How Long Is The MPB Process?

How long can MPB take?

My hair kind of leapt into a widow’s peak during 2003/04 and is now considerably thinner than it has ever been in my life. So this is about 5 years maximum – i thought MPB took on average 15 years or more?

What happened?

Once you know you have male pattern baldness (MPB), it remains a progressive process until the day you die, but in reality most people slow down the loss in their late 30s or 40s. There are always exceptions to the rule, but most people are destined to develop a pattern and that pattern is not always a class 6 or 7 pattern (see Norwood Chart below). They may stop at a class 3… but of course, each person is different.

How long should finasteride work, I’m 18?

For how long should a guy under 25 expect fin to work?

Finasteride will work as long as your take it; however, by work I mean slowing the loss down, stopping it or reversing it (usually temporary for months or years).

How Long Should I Wait Before Considering Filling In My Strip Scar with FUE Grafts?

Thanks very much for the informative blog.

Say a strip patient is about 6 months out from FUT surgery and now has buyers regret (please, no reminder about thinking things through first!), and wants to fill in the scar with FUE/beard hair/etc. Is there any advantage to do it at this time or does one need to wait one year. I wonder if scar is more or less vascular when healing. Thanks.

If the donor scar has healed, you don’t need more surgery, and the scar is narrow, then follicular unit extraction (FUE) to the linear scar is possible. FUE does not fill in wide scars well, though. Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP), on the other hand, may be a better approach. Explore it all.

How Long Should The Balding Process Go On For?

Firstly your site has done wonders to increase my knowledge. However, I first noticed losing my hair at the age of 27 in the crown. I am now 37 and the loss has increased dramatically all over, so much so that I am receding into my bald crown. My hair grows unevenly but now only hair on the top grows but at different lengths and rate. My receding hairline is now moving into the middle of my head which is now very thin. Miniturisation is throughout. I thought that this process would have slowed into my late thirties. Should this be the case or is this a very long balding process? In fact it has sped up over the last 18 months, Is this normal? Been on propecia 4 1/2 months with little effect. In my situation will propecia have some impact at all? Thank you very much

First of all, I would expect that you should see slowing of the balding process about now. The full value of Propecia takes a full year or so. We use general rules about balding and although most men slow down their balding process in their 30s, some don’t follow the doctor’s rules. Hair loss is a progressive process in most men, but fortunately it slows down to a ‘crawl’ by the time most men reach their 40s. You should be followed by a good doctor with yearly miniaturization studies. At the least, it will give you a good metric as to how you are doing. Good photography will also help define what is happening to you. You need to have a good dialog with a doctor who can work you through the process you are going through.

How long to get finasteride out of my body?

I took my first 0.25mg of fin yesterday, and today I can’t get an erection. I have no idea if its the compounding fear in the back of my head to check if I have side effects that is preventing my dick to get hard, but I struggle to get “into” porn that would usually get my blood pumping to my member almost immediately. Again, have no idea if its fin or if its in my head, but still I want to wait out the finasteride and see if my dick gets hard again. If it does, then its the fin that caused the ED.

With ED developing in just one day, I suspect you are dealing with a powerful placebo effect, rather than a drug effects; nevertheless, it should be out of your system in less than one month, but I have seen lingering effects last 2-3 months on occasion. I would stop the finasteride.

How Long Should My Hair Be For Miniaturization Mapping?

I shave my head because I’m going bald. I want to get a consultation but I should probably let my hair grow out a little so you can do the miniaturization map right? How long should I go without shaving my head? 2-3 weeks?

A couple of weeks of growth will work. I like to have about 1/4 inch of hair length to make the measurements.

How long to get Finasteride results?

Generally the statement is ok. I see many men immediately stop the loss and have have seen reasonable growth in less than 6 months on some men but I tell everyone to wait 12-18 months to see maximum yield.

How Long Until Finasteride Is Out of My Body If I Want to Start a Family?

I’ve been taking Finasteride 1mg for about 8 years now. I’m looking to start a family and I think I will stop taking the drug for the mean time. How long does it take for finastaride 1mg to leave my body. Thank you

Finasteride is cleared from the blood stream within 24-48 hours (its half life is 4-6 hours) and it is cleared from the body’s tissues within a week. I understand your concern that finasteride might impact the baby in some way, but experience with the drug has not shown birth defects in babies born from men who were actively taking the drug at conception. Significant amounts of finasteride have not been found in a man’s semen.

When asked about this, I often suggest that the men who are concerned should stop the drug about 7 days after the woman’s menstrual period starts and hold off taking it for a total of 10 days In a woman with a normal 28 day menstrual cycle, fertility usually occurs between the 12th and the 16th day.

How Long Until Hair Regrowth with Medications

Hi DR,
i have been through all the entires in the blog and find it quiet useful… here is my problem/question…

I am almost 26 yr old male and experiencing considerable thining. This probably started 7 months ago although it was not that noticeable and there was considerable self denial on my part. My frontal hair are thinning althogh my hairline is maintanied and now even the crown area is thinning considerably. It a very emotional rollercoaster for me and i’m feeling depressed. today I started on propecia and saw palmetto and maybe i ll use nizoral shampoo too. I want to know how long will it take to see a complete stoppage of hairloss and regrowth of new hair ? I may be a BIT late in starting but the thinning started occuring 6 months back and considering that I had a head of full thick hair until october last year… I was in total self denial that my hair was thinnnig. My dermatologist confirned its a case of MPB since my dad started losing his hair in his very late 20s. I am not even married and its very emotionally distressing :(. What are my hopes ?? Also will a sinus surgery(with local IV sedation) cause any further hairloss on me or contibute ?

Please write back. Thanks

With a 7 month history of hair loss, there is sill a possibility of controlled loss or reversal of some or all of the hair loss within the first two years you are on this medication. You must wait this out. I would recommend against taking Saw Palmetto with it, as there may be competition for the DHT enzyme sites between the two medications making the Propecia less effective. Any added stress can impact the rate of hair loss, and sinus surgery is no exception. Still, if you need the sinus surgery, do it and continue to take the Propecia regularly.

Good luck.
