Looks like you are allergic to either the carrier or the minoxidil. If you are using the foam, switch to the liquid or visa versa. If you still see the redness, then the allergy is to the minoxidil, not uncommon.

Your photos show a maturing hairline, not balding. I currently have a full head of hair, but have noticed that my hairline continues to recede into a widow’s peak. I’m becoming increasingly self-conscious of this and recently bought rogaine to see if that will help. Has anyone here used rogaine for a similar problem and did it work? I read the warnings on the Rogaine box and it made me a little hesitant to use the product since my hair loss isn’t on the crown of my head nor do I understand why I’m losing hair (other than the fact that my maternal grandfather was bald).

It looks like you have a maturing hairline developing. I can tell this because the highest crease in your furrowed brow is just one finger breadth above the lowest part of your hairline. It will eventually take on a typical male V-Shape. In the future, you might yet develop frontal recession, but now it does not look like that

The arrows show what are most likely end-stage miniaturized hairs. Vellus hairs are short hairs with small width but these hairs are long. You can ‘see through the forest‘ indicating that this is balding with miniaturization present. A hair transplant can restore the density and the forest will not be so ‘see-through’.

This may not be thinning. If a person with an average hair thickness was to bundle all of the hair (like a pony tail) on the head, it would make a circle about 1/2 inch thick. Now spread that out all over the scalp, and that is the coverage one gets. Short hair, a bright flash and straight hair can make a normal person look like this.
