Platelet Infusion Stem Cell PRP In Hair Growth

Dr Joe Greco of Greco Med Group Florida claiming 80% success rate with infusing growth factors from ones own platelets into the scalp to regenerate hair. Really 80%? How can doctors make claims like this? Any safe treatment that had an 80% success rate would be duplicated all over the world wouldn’t it?

Anyone can claim anything. It may be true. I do not know. I cannot verify the claim personally. If these treatments do work, you are likely correct in stating that these treatments would be duplicated and offered all over the world – especially because it is such an easy and inexpensive thing to do. By that I mean, in essence, someone takes a vial of your blood and spins it down in a centrifuge to separate out the PRP (platelet rich plasma) from the red blood cells and injects it back to your body part (scalp).

I do know many doctors advertise Platelet Rich Plasma PRP therapy and discuss it in terms of regenerative therapy or stem cell therapy which definitely catches the attention of many consumers.

I also know that there are many articles and journals that publish positive results of these types of therapy but I have not found one that is truly a well designed research that has been replicated. What I mean by a well designed research, is called a Double Blind Randomized Control Study.

When reports come out that you get an 80% improvement, what does that mean? An improvement of what? If we get 90% of the hair to grow without it, does that mean that we can get 98% of the hair from a hair transplant to grow instead of 90% with it? There has never been a study done that shows value. We would have no objection to using PRP and may even do so one day, but as I believe that if a doctor needs to get an 80% improvement of their results by using PRP, then they have a problem in their technique and I would doubt that PRP would help them solve such a deficiency. I have seen doctors inject PRP into the scalp of balding men and women, but they do not do this as a charity, they charge for it, and charge they do. If we start injecting PRP which would be a push, we would not charge for it unless we demonstrated real value.

Platelet Rich Plasma to Treat Hair Loss?

i have a question recently i have come in contact with this dr and i would like to know what you think about this new advance treatment.. https://doctorgreco.blogspot.com/

Aside from contributing to advertising the aforementioned site, my opinion are as follows…

The use of platelet rich plasma treatment, to my knowledge, is not FDA approved. Just making claims of hair growth would be a medical claim violation with the FDA. Publishing his results in the Hair Transplant Forum (which is not a peer reviewed journal) is not an endorsement of reputable editors in the academic community, so although it is a sharing forum format, it does not bring any credibility to his research. I would suspect that the claims in the website would be subject to actions by both the FDA (a few isolated cases are not an approved study) and the medical board in the state where the doctors who tried the treatment would be regulated. I am among the first to embrace new technologies, but I want to see science which shows safety and effectiveness… not hype. Human experimentation requires that special approvals be obtained through a hospital type facility under an institutional review board (IRB). What we are seeing on Dr. Greco’s site is not that!

Playing with finasteride dose without side effects

Thinking about doing 0.5MG 3 times a week. Would this be effective at removing some of the DHT from the scalp? I want to start using FIN but worried about the sides, so i wish to start gentle. Is there anything you can recommend that I do before starting FIN? I am going to ask for blood work done soon to measure my hormone levels.

You are not making sense to me. If you don’t have side effect, use the full dose of 1mg. If you develop side effect (a 4% risk at most), then you can play with a reduced dose.

Please help me. I went to a tattooist to get SMP and this is what he did

Many of my friends are asking me what I did to my head?

Unfortunately, SMP is an art form that takes a long time to learn, I have seen many such examples of SMP done by people who should not be doing it at all (sake a look at our website to see what it should look like here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com. You can go to a dermatologist who has a Q-Switch laser and have these removed to get you back to normal. Then if you are willing to get it done right, visit us.

Please compare minoxidil in the oral form and the pill form

There are two forms of minoxidil available on the market, one is the topical which comes in many strengths, the second is the pills which was originally used for the treatment of high blood pressure. The pill, which is rarely used for hair loss in the US and can bring down the blood pressure of the person taking it but is more effective at treating hair loss than the topical application of the drug. In some countries, minoxidil pills are used as the primary treatment for genetic hair loss.

Please help, I think my hairline suggests that I am going to be bald! (photo)

No, this is a very early maturing process that your hairline is undergoing. Most of your juvenile hairline is still present. If your hairline fully matures, it will take on a V-Shape. The hair you lost is just the corners which will eventually go up along with the center hairline. It is just the part of getting older and wiser.

Plugs to Bald (with Photos)

I hate my look. I answered an ad in the newspaper when I was in my early 20s and very depressed about losing my hair. It was not bad then, just starting to thin in the front. The doctor’s sales guy came in and did a job on me, telling me that it was on special and that he would give me 50 free grafts on top of the reduced price and I would never have to deal with the balding again. I scheduled for surgery done the next morning. This was 8 years ago and have hated myself ever since. I did not see how bad they looked until the hair fell out in the front, all within a few months of the surgery. Now I just want to become bald. Can I do it?

My astute readers will notice that this is the 3rd blog entry I’ve made in the past week relating to this very issue (see also: Alas, Bald Again and Years After Transplant, I Want To Shave My Head ), but it is very important to drive home the fact that hair transplants are forever. I know that these deforming surgeries are what most people think that a hair transplant is, but based upon what I see in these pictures, I would expect that you had this 15 or more years ago, not 8. This is malpractice today and I believe even so 8 years ago. The way the doctor unleashed the salesman on you was downright immoral and I would report that doctor, at the least, to the medical board of the state. In California, the medical board takes responsibility to protect consumers against such behavior.

I think that going backwards and becoming bald may not be your best choice, because even if each of these plugs were removed, the scalp skin would then show the individual scars from each excision and the reflection of any light in the room would show the deformity. I suspect that the situation can be improved as shown in these articles and this patient example (see Dean’s Story link below).

You need a good doctor working with you one-on-one who has the experience to address YOUR needs. This requires both a very experienced hair transplant surgeon, one with good communication skills, compassion, and understanding. Then the two of you can work out what your real options are. For those readers who are seeing this scary picture, don’t think that this is the standard of care (take a look at what is the standard of care today in our Photo Gallery).
