Bald Spot — Should I Wait it Out or See a Dermatologist?

Hi- I’ve recently noticed a bald spot above my right ear, which has little baby hairs still remaining in some parts. The spot is maybe an inch tall and 2 inches wide. I have been through stress the past two months, and have been experiencing variations with my emotions as well, sometimes, even more than usual. Should I go see a dermatologist or wait it out and see if my hair returns? I’m afraid that I will lose more hair and that would be worse than what I have now. I am 26 years old and a female. I recently moved to the northwest from the midwest and am beginning graduate school. I tried a new shampoo earlier this week and it could be a combination of things. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks,

Hair loss from above the ear may reflect a genetic problem. There are some types of hair loss that run in families and are found above the ear. Other conditions must also be considered such as Alopecia Areata. See a good dermatologist and rest your concerns.

I Have a Bald Spot Directly in the Middle of My Hairline. What Is It?

As the bald spot appears to still have some hair, it may be the beginning of early genetic balding. I recommend you see a doctor who can perform miniaturization studies in the hair around the bald spot. This will help determine if there is early miniaturization present.

Bald Spot Just Appeared on Back of My Head

I am a 21 year old Male who up until a few months ago had no problem with balding. I was getting my hair cut relativly short and my hair dresser noticied I had a bald spot on the back of me head about the size of a quarter. I kinda ignored it figuring it would grow back but it has been about 5 months now and my hair is longer but the bald spot is balder then bald and seems to be getting bigger according to other people (as I cannot see the back of my head). I was just wondering what the cause for this is and if it can be anything serious or just stress related possibly? Thank You very much.

Send me a photo of the spot you’re talking about so I can see what you’re referring to. At 21, you are relatively young for crown balding. I have some important questions for you:

  1. Is the spot in the center of the head where the swirl is located or is it off to the side?
  2. Is there still some hair present in this bald spot?
  3. Is there any balding or thinning any place else on your head?
  4. Do you have a family history of balding in the crown (back) of your head and if so, at what age did it happen?

A good doctor may be able to diagnose a possible cause, such as ringworm, alopecia areata, etc. There is not substitute to a good doctor’s examination for you. If this is genetic balding, you would want to get your hair mapped out for miniaturization as well as getting a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/) as genetic hair loss has patterns of thinning which appear before developing a bald spot. The HAIRCHECK test will tell us if you have any balding elsewhere that you can’t see.

This appears like Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease of the scalp. To be sure you should see a dermatologist and get an appropriate biopsy and treatment.

Bald Spot Since Birth

im 18 years old and i have a bald spot since birth. i was wondering if anything could be done about it if so what . my mom told me the part of my hair was damaged because of where the doctor put the heart monitor.

It is highly probable that you could have hair transplanted into the bald spot. I would need to examine you or at the least see some good pictures of the bald spot with a ruler next to it so I can get perspective on the size of the area.

Bald Spot Since Childhood, Now in My 50s

I was born in 1959 with a bald spot on the upper left scalp. It has never changed. My mother checked out a wig when I was a child, but that was no real solution. Never looked into it further. I part it to the right, and usually pull some back to cover it. At times, I do envy those who can just leave their hair without a fuss or worry about the wind separating it and having my bald spot showing, or having trendy haircuts and styles. I wish there was an easy way to have what’s left of my life without it. However, I keep hearing my mother’s words, saying “God made you special for a reason”. My final thought – embrace it… learn how to fix your hair to make you feel more comfortable, and if anyone is that critical, ignorant, or shallow over something you had no control over, they are not worth your time of day, people. Now that I have lost hair as I got older, it is harder to cover that bald spot. Can I get it fixed with a hair transplant?

For those who read this blog, hair transplants are commonly performed to fix these types of bald spots if they bother you very much.

Bald Spot Started Growing Dark Hair Amongst Blonde Hair!

My son is 19 years old he had a spot the size of a half dollar on his head that went bald. after a few months the hair started growing back, but its real dark. His hair is Blonde.

Patchy spots of hair of a different color may be associated with a genetic predisposition or a mole or can be just normal. He may have had ring worm and the regrowth of the hair came in pigmented differently. You may want to have your son follow up with a dermatologist.

Bald Spots Appearing on Face and Scalp Over the Past Month

About a month ago I noticed two spots of hair not growning on my face and then a week later another on my cheek. Now I have a small spot on the bad of my head missing hair also. My girlfriend thinks it’s because of stress. What do you think it is?

You need to see a good dermatologist. Amongst the things that the doctor will evaluate is the possibility of alopecia areata or ringworm (the two most common causes of what you are talking about). It is not reasonable to expect me to make a diagnosis over the internet from a few lines of description.

Bald Spots on the Sides of My Head Hurting My Self Esteem!

I am a 22 year old female that since i was 14 years old i have been having a bald spot on the side of my head, it use to be the size of a quarter and as time has gone by it has grown bigger, i have also started balding from the other side as well. i am very scared of having alocepia. i have not tried any medication like rogaine for women or have not gone to a dermatologist because i am embarrased of this problem because i am soo young to be worrying about balding. this balding issue has affected my self esteem. i just want to receive some sort of answer before facing a dermatologist. i sent some pics of my problem you can use them for your site just please make sure my face is blocked and i remain anonymous. thank you for your time

First off, thank you for give us permission to use your photographs. I like being able to offer visitors to this site a chance to see precisely what they’re reading about.

It appears that you have a condition called triangular alopecia. This is a genetic condition which can be treated with hair transplantation very successfully. There is no need to suffer as you are. I would be happy to see you for a consultation.

Balding 22 Year Old Woman (with Photos)

This 22 year old patient came to see me for hair loss she’s been experiencing for the past 2 years. She did all of the right things, saw two dermatologists, and received a complete medical work-up for a variety of disease entities and vitamin deficiencies and was found to be normal. What I told her is as follows:

  1. Obtain a new test for androgen sensitivity of her hair based upon a genetic test
  2. If she is sensitive to androgen, we might try her on an androgen blocker such as finasteride or dutasteride in the hope that this will block enough of the androgen to allow better hair growth.

The science is minimal that support this thesis, but it is better to try to block the androgens on women who are positive to the genetic test for androgen sensitivity than to put all women on the drugs.

In addition, as we could not offer her an immediate benefit with drugs, we used a concealer treatment on her hair and showed her how to do this herself. Her comment after the application of DermMatch was, “I have been reborn”.
