Hair Loss InformationIf My Dermatitis is Active, Can I Still Get a Hair Transplant? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

(female)
Does contact dermatitis affect my chances of having hair implanted. Over the past two years, my dermatitis has caused my hair to fall out and I want to get implant hair. Can I? That’s the question. Please let me know.

Thank you.

At NHI, we have performed surgery on many patients with dermatitis or even psoriasis. Each and every patient is different and if you are interested in surgery, you need to be evaluated by a competent hair transplant surgeon.

There are cautions with regard to the pretreatment of active areas of local dermatitis or psoriasis for example, as complications do occur with such findings as a Koebner phenomenon in the areas where incisions are made in active areas of psoriasis or dermatitis.

Hashimoto’s Disease and Female Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

my daughter was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 1998. she has been suffering hair loss since then and it is now quite serious. She went to a dermatologist who told her that her hair loss was genetic and unrelated to the Hashimotos. That is hard for me to believe. She is very resistant to getting further help so I don’t know what to do to do and where to send her. She is at Stanford and there is a Dermatology Clinic with a specialty in hair loss but I keep thinking the problem is the autoimmune disease. Can you give me some advise about what to do.

While having a diagnosis certainly helps with finding a treatment, for women’s hair loss there is no definitive treatment. If you treat the thyroid disease the thinning may slow down, but it is unlikely that after treatment the loss will reverse. I have never seen it revert back to the original fullness. Even for genetic women’s hair loss (just like men’s genetic hair loss) there is no cure. If the hair loss issue is from an autoimmune disease, there is really no cure either and many doctors are suggesting that genetic hair loss may actually be an autoimmune process, not uniquely genetic alone.

At best, you can treat the Hashimoto’s disease and the hair loss may slow down. I am sorry for the bluntness, but at this time there is no medical cure for genetic hair loss in men or women… and unfortunately, we seem to know far less about treating female hair loss than we do with male hair loss.

My Daughter’s Hair is Processed and There Are Bald Spots – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

13 year old african american daughter having continuous hair loss for several years. Hair is processed and has several bald spots especially in back. Suffers from excema if that helps. Please HELP! Beautician just sews false hair in her head but has yet to get it to grow. Can you please tell us where to start.

It sounds like your daughter is having chemical problems with the things that the stylist is using. Hair loss is common when chemicals are applied to relax the hair. I am wondering what you mean that the beautician is sewing false hair into her head, though.

Should I Cut My Hair Shorter to Reduce the Weight? – Balding Blog

(female)
I am 53 years old and wear my hair in natural locks. I have thinning hair in the crown an front hair line due to medication. Also the new growth is much softer than my natural texture. I understand that the hair should begin to regrow when treatment ends in a few months. Should I cut my locks shorter (currently shoulder length) to reduce the weight or cut them off and start over after treatment?

The weight of your hair shouldn’t have anything to do with its growth or loss, though if you cut your hair shorter you do reduce the risk of damage to weaker hairs you might have. If you would like to cut your hair to match a certain style or achieve a better look then by all means…

I Chemically Relax My Own Hair and See Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello. I am a 42 year old black female that is experiencing hair loss. I am wondering if this is due to me chemically relaxing my hair myself. I do have a low thyroid condition that I take medication for daily. Could this be contributing to my hair loss. It seems to be getting worse. I recently permed my hair but I burned my scalp pretty bad. Will my hair grow back? Could you give me any suggestions of products to use that might help? Thank you

Chemical damage and thyroid conditions can both contribute to hair loss, and there’s no way for me to try to pinpoint the cause via email. Try stopping the chemical use on your hair and give it a year or so to see if there is improvement. The hair could regrow, but it depends on the severity of the burn. At this point, all you can really do is wait it out to see.

Can a Teen Girl Have Her Hairline Altered with Adult Consent? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,
I’m a sixteen year old female with a large forehead and in addition to this, a very distinguished widows peak. My forehead is extremely unattractive and has caused me to become overly self-concious. I would like to at least have my hairline altered so that I don’t have such a pronounced widows peak. I have recently been looking into hair transplants and would like to know if with my guardians consent, am I able to get this treatment? Also any other advice on my situation would be appreciated.

Any medical procedures or treatments on a minor can only be performed with their guardian’s consent. Hairline lowering surgeries for women with high foreheads are an option, but it is on an individual case-by-case basis with full understanding of risks and benefits.

Female Hair Loss After Using More Minoxidil Than Recommended – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

does the application of minoxidil topical solution for more than 2 ml i.e 4 ml for 15 days increases severe hair fall?

i have been applying this solution for about 15 days now ..and few days back i noticed that i have been applying the solution more than its prescribed. its been 3 days am experiencing an excessive hair fall like never before. is it a reaction? should i discontinue using this solution or should i continue to apply it with the prescribed amount?

please answer the question as soon as possible because i don’t wanna turn bald due to any of my stupidity. my age is 19 ,female

Minoxidil can cause shedding in some people in the early stages of use. This is usually temporary, and it is assumed that it is speeding up the hair cycling. I can’t tell you if it’s something you should or shouldn’t use, but if you’re concerned that it’ll make your hair worse you can stop treatment.

Also, you should use the recommended dosage of 1ml twice daily. Hopefully that’ll correct the problem if you continue to use the medication, but I have no way to assure that.

Woman Lost All Her Arm Hair – Balding Blog

Recently I have lost all the hair on my arms, also a scar disappeared on my arm. I’ve never had hair on my legs, but being a female… Also, I lost weight, and I’ve gained a lot of veins on my hands, and arms. I don’t know what to do.

If you have any idea as to what is going on, I would sincerely appreciate your time and effort.

Thank you.

I don’t know anything about your history, age, etc, so there’s not much I can offer. You would need to be examined by a physician. Hormone changes and weight loss do strange things to a woman’s hair distribution.

Hair Loss InformationIn the News – Divorce and Female Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

As if the heartache of divorce wasn’t hardship enough, it appears that women enduring marital break-up may also have to deal with hair loss.

New research reveals that, genetics aside, the next strongest predictor of midline (central) hair loss among women is their marital status, with the loss of a spouse (through either divorce or death) raising the risk for thinning hair above that of married or single women.

The study looked at sets of identical twins and determined that excessive alcohol and smoking increased the risk, in both men and women. The study also revealed that sun exposure is also believed to be a factor in hair loss, as those exercising outdoors or didn’t regularly wear hats (sun protection) saw increased thinning. One of the keys the article focuses on is divorce, which can bring about a lot of stress… and it isn’t surprising that stress can lead to hair loss. Overall, it’s interesting stuff and worth a read.
