Ervamatin, Revisited – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dear Sir,
Ive been doing a product research on Ervamatin as a hair growth formula. I suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome due to which I have developed male balding patterns. Are you still wary of Ervamatin as a drug? I noticed your caution in a previous answer to a user. Please advise.

Thanks and regards

As I’ve stated before, Ervamatin is a herb. And as I have stated repeatedly with all herbal/natural products, it is a “buyer beware” market and it is up to you, the consumer, to do your research and make an informed decision. If you are looking for a medical endorsement, I do not endorse any such products.

13 Year Old Panics About Hair Loss! – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am a 13 year old girl and have a perm from curly to straight and it would be very nice of you if you would pleeeease help me. I went on a winter vacation with my family for 3 days and the second day I went to the pool with out a cap. After a while I went up to my hotel room by myself and blow dried my hair. After the vacation was over I went home to wash the chlorine out of my hair with V05 conditioner and shampoo. After I washed it, I blow dried my hair some more.

Now, every time I comb my hair a whole chunk of hair comes out of the back of my head. This has been happening every single day for 3 weeks. I only noticed when my hair dresser told me it looked like a short boys hair cut. I started to cry for weeks. I did not want to go out in public, especially to school where my friends had better looking hair than I did. I felt jealous and lonely because a few of them had longer hair than me and it was straight without a perm. I don’t really want to show my natural hair because it’s crazy looking so if you would pleeeeease help to grow it back faster i’ll feel much better again and take better care of it. Thank you so much.

I know it feels horrible when you think your hair is a mess, but the only thing you should do at this point is wait it out and keep from perming your hair until it all grows back. Hair grows at 1/2 inch per month so it will grow back in time.

I’m a Female with Thinning Hair – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Dr Rassman,

I am a 27 year old female. Just under 2 years ago I began to notice my hair was quickly becoming thinner and thinner and stacks of it fall out each day. I have not counted exactly how much hair falls out, I just measure more by the thickness and amount left on my head and also the density on my scalp. I am about 1/4 Lebanese on my dads side but his sister has lots of hair and she’s 60. The men in my family still have full heads of thick hair, and most of my female relatives do too, although my mum and grandmother have had hair thinning, but after menopause, some stress and in my grandmother’s case, after prednisone.

My hair is sort of wavy/messy curly and I used to have very thick hair up until the last few years. I have many health concerns at the moment, but I’m pretty sure I have been tested for things like thyroid function, lupus and hormone levels. I have been on and off medicines such as the pill, some antidepressants, epilum and zyprexa, but even after being off all medications for a couple of months, my hair continues to fall out. I do not brush it very much, but I am not concerned that the loss from brushing is a build up over days, I also do not blow dry, straighten and colour my hair more than a few times a year. I even tried laureth sulfate free shampoos which seemed to possibly slow down the loss for a couple of weeks, before it resumed again, but its hard to tell. Do you know of anywhere in Sydney or Canberra Australia that does this miniaturization testing you speak about?

Are there any other causes you know of, or things I can do to help this problem? I am pretty young to be on Rogain or permanent medicine.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated, as I am frustrated and concerned by the hair loss and the lack of answers.
Thanks.

You clearly need a good doctor to take charge of your complex situation. See ISHRS.org for a doctor in your area. There are a number of good doctors in Sydney and throughout Australia.

Hair in a Bun Causing Female Hair Loss? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

(female) i am 31 years old and have been wearing my hair up in buns and ponytails since i was young. i noticed that i started to get patches at the sides of my head and at the base of my neck. this has been going on in between 5 to 10 years. i have now stopped wearing my hair up but am worried that i have caused permanent damage. i still have strands of hair within the patches, and it does not look no where near as bad as some of the pictures i have seen, will my hair grow back or has it gone to far.

You may be experiencing traction alopecia from the constant pull on your hair. This may be permanent depending on the degree and length of the insult to your hair. Only time will tell if your hair will grow back. It may take up to a year. In the mean time, I would advise you to not wear your hair in a bun if you feel it has caused you to lose hair. If the hair has not returned after 1 year, you may have permanent hair loss in the areas of your concern.

Hair Loss InformationFemale Hair Loss While Trying to Conceive – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I’m 32 yo woman trying to conceive. What options are open to me in stopping hair loss and stimulating regrowth? My dermatologist tells me its hereditary and I’m out of luck until birth. Any suggestions?

The only medical option is Rogaine. If it is hereditary or genetic, there is not much you can do. Any medication is dangerous for a new fetus and it is not something I would recommend until you deliver your baby (a long waiting period, I know).

Hair Loss InformationFemale Hair Loss After Surgery – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I recently had surgery and after that noticed a lot of hair loss. Would the surgery and medication for being ‘put under’ have an effect on this. I’m also in my first year of menopause and do not take medication for it at this time. I’ve always had thick hair. Pleae help. Thank you.

Stress from surgery and medications can be a precipitator for hair loss in those who are impacted with a genetic predisposition to balding. To add to the insult, menopause can also cause hair loss in that subset of the population. Unfortunately, once it starts, it may be difficult to stop and there is no acceptable cure. At the least you should see a doctor to find out if there is an underlying medication condition for your hair loss that may be treatable (such as anemia, thyroid conditions, etc).

Woman Growing Facial Hair from Rogaine – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am (female) developing face hair ever since I started Rogaine. I believe that the Rogaine is helping. What can I do?

I have seen many women who report this. Usually, the hair is a fine, baby hair. You can bleach it or shave it off. Shaving will not make the facial hair thick, so I would not worry about that.

Hair Thinning Where Hair Extensions Are – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,
I have been wearing hair extentsions for 3 years now. The areas in which I have been wearing them seem to be thinning. I was wondering if the hair will grow back. Also, my scalp is itchy and burning in these areas. Sometimes it’s even painful. Should I go see a dermatologist?

The hair extensions were clip in so are they safe? I thought clip in extensions were safe and wouldn’t damage my hair.

Block Quote

If your skin/scalp is irritated and ‘itchy”, you should see a doctor. Hair loss from hair extension is relatively common and is called traction alopecia. Most of the time if the insult has been ongoing, the hair may not grow back. Anything that pulls on the hair, even clip-ons, can cause traction alopecia. If you are now seeing thinning, then it is safe to assume that you are losing hair from the hair extensions. Best to stop using them now.

Woman with Head and Chest Pain, Losing Hair – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am 47 year old female.

February of 2006 I was hospitalized for 12 days. I had double pneumonia and I was also diagnosed with TB and was put on medication. The medication ended in May of 2006 because numerous tests began saying that the TB was negative.

There was a small lesion in my upper right chest that created bad burning and hurting sensation which that feeling has spread throughout my entire chest.

I use to have full “a head of hair” and now I have barely any left. Since February of last year, I can barely brush my hair without the pain being almost unbearable. On a breezy day, my hair rips right out of my head. It is now April of 2007. I have several bumps at the top/back of my head in addition to weird looking brown marks on my scalp. I can’t scratch my head because more hair falls out.

I was using Nioxin since last 2006 and changed to Bee Propolus and now using Arbon organic products. Nothing is bringing my hair back. My head continues to hurt ALL OVER and my chest hurts and burns still. All of this is WORSE than last month.

Do you know what this is? The doctors in southern California appear to NOT know what to do in my situation.

Can you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me?

Thank you

There is not substitute for a good doctor’s analysis who knows about hair loss. If you lost most of your hair, you probably have some medical condition causing it. I can not diagnose you over the internet. What you are describing sounds complex, at the least.
