I Turned 27 And I Am Concerned About My Hair Line Because Someone Commented On It

I have just turned 27 and I am concerned about my hairline . I have never really given it much thought but then someone commented on it and I noticed it is a triangle shape. I am concerned that I am going bald but have heard of the term mature hairline. I have drawn in a line to show my highest wrinkle. I am thinking about getting a hair transplant as the hairline looks rather odd. My crown is fine I think ! I have attached photos which may be of use. There are no bald people on either side of my family which is why I find it strange that I could be.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

If you are concerned about your hair line and considering a hair transplant, you should see a hair transplant surgeon. I don’t mean to sound obvious but there is not much I can say here. Balding occurs in the 20s for most men. From your picture there are two things happening: (1) your forelock comes down to the highest crease which indicates it is located where it was when you were 5 years old, and (2) you hairline on the corners is certainly receding upwards giving you a bizarre shape to the hairline that that makes it look pointed. If you transplant the frontal corners, you can move to a different hairline that better fits with your look. You are in your 20’s and that is when such frontal recession appears.

I Tried Rogaine for the Bald Spots I Saw From Extensions, Then Lost More Hair!

I’m a 39 year old woman who started using Rogaine because I had a few bald spots from using hair extensions. I used it for about a week and have been shedding for the last six months. It’s pretty much stopped, but I’ve lost between sixty to seventy percent of my hair.

Will I regrow any of it back? I’m MAYBE having some baby hairs returning up front but I’m not seeing that anywhere else. Is it possible that it wasn’t growing back because it was in shed mode and now that that has stopped maybe there’s hope for regrowth? Thank you for your input!

I’m not sure what you’ve experienced with just a short history. Rogaine is used to grow hair. Some patients have reported initial hair loss in the first month, but those usually grow back within a few months. You can give it about a year to see if the hairs will grow back.

You must also consider there might be other unrelated causes of hair loss that are coinciding with the Rogaine use. Have you seen a doctor about this loss?

I Took Propecia For 3 Days And Have Gynecomastia

I have a question regarding my start with Finasteride. Im a 26 years old Male suffering from mpb. I just started Finasteride 1mg / day 3 Days ago and feel some kind of pain in my right Breast area i didn’t have before. What would you recommend lowering the dosage to 0,5mg or stop the medication at all or try to ride it out with 1mg? Im really afraid that fin won’t work for me because of the very rare side effect of gynecomastia.

I recommend seeing your doctor who prescribed you the medication. Having your doctor examine your breast and having a discussion about side effects associated with the drug.

I suppose anything is possible but some things are improbable. Go see a doctor (in person).

I Urinate Frequently When Taking Propecia

After taking a propecia tablet. I urinate frequently. It seems I can’t control my bladder. This may seem like a strange thing to say but my penis looks smaller. Almost as if it is shrinking. I can’t get erect because I feelnothing. Should I stop propecia?

Let me get this straight:

  1. You cannot control you bladder.
  2. Your penis is shrinking.
  3. You cannot get an erection.
  4. You cannot feel your penis.

I would be at my doctor’s office now if these were my complaints!

If you are noticing increased urinary frequency (polyuria), you may have other serious medical conditions such as diabetes which can also produce neuropathies that can change your feelings from sensory nerves. You should definitely follow-up with your primary care doctor or the doctor who prescribed you the drug Propecia. I have never heard of a shrinking penis caused by Propecia nor any of the other symptoms you mentioned in combination.

The “take home message” is you need to go SEE a medical doctor.

I Used Minoxidil for a Couple Years, But Then Got Severe Dandruff and Hair Loss

I am 25 years old and have used minoxidil for two years but around a year back I got severe hair loss along with dandruff. Now the condition is worse than it was 3 years back, when I had started the treatment.

Hair loss is progressive, so having the loss increase over time is not unusual. Minoxidil doesn’t block the DHT that causes hair loss, and many people get increasing dandruff from its use.

If you decide to stop the medication, you should realize that this could rapidly cause hair loss, as many people build dependencies on this drug when it works well. Have you seen a dermatologist?

I Used Lotion On My Scalp and Hair

Male, age: 27 – question
I naturally have a very high hair line. hair is thin and dirty blonde. it is about 1/2 inch in length now. since its winter, bitter and cold out. after my usual hot shower in the morning before i head off work, giving my head a quick dry from a towel has been leaving my scalp very tight and very itchy in spots throughout the day…so this morning after drying off i got some moisturizing lotion and rubbed it in all over in my scalp and hair, which solved the problem and made it feel at ease…problem was though it made my hair looking greasy…

i was wondering, would cheap over-the-counter creams/lotions cause clogging of hair follicles and scalp pores to hinder hair growth and to perhaps cause scalp pimples?

Creams or lotions can’t stop hair growth just through clogging the pores and hair follicles. You could have or develop an allergy to one of the components of the creams or lotions, and this may cause dermatitis (skin inflammation), which can effect your hair. Dermatitis could present with itching and redness of scalp skin with some swelling and eventually may effect hair growth if not treated promptly. Generally though, what you are doing should not cause you a problem, but be wise and react appropriately if it does cause you a problem.

I Use Rogaine Foam in the Morning and Liquid in the Evening, But See a Lot of Shedding

Hi Dr. Rassman,

Firstly, thank you for your awesome blog, it’s a brilliant resource for hair loss sufferers.

About 2 months ago I started using liquid rogaine in the evening instead of foam (I still use foam in the mornings). I did this because my hair is relatively long and I felt that the foam was just going on my hair rather than my scalp. My hair has been shedding like crazy recently and I’m wondering if this could be due to the switch to liquid in the evenings?

I’m hoping that now more minoxidil is reaching my scalp it’s causing miniaturized hairs to fall out rather than the balding process accelerating. What do you think, could my theory have any credibility?

PS. I have been on proscar split in 1/4s for over a year.

I suppose it’s possible that you could have an allergy to something in the liquid that isn’t in the foam, but the active ingredient in both versions of Rogaine is 5% minoxidil. Some people notice increased shedding in the first couple of months, so continue using it and see what happens over time.

You should be managed by a competent, experienced hair doctor who uses the HairCheck device to accurately measure your hair bulk to see if you are losing hair. Once baseline measurements are made with this instrument, you can repeat it in a year to see what, if anything, changed.

I Want a Hair Transplant, But I Love Cocaine

Hi

I’m thinking of having a hair transplant done but I have a question before I bother to consult with you.

I attend college and with college come wild parties. I spend most of my time studying but I do go to atleast one part per month. I usually like to do cocaine at the party. I do this recreationally and it’s only one time per month at most.

I don’t think I would be able to give up my one party per month for a hair transplant. Is it safe to get a hair transplant if you know you are going to be doing a gram of cocaine every month for the post operative period?

Oh boy. So as a physician, did you expect that I’d be fine with telling you its alright to use cocaine at any point, let alone during your post-op period after a hair transplant procedure?! Come on, now. The obvious answer is to stop using illicit drugs, even if it’s just once a month. Cocaine is not only illegal, but it can also kill you.

I’m not your doctor, but I expect any doctor you talk to will have the same reaction to your question. Now that I’ve given my mini-lecture, here’s a link to another site where another physician has his take.

Doing a hair transplant to treat diffuse thinning in a female of your age is malpractice in my opinion.
