I Currently Have No Signs of Hair Loss, But Will I Go Bald at Some Point? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,

I am a man in my mid 30s and currently have no signs of hair loss. Recently however, I have developed a fear of going bald. My Dad has a full head of hair at 60 and his Dad had a full head of hair til his death at 61. However, my Mother’s Dad went bald from his early 40s and my Dad’s brother started going bald in his early 30s. I need to know – will I go bald?

Look for any advice you can give. Thank you!

I have no way to know if you will go bald. I also have no way to know if you will develop heart disease, or if you will get audited by the IRS. Determining who will go bald is not as simple as just looking at the age of when your father, grandfather, or uncle went bald. Hair loss can skip generations.

You can find out if you have any signs of balding by having your hair bulk analyzed. Since you’re in your mid-30s, if the test does not show balding, then you are probably in the ~90% probability of not developing balding. For most men that have genetic hair loss, the balding process starts in their 20s.

At this point though, there is really no way for me to tell you for sure if you will go bald, if you will start thinning, or if you will have no loss at all.

Is There a Typical Hair Transplant Procedure Limit? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

i’d like to know the possibility of having a transplant if i’m Norwood 6. I’m 21, had a transplant when i was 19 for the hair line of 2000 grafts but my main problem was density all over. i think i have good density. i opted for a hair piece which i’m really satisfied with it, but i know it has a short timeline so i’m considering a transplant again

so my question is.. how many procedures one can have if he is TYPICAL norwood 6?

Block Quote

You may have serious problems if you had a 2000 graft transplant at the age of 19. I generally look at 19 years old (or even 21 in your case) as a person who is not a candidate for a hair transplant. You need a Master Plan by a competent and caring doctor. The doctor you had is suspicious if he is doing 2000 graft cases on 19 year olds. I would guess that the surgery did not work well, so the hair piece addressed that issue.

Your question on how many transplant procedures are needed for a Class 6 balding pattern does not reflect an understanding of supply and demand (please read this post).

14 Year Old Wonders Why His Hair is Falling Out – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I’m a male. I just turned fourteen a week ago. I stay up late about to 4 in the morning and wake up at about 12 or 1 in the afternoon. I sometimes eat lunch, and eat dinner. Have a habit of eating things found in the kitchen at random times. I exercise about everyday for the past month (going outside and start punching the boxing bag for about an hour). I take long 1 hour showers in warm/hot water. I play with my hair for about 5 minutes and then stop for about 3 minutes and play with it again. I wash my hair on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

I also have these kind of bumps on my head, I couldn’t see most of them, but the ones I did see were dark brown/black. So here is my question, why is my hair falling out and what do i need to do to make my hair stop falling out?

Get a parent involved, see a good doctor for an examination and a hair bulk measurement, and then listen to what the doctor tells you. I have no way to know what your hair loss is (genetic? stress? allergy?) and so I can’t tell you what it would take to treat it.

Your trips to the kitchen and odd sleeping hours don’t sound too different from many teens. I would have your doctor look at those scalp bumps, though.

What Can I Do About Poor Hair Growth of My 7 Month Old Son? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I want to ask about the baby’s hair. I had a baby boy, his hair slightly at birth, even in the crown of the region virtually no hair or bald. But I put aloe vera on a regular basis to grow hair on the crown. But overall not too much hair.

My baby boy is now seven months old and has never cut his hair. I want to ask is, whether the baby’s hair will grow thicker if shaved off? And what if the hair was shaved off, whether the hair would grow up to be more violent?

Block Quote

Shaving the head does not make hair grow faster, so do not do that. Also, aloe vera isn’t going to grow his hair.

The hair will change over the next year or so. I would not worry about it, as some babies look bald and some are very hairy. By 18 months, you should see a full head of hair on your son. Baby hair is very fine and will not develop its normal thickness for some years.

People Guessed I Was 20 Years Younger After I Had SMP Done – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

A 55 year old male patient had a complete Scalp MicroPigmentation of the scalp done. He has changed his hairstyle from long hair with a balding pattern to a shaved head.

He sent me this short email that I wanted to share:

About a week after my procedure, I was at a party where I met a number of guys that I didn’t know. Sometime later in the evening, the topic of conversation shifted to age, and we did the “guess my age” bit. Guesses of those who were in the 50 year old range were pegged between 45-60. When it came to me, they all guessed I was in my mid 30s! Totally made my day.

Awesome! I’m glad your day was made and I’m pleased that you’re enjoying your new look.

My Hair Never Regrew After I Had Surgery at 2 Weeks Old – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi, I am a 21 year old black female. When I was maybe 2weeks old I had surgery on my eyes and the doctor cut my hair on the sides to put an IV in. My hair never fully grew back. Their is a very little amount of hair on each side. I haven’t tried any meds or talk to any doctors yet. Will this ever grow completely?

Block Quote

With my inability to examine you, there is little I could say about the diagnosis. Generally, you can wait up to one year to see if hairs from trauma or surgery scar will ever grow back. In your case, it has been 21 years… so it would be highly unlikely for it to regrow now.

In the News – Child With Alopecia Sent Home from School – BaldingBlog – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

A Philadelphia boy with a chronic balding illness was sent home by his school for having too much hair.

Eight-year-old Zion Williams has been receiving medical treatment for the illness called alopecia at Drexel University which includes painful injections to the scalp. Doctors at the Philadelphia university’s medical program told Williams’ mother Talia Mann to let his hair grow for at least ten weeks.

Last Wednesday, Williams was turned away from the Shiloh Christian Academy in Philadelphia for violating the school’s mandatory short hair policy. Mann said she even filed a doctor’s note with the school to allow her son to attend with slightly lengthened hair.

I suspect that this young boy has alopecia areata (an inherited autoimmune disease). The simplest solution to me would be to waive their short hair requirement for a few months so that it would not impact his treatment, but it seems that the school was inflexible in its policies and victimized this boy.

My Hair Loss Started at 14 Years Old! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I grabbed this from a comment left on another post on BaldingBlog…

I know how you feel I’ve been losing my hair since i was 14 as well, now at 18 I’m almost completely bald. I started using rogain when i was 15 and saw great results within the first 6 months and most of my hairline had grown back but all out sudden it fell and my hairline receded back to where it was previously. Now at 18 I’ve been on propecia for 7 months and have seen no results by itself but hopefully now that I’ve added rogaine the last couple weeks I will see better results.

Anyways I hope you have better luck then me because i know how it feels to lose hair at such a young age which complete destroyed my high school experience. Visit your doctor before its too late.

Rogaine (minoxidil) is not effective a thwarting genetic balding when it is aggressive, particularly in someone as young as 14 years old. Finasteride (Propecia) may have been a better choice when you were 14, though on a counter note, finasteride can also have an impact in growth potential of young men going through puberty. So each and every case is different and the doctor treating the patient needs to exercise good clinical judgement when recommending treatment with risks and benefits in mind.

What Can I Do at 16 Years Old If I’ve Been Receding for 2-3 Years Already? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I’m 16 years old and I’ve been receding for about 2-3 years now. But last year I started thinning and it got worse over time. I’ve been currently using Kevis 8 for about 2 months and was wondering if this doesn’t work for me then what are my options at such a young age? And I also have carry the genetic hair loss gene as well.

Block Quote

Genetic hair loss for men can start with puberty. If you started losing hair at 13 or 14 years old, that is rather young, but it isn’t impossible (as you can attest). If what you’re seeing is male pattern baldness, then unfortunately, it is the genetic hand you were dealt. But are you sure it is actual genetic loss and not some other factors?

There are medications such as Rogaine and Propecia that treat hair loss, but you would need to be seen by a doctor with the permission of your parent/guardian for a diagnosis and a possible treatment plan. At 16 years old, you are likely not a candidate for Propecia yet, as it is theoretically possible that it could stunt growth for those young men still going through puberty.

In general, herbal products, magic lotions, and special shampoos do not work. It is a buyer beware market.

I Just Turned 21 and I Think My Crown Is Thinning! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I just turned 21 male in February, I was not really paying attention to my hair until just few weeks ago I noticed a big scalp showing in my crown area and hair is also thinning in that area. My dad is also bald but he started loosing hair when he was 30.

I am now using Regenepure Dr. I heard a good thing about this shampoo. Also should i start to use Rogaine Foam?

Thank you

The only 2 medications that I recommend are the FDA approved hair loss treatments Propecia (finasteride) and Rogaine (minoxidil). If you’ve got early crown hair loss, Propecia is the better treatment… but you should speak to your doctor about this. Figure out what it is you’re seeing in the crown by having an examination with a doctor.

If what you’re seeing is early genetic hair loss, Propecia should halt the loss and possibly regrow the hair. If you’re not seeing genetic loss, this isn’t the medication for you. Minoxidil does work in the crown, but it doesn’t stop the loss and the hairs that regrow tend to be finer.

RegenePure DR is a shampoo with ketoconazole as an active ingredient. Some claim ketoconazole works well as a hair loss treatment, but it is a better antifungal and dandruff treatment. Ketoconazole shampoo is better known as Nizoral, and I’ve written about ketoconazole before here.
