a product. It works to generate interest and sales but it really has no clinical significance in overall improvement of growing hair. I always have states it is a buyer beware market. They may be no harm in trying different products other than the financial drain.

Minoxidil Response?

My situation is that I used minoxidil for 1.5 years, so imagine all that time I wasn’t a responder. Can it make my hair worse since I’m just applying alcohol all the time? I’m asking about my situation cause I have been on fin and min and my hair is worse.

If you used topical minoxidil, only 40% of men have the enzyme in their scalp to convert minoxidil to minoxidil sulfate, the active form of minoxidil; however, if you have taken it orally, 100% of men should get some response to the drug because the liver creates minoxidil sulfate, the active form of the drug. If you had no response to the oral, then you are not a minoxidil responder.
