How Can I Treat Pseudopelade of Brocq? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello – I’m a 38 year old woman. A few years ago I had a couple of bald patches appear on the top of my head, caused by work stress. About 6 months ago they started itching, I went to a dermatologist yesterday who says I have pseudopelade of brocq. Of which there is no cure, I’m told. The patches are about 2cm by 1cm and about 1cm square. I’ve had to move my parting so that I know no one can see it.

Do you know if there is anything I can do to help it? I’ve heard that derma micro needling can help to regrow? What about some form of tattoo? Any help appreciated.

For those unfamiliar with the term “pseudopelade”, here’s the origin from Medscape — “In 1888, Brocq used the term pseudopelade to describe a unique form of cicatricial alopecia resembling alopecia areata (Pelade is the French term for alopecia areata).

In short, it is a scarring type of alopecia without a good medical treatment. Micro needling will not work.

Your last option may be Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP), but that will only color in your scalp. This may work for men who can shave their head to make it look uniform, but for women with any length of their hair surrounding the patches it may not work to maintain a natural appearance. We have treated many scarring alopecia patients with great results using SMP.

Hair Loss InformationI’m Treating HBP and High Cholestoral, But Now I See Female Hair Loss! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I am a 56 years young woman with beautiful silver hair. I began taking Lisinopril 40MG for HBP & Pravastatin 20MG for cholesterol 1 1/2 years ago. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that I’m losing my hair at an alarming rate. I am afraid to comb my hair as I would lose hundreds of strand at each session. I am very concerned that if this continues, I will have lost all my hair within the next two years.

PillsWhile the timing of your hair loss beginning may sync up with the start of your medications, I really cannot say for sure if the two are related. It’s possible that it was coincidental timing, and that there is another underlying issue. A partial list of causes for hair loss in women can be found here.

Pravastatin and lisinopril both list hair loss as a rare side effect, but the most common causes of hair loss in women is genetics or an underlying medical problem (not medication). Please see your doctor for your hair loss if it bothers you.

With respect to losing all of your hair within the next two years, that would be quite uncommon… especially if the loss was from medication.

Hair Loss InformationIn the News – Kim Kardashian’s Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

Kim KardashianShe’s left fans green with envy thanks to her incredible post-pregnancy weight loss.

But it seems that Kim Kardashian’s rush to regain her svelte frame has had an unwanted effect on her hair.

Images of the 33-year-old with her hair tied up in a high bun while out in Los Angeles last week show the extent of what appears to be extreme hair loss, which the reality star seems to have been attempting to cover up with weaves and hair extensions.

It’s possible that the loss is caused by hormone changes following her recent pregnancy, but hair extensions into weakened hair might be doing more harm to her hair. The loss in the photos seems to be closer to traction alopecia that is commonly seen in people with tight braids or weaves.

Hair Loss InformationMy Hair is Already Thin and I Will Soon Have Bariatric Surgery – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

(female)
I have thin hair and soon will have bariatric surgery. I am worried about hair loss. I will follow my doctor to the letter, however is there something else I can do to minimize hair loss?

Block Quote

It seem like you have a conflict in choosing the lesser of two evils — lose weight or lose hair. I do not know the answer to your dilemma.

Bariatric surgery does not necessarily cause hair loss in everyone that has it done, but it is a possibility. I do not know of anything that can minimize that chance, though.

Hair Loss InformationI Was Diagnosed with TB and I’m Pregnant – Why Am I Losing Hair? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I am a very sporty and fit 39 year-old. I never get sick. Less than 1mth ago I was diagnosed with TB as well as being pregnant at the same time (almost 3mths) however before being diagnosed with both ‘conditions’ above I was suffering with very sore joints in mainly the hands and feet , sometimes the knees and back as well. This was over the course of about 2 mths. The joint pains generally got progressively worse and I was tested for all auto-immune related diseases, nothing came up in the blood tests. Then my hair started falling out and it was only a few weeks later that I was diagnosed with TB and was confirmed pregnant.

My question:
Why am i loosing all my hair? I have asked both GP, physician and gynae and neither can give me an answer? Is it a symptom of TB and/or being pregnant or neither? and will it grow back?

Many thanks

Sorry, I do not know why you are losing hair. I cannot diagnose your medical condition over the Internet.

Generally speaking, medical illness and stress can cause hair loss. Sometimes drastic changes in hormones (such as pregnancy, postpartum period, menopause) can cause hair loss in women. In those cases, the hair should grow back with in a year. If it has not grown back within a year then it is likely permanent and there is no specific cure for it.

Hair Loss InformationCould My Hair Loss Be Related to My Face Lift from Years Ago? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

(female)
Hello:

I had a face lift 4 years ago. I lost hair at the incision lines on my scalp and it has not grown back, which I expected. But 5 months ago, my hair began thinning all over my scalp, more so at the top. I have seen a dermatologist who diagnosed this as telogen effluvium

My question is could this be a delayed reaction to the face lift of 4 years ago, and if so, is the hair loss associated with a face left permanent? Why would it take 4 years to thin? My surgery went well, i was happy with the results and there were no complications.

Block Quote

A face lift can cause hair loss around the scar. If no hair has grown back in over a year, then it is likely permanent. I do not know why you are noticing scalp loss after 4 years, but if what you’re experiencing is telogen effluvium, it is unrelated to the face lift. The effluvium does cause overall thinning and this may be causing you to notice the hair loss around the scar that was always present.

Hair Loss InformationI’ve Seen Hair Loss Since Starting Birth Control! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear Doctor,

I am a 22 year old female who just started birth control four months ago. For the past month or so, I’ve been noticing hair loss, which I think I’ve identified as telogen effluvium. At first I didn’t worry too much about it, but I’ve become increasingly worried as I see more and more of my hair fall out and more and more of my scalp. The shedding seems to be diffuse, and I’m starting to see a few short hairs come in along my scalpline, but I’m still worried because I’m not sure the shedding is completely going away. I’ve been continuing with the same birth control pill, but I’m wondering if I should discontinue the pill. I don’t want to do any more damage to my hair than the pill has already done, and although I know this might be a long process, I’d like to do all I can to help it.

I saw my gynocologist, and she didn’t seem concerned at all about the hair loss. Do you think I should see a dermatologist or will this clear up by itself with time? Most of all I want to know if I should go off the medication or not. At 22 I want to make sure I get my hair back!

Thank you very much

The decision to go off or even start any medication should be made by you and your doctor (not over the internet). I have not examined you, but I will take your word that you are losing hair. While it is possible that your birth control is causing or contributing to the loss, you don’t know for sure if it is actually related. It seems that you have self-diagnosed telogen effluvium, but it would be in your best interest to establish or confirm this diagnosis before considering a treatment plan.

In general, telogen effluvium can cause hair loss for several weeks to months before it stops and there is no medication or products you can use to speed this along. If it is telogen effluvium, your hair will grow back and it can take well over a year for this to happen. But at this point you are speculating, so I would suggest meeting with another doctor to have a diagnosis confirmed.

Hair Loss InformationI Was Diagnosed with Female Pattern Baldness, But Could It Also Be From Tight Rollers? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I have noticed dramatic hair loss in the last 6 months bang area. I went from having long thick bangs to short hairs and visible scalp. I went to a hair loss doctor and he said I have female pattern baldness. I believe this is the core problem-but could it also be that I am continuing to brush vigorously with a brush dryer and using tight rollers when hair is wet. Will the hair re-grow now that I have stopped doing this?

Block Quote

Tight rollers or pulling or brushing your hair vigorously can cause hair loss that may be permanent. The only way to tell if your hair will grow back is to wait it out. It may take about one year for you to see regrowth. If you do not see regrowth after a year then it is likely permanent.

If you were diagnosed with female pattern hair loss, it is possible that you have a combination of genetics and traction alopecia from the pulling… but I have no way to know that for certain.

Hair Loss InformationIs My Recent Hair Loss Due to Wearing a Head Scarf or the Hot Weather? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I’m 20 years old and female. At the age of 19 I moved from the UK to Egypt and have since been losing a lot of hair. Literally handfuls come out when I wash my hair and a hairbrush full after washing. Really depressing me because I’ve always had long thick hair. I’m not sure if its because i have also recently started wearing a headscarf and regularly wear my hair up now. Could that be a cause for this? or the hot weather??

is there any supplements i could be taking to help stop this? i also have a very healthy diet so I’m almost sure its not the reason… but maybe there are special foods that i could be eating?? any help would be greatly appreciated

Block Quote

Wearing a non-rubbing scarf will not cause hair loss, nor will hot weather.

You need to be examined by a good doctor to determine why you are losing hair. I can not tell you based upon your question and the information you supplied here. Sorry, but I can’t provide the reassurance you’re looking for. I try to stay factual and always endorse a good physical (face to face) examination with a doctor.

I don’t know what supplements you may need, as I don’t know if you’re deficient in anything. There are many possible causes for female hair loss, some of which I have mentioned here.

Hair Loss InformationI’m Scared to Have a Baby Because My Hair Is Already Very Fine and See-Through – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,

I am a 26 year old female with (what I consider) very fine see- through hair on the crown and top of my head- more noticeable on the crown. The first time I noticed this was when I was 20 years of age after I changed where I part my hair. I don’t know if I had been hiding it for years prior to this with the way my hair had been parted? As far as I can tell it hasn’t gotten any worse since I noticed it 6 years ago. It makes me so so paranoid as I think everyone can see it. My hair below my crown is normal.

I am so afraid that I will lose all my hair soon. I am particularly petrified of having a baby (which I would love one day) as they say after you have a baby your hair will fall out which I just couldn’t cope with that.

I get highlights done every couple of months which definitely helps with disguising the thinning parts as when they grow out it is more visible. I don’t know what answers I am looking for by telling you all this?.. I think I just want someone to tell me that my hair will grow back one day and that I won’t loose anymore! Am I dreaming?……. I would also love to hear from someone of similar age who is/ has gone through the same thing with any advice.

Thank you for taking the tome to read my entry,
A very self conscious, thick hair envious female!

You need a diagnosis made as to what is causing your thinning hair. Sometimes we can identify a curable situation, but unless you see an expert in the field, you will not know what it is or what can be done.

If having a baby is important to you at some point in your future, you should settle the hair issue before that time comes. More importantly, having a baby does not automatically mean you will lose hair. I realize some women may notice hair loss, but MOST women do not have any hair loss issues with pregnancy or child birth.
