Can you experience miniaturization without shedding your hair?

My hair stopped shedding about 6 months ago. When I’m in the shower now I get maybe 1-3 hairs on my hands between shampooing and conditioning. However, my hair definitely looks thinner at the crown and temples than it did a year ago.

My question is: Even though I’m not shedding, can the miniaturization process still be occurring and causing me to lose hair?

Here are my stats: -48 years old -noticed thinning at crown about 12 years ago

  • hair is now visibly thin at crown and temples. You can see scalp through the hair.

  • started shedding just over a year ago when urologist prescribed a testosterone booster and an AI. I quit taking them about 11 months in when I noticed shedding (10-12 hairs when I shampoo’d). I quit the meds and shedding stopped 4-5 months later.

  • I eat healthy, take a men’s multi vitamin and shampoo with biotin and nizoral.

  • I haven’t tried finasteride or min yet because I’m scared of the side effects.

Yes, you can experience miniaturization without shedding.

Can you control the DOT size with SMP

The dot size is controlled by the operator (hold time in the skin and how deep they were placed) as well as their skills and the size and needle configuration in the hand piece of the device; however, many of the dots spread because of the size of the pigment particles themselves dictate the spread. The new laser tattoo device has even more precise control over it, if the operator is not as skilled and doesn’t have the years of experience, see here: https://newhair.com/wp-content/uploads/data/docs/pubs/Tattoo%20Pigment%20Delivery%20with%20a%20laser_final.pdf

Can You Explain Hair Loss from Amphetamines?

On a molecular level, how do ampetamines cause hair loss and how can this drug induced hair loss be halted or reversed? Thank you for you time.

I really do not know the answer to your question. My previous posting reflected what is known by the manufacturers of the various amphetamines and from others that have suffered from this hair loss side effect. I am sure that the answer is intricate and related to many other factors in those particular people taking the drug.

Can you get an increased sex drive on finasteride?

I feel like the opposite of the known side effects have happened to me. I’ve been on fin for 70ish days now. Got some minor temple regrowth, so I think its working. No sides except now I’m more horny than usual and can jerk it at least 2x a day when before fin I was usually a 5x a week kinda guy. Anyone experience similar? I can only find online info on decreased libido.

Yes, some people (one of my son’s is on finasteride) had a prolonged increase in his sex drive.

Can You Get More Grafts from Strip or FUE Over a Lifetime?

Many thanks doctors for providing help to all of us!! Your blog is very interesting.

How many grafts it is possible to extract from a caucasian male with an average donor supply over the course of his life? Does it make a difference whether it is a FUE or strip? 9,000?

This is a debate among many hair transplant doctors themselves. In my opinion, you would get the most number of grafts and hairs with the strip procedure over a lifetime to make an overall cosmetic difference. FUE (follicular unit extraction) grafts can sometimes have less hairs per graft than those harvested using the strip method. So over a lifetime FUE grafts may produce less coverage.

For maximum harvest in a theoretical scenario, you would maximize the grafts with the strip then use the FUE method when the donor area is more limited.

Can You Harvest 5000 Grafts At Once? I Just Want One Surgery. Mega Session.

Can You Harvest 5000 Grafts At Once? I Just Want One Surgery. I don’t want to come back for another surgery.

If you are familiar with New Hair Institute and Dr. Rassman’s (founder) work, he is the doctor who started the “Mega-Session” 3000+ grafts hair transplants back in in 1995

Being able to provide a 5000 graft surgery has TWO factors.
1) Man power and the expertise to coordinate such a surgery. * We have this and we have been doing it since 1995
2) Patient’s donor area and scalp laxity has to have the supply. If YOU don’t have (A) high donor density with (B) good scalp laxity no surgeon can harvest 5000 grafts
You must also understand that a high number of graft harvest just means more scalp that needs to be “cut out”. There is no secret magic surgical technique about this fact.
A 5000 graft surgical scar will be FIVE times LONGER than a 1000 graft surgical scar. This means you will have an ear to ear surgical scar. A scar over and past your ears.
As a reference, a typical 2500 graft surgical scar is mostly behind the ear.
Unless your scalp is loose as a Shar Pei Dog, a 5000 graft scar will be past over your ears.

It is my hope you can appreciate the technical aspect of a hair transplant surgery. If you can understand this, you will be a better informed patient to participate in your own surgical planning.

Can You Have Hair Loss After Stopping Propecia For Three Weeks?

I have a question for you.

I’m taking finasteride 1mg now for two years and my hair improved a lot.
Now with exams and very busy schedule I forgot to make an appointment with my docor. I now have one in three weeks. But now i’m afraid i’ll lose my hair again because i’m out of finasteride for three weeks.

Is it possible i can lose a lot of hair in three weeks?

catch up

It is possible that you can lose hair after stopping Propecia for three weeks. It generally takes longer for “catch up” hair loss to occur. Catch up hair loss is basically the loss of your native hair that benefited from the use of Propecia.

Can you photoshop the hair transplant in advance?

I had a hair transplant done a few years back with a top doctor and am happy with the results. That said, I wish the hairline was a bit lower and straighter. I am considering getting another one to fix this.

Right before my first procedure, I met with the doctor briefly to discuss where the hairline was going to be. I was surprised by how un-sophisticated this part was. He just drew a hairline on, showed me a hand mirror, I said lets make it a little lower, and he did and that was it. However, its very hard to imagine what the hair is going to look like and what that hairline really means in terms of how it fits your face and features.

Thus, what I would really like is for some sort of computer simulation of where the hair is going to be and what its going to look like when its grown out, from all angles. Do any practitioners do this? And if not, what is the best way to do this myself, so that I can communication it to the doctor prior to my next procedure?

Some doctors use photoshop or some special software imaging system, but most have stopped because the photoshop illustration did not reflect the final result and it left the doctor with some liability. The reason for this is that if hair is fine, medium or coarse, the hair type makes a world of difference in the hair transplant. The thinnest result of course will occur with fine hair and the best results with coarse hair and the software doesn’t do justice to these distinctions.

An experienced doctor can work the final hairline with you on the day of the surgery. After thousands of these, I have to say that I don’t remember anyone who complained about their final hairline from my work. Experience is the best teacher.
