Can Miniaturization Be Reversed?

Dear Doctor,
If you have miniaturization developed in the past 6 months at a rapid pace is it possible to fully reverse it or maybe most part of it ? I Got onto propecia last month once my derm confirmed I have MPB. I am thinking of adding Minoxidil too to the regimen the logic being since the miniaturization/ slight halr loss too has been in the past 6 months Minox might help steer those hair follicles slipping away into complete dormancy. Is my thinking right ? or will propecia and something like a 2% nizoral shampoo be enough to do the job/revive thoseminiaturized follicles ?. My miniaturization is mostly on the top and my hairline is intact. My hairloss history is about 7 months. I am late 20s. Also What is the ideal times a week you should wash hair for a male who has a desk job from 9-5 and works out 4 days a week. ?
I will appreciate your feedback.

In my opinion, I would hold off on the minoxidil and stick to the Propecia for the first 8 months. If the hair loss is as you have defined, then there is a high possibility that it will reverse because it seems to work best for short term genetic hair loss. If you take other drugs like minoxidil and make too many changes at once, then you will never know which one worked best and you’ll be ‘hooked’ on both of them for years. Play your bet out and try the 8 months of Propecia first.

As for washing your hair, I’ll just quote what I said in an earlier blog entry: “Frequent shampooing does not hurt, but aggressive massaging during shampooing and rough brushing will cause fragile hair to break easily.”

To conclude, yes miniaturization can be reversed. The more advanced the balding you have and the longer time you have had it, the less likely will be reversal of the balding process. But the resuls with Propecia (in particular) have at times been very powerful and I have seen a few men who I would have never guessed would reverse, reverse it nevertheless.

Can Long Term Use of Clobetasol Propionate Foam Cause Hair Loss?

I have been using Clobetasol Propionate foam on my Scalp for Seborrhea for about 10+ years until recently. I liberally applied it to most of the center part of my head. I just recently realized that could be causing my hair to be very thin, breaking off very short. I stopped using this and just use T Gel Shampoo 2 times a week, and the itch seems to be controlled. My question is: will my hair thicken up if I continue to not use the Clobetasol, or did it cause permanent damage? I can tell by the color of my roots that my hair is growing. I should have read the directions and used it very sparingly, but the doctor’s assistant said she uses it and just applies the foam to scalp and rubs it in. So, I didn’t research any further. Will I have any side effects other than thin, damaged hair?

The chronic long-term use of this steroidal medication (Clobetasol Propionate foam) can cause your presenting symptoms.

Can low zinc cause hair loss and low libido?

I wana add zinc. I heard its good for libido. Some people say its good for the hair and i heard from other places its can cause hair shedding.

Yes, if your body is zinc deficient, then it can cause hair loss. I can’t comment on your libido. If you take zinc, make sure that you don’t overdose it.

Can You Make My Hair Less Fine? (Photo)

I have very thin hair from birth and I want thick hair. What can I do about it? (photo)

People are born with fine, medium, and coarse hair. Some people have very fine hair which is probably your case. You can use hair products that force water absorption in the hair shafts to thicken the hair. For example, there are volume-enhancing hair shampoos. These products are available in your local pharmacy.

Can Minoxidil Be Taken Internally?

Dear Dr. Rassman and Medical Staff

I had used minoxidil 5% for 2 years without good result So I switched to Provillus a month ago. Can minoxidil be taken internally? Most of them are sold as topical product. Would Scalpmed work for me? Thank you

Minoxidil was originally an oral preparation for the treatment of high blood pressure. It was unreliable for its intended use, but the observation that some women grew facial hair while taking this caught the attention of the drug company. Good drugs are often discovered this way and through serendipity, the observations are made and new applications evolve. The oral form of the drug is not available nor is it approved by the FDA today.

Provillus and ScalpMed apparently use minoxidil as their active ingredient, and both products have been discussed on this site before.

Can minoxidil cause breathlessness?

Ive been using minox 5% once everyday for about 3 weeks now. Since about 5 days, I am feeling breathless and feel like no matter how much I inhale my lungs never feel full. Can this be caused due to Minox? Please advice! Edit: Iv’e asked my doctor and he says that its not due to minox.

When minoxidil is absorbed into your body through your skin, then it can cause low blood pressure and many of the symptoms that you are talking about. It can also be an anxiety attack. Stop the drug and if they go away, then it may be the drug

Can Miniaturization Reverse on Its Own?

I have thinning and recession at the temples and slight thinning at the crown (22 male). This was confirmed under a digital scope. Is it possibly that this process will naturally stop and not progress much further? My father’s hair thinned in his 20s and receded at the temples but seemed to have halted. Same goes for his father.

When miniaturization is the result of your genetic hair loss, it never reverses on its own.

Can minoxidil induced beard hair be used for hair transplants?

This is my idea!

  1. Use minoxidil for beard growth

  2. Wait till new beard grafts become terminal

  3. Use the grafts for a hair transplant

  4. PROFIT!

The beard makes for good grafts, usually taken from under the chin. Minoxidil induced beard growth is usually not thick and certainly not permanent as they depend upon the drug minoxidil for their existence.
